Tried this place for the first time recently and I definitely like the Subway/Chipotle aspect of being able to choose your toppings! I got a chicken bowl and was able to load it up with several toppings. I ordered a lamb and beef gyro for my husband. A warning to olive haters, they put tomatoes, onions, and olives as their standard gyro toppings. I also ordered some chicken kabob sides to take home to the kids. That took a while to cook up, and then it was a little disappointing that they didn't come on skewers. Bolingbrook has other Mediterranean/Greek options, but this might be my new favorite. Knocking down a star because I had received 3 mail coupons that were probably outdated, but just said expiring within 30 days with no actual date. From a marketing perspective, I would recommend including a date on these. Today, I stopped by with my team for lunch and were surprised by..........how long it took to order with one person in front of us?? The staff apologized by indicating that they were short on supplies and out of many things including their house sauce, Covo. Hmm, isnt the name of the restaurant Covo??? Anyways, I asked what was the best day to come here and they indicated that they seem to be short of supplies EVERY DAY! It seems like the process for ordering and executing here is too long. The dining area is another story. We had to ask for utensils as the station in the dining area was missing utensils, sauces, napkins, straws, etc. The fountain pop machine had a couple of sodas empty of syrup. I'm wondering if there was any training done here???? It's too bad that this place is executing so bad since the food is actually pretty good. HERMES' PLIGHT When it comes to the gyros race, Covo lingers in the middle of the pack. This Greek fast-casual restaurant in Bolingbrook sits on the northeast corner of Boughton & Weber Rd, next to Dickey's BBQ Pit. This is 1 of 3 places along a stretch of Weber offering gyros and other Mediterranean dishes (Fill-A-Pita & Pita Zone are the others). Covo is basically a Greek Chipotle. You pick a bowl, pita, salad, or platter followed by your choice of protein, toppings, and a sauce. Pitas are $8 on Mondays (normally $11) and bowls are $8 on Tuesday (normally $12), so you can save a few bucks by taking advantage of these daily deals. In the past, Covo had spicy pork and döner kebab as choices for meat, but on this last visit they only offered chicken and regular gyros. Their condiments are tasty, especially the Mediterranean sauce which I can best describe as a Grecian salsa verde. The tzatziki is good, too. Covo's Greek fries ($4.50) come with crumbled feta cheese and lemon wedges. We've tried the spanakopita ($5.75 for a side order), avgolemano (chicken rice soup, $2.95), and rizogalo (ride pudding, $3.25), all of which tasted fine. On a recent carryout order, there was a considerable amount of uncooked rice in my gyro bowl which was an unpleasant surprise to say the least (this exact thing happened to me at a Chipotle in Melrose Park, and I never went back). The quality of the gyro meat was a bit iffy, as well. Not Covo's finest hour. The service can sometimes be slow, emotionless, or both. The same guy who took my order, put together the food, and rang me up was clearly going through the motions. He hardly said a word; after paying, the only thing I could elicit out of him was a grunt. * TL;DR * We were impressed on our first visit to Covo, but our satisfaction has waned every visit since. Prices are fair, not much different than elsewhere. I like that they offer a wide variety of sides, but the uncooked rice in my last order was a major turn-off. All things being equal, I'd just as soon grab a gyros + fries from Mickey's on Rt 53 (also in Bolingbrook). You could do better, you could do worse. read more

I couldn't taste the meat so if I ever ordered that again, I would tell them the hold back the sauce the restaurant was dirty. The tables had been wiped, and you can still see streaks on all of them. We stopped at Covo over the weekend for a carry out dinner after a matinee. Upon arrival, there was a family of four in front of us placing an order and no one else in the restaurant. Tables were empty. My husband and I each ordered a pita with different proteins, he had beef and I had chicken. My husband really wanted the spicy pork, but it wasn't offered any longer. The amount of food they give you is plentiful. The pita was large. That's a positive. I also ordered the Greek potatoes, which I love. The family in front of us ordered a huge takeout order and upon checking out, our three containers were put into their bags. Luckily, my husband saw that and spoke up. The young gentleman took out our containers and put them to the side. He was doing so many things at once that he was distracted, and I had to ask him twice for a bag to put my containers in. When we finally paid for our order, we did get a 15% discount that the young man gave us which was very nice. Another positive. When we got home, my husband's order was wrong. They gave us a wrong container. Yes, it was a pita with beef, but the toppings were completely different than what my husband ordered. The young gentleman obviously pulled out the wrong container from the customer in front of us. He was unhappy with that. Both my husband and I started eating our dinners when we returned home and found them extremely salty. We both threw them away about a third or halfway through. I thought the potatoes would be a saving grace, but they weren't even roasted with any color on them, no browning from roasting. The potatoes were also hard, not tender, and totally lacked the lemon flavor that Greek potatoes are known for. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. My first review for this Greek fast-food restaurant was five stars and we even catered their food for a party because we liked it so much, but because the quality of the food and service has gone downhill with each visit so has my rating. Got an intriguing taste for Greek street food? I'll tell you no more, do not go to this place. Horrible in every way. Does not taste authentic and wasn't prepared for business. Craved for this from another Greek establishment didn't have it. Asked for that didn't have it. Too watery with the amount of sauce on top. Greasy, untasty and you're bound to sit on the toilet a few times afterwards. So for the courageous at heart and stomach please get home asap or the Target within the same plaza to clean out your intestinal tract. Not one person in restaurant when we were there. Maybe it's my fault, the four people in front of me ordered chicken and I picked the steak. I got the pita special ($2.00 off on Mondays) and that paid for the up-charge for steak. Generous portion and lots of topping options but I just didn't like the seasonings on the steak. Could be just preference but I just did not enjoy it. We love this place because they offer food you just cannot find anywhere else in our area, so I hope they stay open for a long time. I do want to ask management to please bring back the sun-dried tomatoes!!! I love adding these to my meal and was so disappointed when I was told they no longer offer them. Covo is a great place to go, especially if you aren't trying to eat empty calories from say, a neighboring restaurant. They are chipotle-style greek food, with options of Bowls, Pitas, etc. I've only ordered their chicken, but I can say, its the bomb-dot-com. Its super tasty. Top your bowl or pita with over 15 topping, including but not limited to: rice, mixed peppers, giardenra, black olives, red onions, juicy tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, chickpeas, banana peppers, spinach, the list goes on and on. From the sauces/dressings available, I recommend the Covo Sauce and the Spicy Cilantro. The Covo Sauce is like a roasted-red pepper sauce. The spicy cilantro is mild. They jam pack your carry-out tray, so make sure to get all the healthy eats. For about $9.60 (w/ tax), I cannot complain about the portion size. The bowls can be finished it in one sitting or split it into 2 meals. The pita is also pretty good, but it can be messy with the dressing and how quickly the wrap it. read more

Definitely owners not paying attention to the place and service. Restrooms and sitting area were very dirty. I couldn't see the kitchen, but my guess is that is not clean enough. The soda dispenser was broken, so we had to order can drinks and pay for bottle waters. We ordered from Covo for the first time and it took over 2 hours for us to get our food. When I called and they explained that they were running behind. No one called me to let me know. Our bill was $76.00 for 2 sandwiches, a plate, a bowl, 6 totally stale falafel balls +$5.00 delivery charge. When the food came everything was cold. It literally sat for 2 hours. The bowl I ordered had salad and the lettuce was completely wilted and "cooked" due to sitting in the bowl for so long. I didn't even eat a quarter of it because it was not good. This is a normal go to place when in Bolingbrook. In fact, I've been here 3 times in 7 days for lunch and sadly I'm NOT impressed as I once was. Chicken "yeero" plate was a win. Avgolemono was not. One plate heaped full of healthy toppings over a bed of chicken "yeero," as COVO calls it (correct spelling is "gyro"), and rice easily fed two hungry diners. Selections of greens, chopped veggies, and zesty pasta salads all looked and tasted fresh. Overall blend of flavors on the plate played very well against each other. My guy was so impressed with the offerings that he even tried the beets I had asked to keep separate for his sake - and kept nibbling away. Safe to say this place earned a pass from him. The "no high-fructose corn syrup" Stubborn Soda fountain was an entertaining point of interest. We tried their more unusual offerings and felt the lemon berry acai, citrus hibiscus orange, and pineapple cream all invariably tasted like liquid SweetTarts to some degree. We ended up choosing root beer - and I'm the type who just saw and immediately ordered suadero, cabeza, and lengua tacos at a taqueria tonight with no idea what two of those three adventuresome meats tasted like. Regardless, root beer sans high-fructose corn syrup is still a win. Avgolemono, or "Tangy Greek Chicken Soup with Lemon Juice" on their de-ethnic-tized menu, is a well-known Greek soup. Star components: chicken and lemon. The chicken was there. The lemon wasn't. In fact, in lieu of the expected tang was a noticeably-off taste. A component that, while welcome in other contexts, was definitely sticking out like a sore thumb in this bowl of oddly-pale soup. Avgolemono is (supposed to be) a bright, cheery yellow from the combination of orzo, egg yolk, and healthy dose of lemon. This bowl was more reminiscent of New England clam chowder than lemony Greek soup in both color and high notes - that tang was barely perceptible, with what little note of citrus there was heavily overpowered by that one curious presence - one that rang of, of all things, coconut. Maybe COVO decided to use coconut oil as a cooking base? Maybe it was another ingredient entirely. I don't know. I just know avgolemono, and this item on a menu that clearly is attempting to cater to the masses in its styling is not the Greek soup it's hinting to be. And that's fine.
