If you've never had shaved snow, the flavor is actually incorporated into the frozen block itself. The machine shaves it into super thin, delicate flakes that practically melt in your mouth. It's completely different from traditional shaved ice, where you're mainly eating ice topped with flavored syrup. Watching the machine shave those thin layers off the block and voilà--you have your dessert! The $8.75 price for a small is definitely hard to ignore when it costs more than some boba drinks or even a bánh mì. But considering there aren't many shaved snow shops left and Salju managed to survive past COVID, I understand that prices have gone up. Shaved snow was honestly a game changer in the frozen dessert category for me. If you've never experienced it before, I recommend trying it at least once! Location & Parking: 3.5/5 Salju is tucked inside a small plaza with limited parking, so finding a spot may take some patience when it's busy. Ambiance: 4/5 There are a few tables inside, but it was crowded when we visited around 8:30 PM--understandable on a hot summer evening! The atmosphere was lively and filled with families and kids enjoying their desserts. Definitely more of a fun dessert stop than a quiet café. Overall: 4/5 The price makes it harder to consider this an everyday dessert, but shaved snow itself is still such a unique treat. (I've been here another time, when there was only one worker, and he was very polite.) Today is the $1.50 (half off, yay!) scoops day, and I went there with my family (four people). There were two workers, and one of them was really polite and patient. My two cousins wanted samples, but they don't speak English. Both times, I asked for samples for them. It took me a while to choose a flavor (considering all the tasty options), but it's not like I was doing any harm by just looking. When I decided on the s'mores flavor, I asked for a sample, this time for myself. If it tasted good (which it did), I was going to get it. The worker, this old Asian guy, was SUPER rude. He said today was a "special day" and they were "too busy." He said they didn't have time to serve me samples all day, and he kept repeating something about whether or not I was even going to order. The place was definitely busy, but it wasn't bursting with people. When I asked for samples, I didn't bother them when they were busy, and I didn't interrupt them when they were helping other customers (which is something customers should just never do). Besides, those first two samples weren't at all for me, and it's not like I went in just to taste every single flavor out of greediness. If I went inside the shop, of COURSE I was going to order something. After he told me off like that, I went to the other nice worker (after asking what flavors my family wanted) and ordered for four people. The ice cream was delicious and refreshing, but the behavior of that one worker ultimately ruined my Baskin Robbins experience. read more

However, my only issue with the drinks is that they always add way too much ice even though I ask for less ice. The breakfast menu is pretty solid. I usually get the Egg, Pesto, and Mozzarella Breakfast Sandwich (fluffy egg frittata with kale, basil pesto, and mozzarella on a toasted cheddar and onion bun). There are also breakfast wraps, egg bites & egg bakes, yogurt, and oatmeal. For orders that are ready, employees will leave them on the counter, where anyone can grab them. Because of this, I've run into multiple situations before where someone accidentally took my order. Employees should have better oversight in this area. Highly recommend using the Starbucks app to collect rewards points and get a free drink of your choice on your birthday. Ordering and paying can be done through the app as well as scanning your member QR code at the store.

(Important: Card Payments have an added 4% fee.) I arrived at Wen's Donuts & Bakery (South El Monte) on a weekend (around 2:53PM). Parking is very easy. The lot is HUGE! Staff speaks English and Chinese. Staff is respectful, and Staff is diligent. Staff quickly helped me and vanished into the back. On ambiance, Wen's Donuts & Bakery (South El Monte) is dimly lit, but it's very clean. It feels like most customers that arrived after me would rush to the Lotto Card Scratchers. This business has three Lotto Card machines. There are several tables for seating, and the ventilation is low but comfortable enough. Overall, Wen's Donuts & Bakery (South El Monte) is lackluster. Despite having donuts that are slightly more expensive than all the nearby donut businesses, these donuts don't taste great. The donuts made me think of dust... I hope they improve with time. 1.9 out of 5
