Do you like nearly colorless food? Tasteless food? Soggy food? Yeah, me neither. We frequent Indian restaurants all the time and have for many years. This I would barely call Indian food. Compared to restaurants we've reviewed favorably this was garbage. And that's putting it nicely. It went straight to the garbage. I'm serious. Where were the spices? Where was the flavor? See the photo of my mutter paneer? Does that look like flavor to you? It was basically yogurt with some tomato and possibly some onion. It was nuts. Mattar paneer has been my favorite dish since childhood. This was an abomination!!!!! I was not expecting food like this from Annapolis. We chose this spot on Uber Eats (who I do not recommend...we contacted them on the issue and it was pointless to waste time) because our normal choices had no drivers nearby. Gosh dang that was a mistake. Next time we will wait it out. Thanks for the garbage I guess. Glad trash night is right around the corner. Recently relocated to Annapolis and decided to try Basmati's as we very much enjoy Indian food. Being lazy, we opted for delivery which always runs the risk of not reflecting well on any establishment. Not so for Basmati! First, prep time was quick despite being prime time on Saturday. Food was beautifully packaged and arrived hot. I neglected to take pictures of the packaging - but all dishes were in well sealed plastic containers, with the rice being in a standard foil bottom, cardboard top container. Liquids were double wrapped in foil as well. And the whole order was in a nice Basmati branded bag For our first foray we tried a variety of dishes: veggie samosas, chicken korma, dal makhani, tandoori shrimp, alu gobi, and keemah mutter All were good, solid representations of the dishes. Our mistake, we chose mild as we weren't familiar with how the restaurant prepared the recipes. We definitely should have chosen medium (for wide and son) and for those who prefer more of a kick I would recommend opting for spicy. Our spice selection not withstanding - the standout dishes were the samosas as and the tandoori shrimp. Universal praise. The lamb was the next most popular dish with the others all being satisfying as well, just not quite jumping out as "stellar". Basmati delivered (no pun intended) as good, easy Indian food and we are definitely excited to try the other items on the menu. And have more samosas as well!!! read more

Best Indian food in the area. Service is spot on, place is pleasantly quiet and the Taj Mahals are big. Special place.

I love this place. My family loves this place, including two boys ages 7 and 10. It's actually their favorite place to go around here, and the wait staff remember them and bring them little mini scoops of mango ice cream. It's got an authentically decorated interior, but modest not ostentatious. It's always been clean every time I've been there. The staff is great, they make great recommendations and my glass is always full. The selection of dishes is broad. Sometimes I want things a little spicier than they can make it, but I'm a weird hot head and sometimes they can still come through with intensity. I personally think the place is good enough to become a franchise because it's just really very good, and I love that it's a reliable go-to spot. Standard fair is all very good like butter chicken and tikka masala, vindaloo, excellent fresh naan. But they also do other dishes I've not had before like Goa Fish. All delicious. Avoid lamb seekh kebabs as the quality and probably due to a change in recipe. Last fall is the last time they were well made and I complemented them for having some of best in the DMV region. However, since then the quality has drastically changed for the worse. There are other dishes that have also changed in recipe and especially lamb dishes. Service is still decent and depends on your servers. The ambiance remains unchanged. I would speculate that like other Indian restaurants in the DMV there is a lot of turnover in the kitchen. Delicious, delicious, delicious! The staff is attentive and very courteous. During lunch hours, you can order from their extensive menu or enjoy their buffet, which I may add is a terrific deal--$ 16 for vegetarian, vegan, and meat options. There is always a soup and appetizers like samosas or pakoras. It even includes chai tea. The spiciness level is mild. This is a must-try spot; I would drive to eat here if I were not in the area. I advise saving your money and time and going elsewhere. Our latest visit was very disappointing. We have gone to Basmati on and off for many years and it had been good. This evening, a Saturday night, it was awful. We came at 6pm and there were plenty of tables. We started with Mulligatawny Soup and a salad. The soup was completely without texture and had a so-so flavor. The salad was dull and flavorless. The veggies from our local grocery would have made a better salad. Still, we awaited our main courses of Chicken Muglai and Lamb Boti Kabob with high expectations. It was a big let down. Both my chicken and my wife's Lamb were very overcooked and tough. In fact my wife had to ask for a steak knife to be able to cut her lamb. The accompanying vegetables in both dishes were good but very skimpy in quantity. We left most of our food on the table. It was just too tough. To add to the experience, at the end our waiter presented us with a verbal total and stood there waiting for us to "tap" his device. No offer of coffee, tea, or dessert. No check presented. We had been friendly and made no complaints throughout the dinner. In retrospect, we should have sent it all back, but that's not us. We simply won't be back. We were craving for some Indian, specifically a buffet in which we could a try a variety - I was so glad to have called and have them confirm that they had a weekend buffet! The set-up was pretty generous, as they had a variety of accompaniments (mango chutney, raita. tamarind dressing), vegetable samosas, vegetable pakoras, fish pakora, tandoori chicken, BBQ chicken, goat curry, basmati rice, dal makhani, a mutter and mushroom paneer, garlic and butter naan, gulab jamun, kheer, and hot masala chai! Long story short, they got the order right but still went above and beyond to drop off more food to my home when really any confusion was my fault. This is the definition of great customer service. One big reason was because I have three sons, and they will eat me out of house and home so having the benefit of going to an all you can eat buffet was a blessing. I couldn't decide which one I liked the best so I put all three of them on. The Samosas were just like I remembered crispy on the outside with smashed vegetables, potatoes, peas, carrots, with a curry sort of flavored undertone that was just delicious! Got takeout from here for a nice night in. The curries were amazing - my first time trying chicken korma because I like a yogurt dish and it totally exceeded expectations. I don't know how but they perfectly cooked the rice. I wasn't a huge fan of the vegetable pakoras, the flavor wasn't great and the texture just wasn't there. The meat samosas pastry was great, though the lamb could use some moisture. All in all a great experience. They were also very fast.
