The chai tea was awesome but the girls working there are the rudest people ever. Super snotty, rude, bitter, rotten to the core. If the food wasn't so good, they'd be out of business. The owners of this establishment should consider hiring people that are friendly. I really wanted to like this bakery more than I do. The density of the bread that appeals to me usually dictates what I buy. Since most of their loaves are behind the counter, I wasn't able to feel the weight of the bread, so I settled for the Italian bread. I wanted to pair a nice loaf of bread with the Mediterranean Jack cheese I bought from the Sonoma Cheese Factory. The bread was very dry, light and airy, not what I consider to be good bread. I walked into this tiny place and didn't see any sign about order here, pay here, nothing. There were a few people standing around talking to one another near the door, so I walked up to the "L" shaped counters and selected a loaf of bread from one of the baskets. I heard a counter person shout out, "I can help the next person". No one came forward, so I asked if I could pay her for the bread. She totally ignored me like I was a piece of furniture. I tried to make eye contact with the other 4-5 people behind the counter, again still totally ignored. I asked her again as she was just standing behind the counter not doing anything when a woman walked up to the counter and said she wanted blah blah blah. I stood there for a few more minutes while someone showed her how to put the what ever it was into a bag. This was a totally terrible experience. I put the load of bread back into the basket and left. This is the worst customer service I have had in many years. After reading the other reviews [I should have done that first!] I promised myself never to return. read more

An amazing little bakery/deli. I love their sandwiches - my favorite being the brie and prosciutto. They give you plenty of both on delicious, fresh bread. They also have delicious coffee and espresso drinks. We try to stop by whenever we're in Sonoma for the day. read more

Great little cafe/coffee shop. If you're in the area, definitely worth stopping in. And come on, you're in old town Sonoma - support a local business and save your Starbucks run for the big city. They have a wide range of drinks and baked goods. Apparently Rachael Ray from Food Network came in one time, and they still feature a dessert that she was a big fan of. I'm knocking off one star because the physical building is a little messy/run down. Bathroom could use some work, and general tidying up of supplies, etc could help the ambiance. I made an online order and when I arrived to pick it up, I was told that they don't have access to their email for online orders. Then was told that they were out of French Toast ( they say breakfast served all day) I then purchased a fruit and yogurt parfait and Croque Madame. The parfait was watery and bland, the croque was tastless and the egg was runny. I also tried a Raspberry and Chocolate Pinwheel. Yum! They have a variety of pastries, breads, bagels, and cookies which are delicious. The service is generally pretty good, but varies depending on how busy they are. It is definitely a tourist spot so the weekeneds can be very busy as well as cramped! The line often stretches right up to the door. We were visiting Sonoma and wanted a quick late breakfast/early lunch before exploring the square. Basque is inexpensive and very delicious, which is a combination I'm fond of. I got the croque madame and two days later, was back to order it again. It's a simple dish but they execute it perfectly. We also got a green tea latte (we shared - the cups are huge) which tasted vaguely of marshmallows and not much else, but it was still delicious. I got a "bronut," and asked the worker why it was called that. She didn't know. It was delicious, as expected, but messy to eat. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Sonoma. read more

I have been going to this place for years, and always order the same thing, every time. No imagination there! I then read a Yelp review on their "Turkey Reuben", so, going out of my comfort zone I bravely ordered one yesterday. Wow! It was fantastic. Just the right ingredients of turkey, sauerkraut, etc. Lesson learned. Every time I go now I gonna order something I have never had before. I hand out five stars very sparingly. I want to have something in reserve when my socks are knocked off. What knocked my socks off was not quality but the price. That is in no way at all an attack on the quality. Everything we had was very good, as good if not better than anything similar you could find on the square but at prices that had me gaping. Oh, not McDonald's prices but not much more. I suppose it made a difference that we were visitors and not very price sensitive but even in out of the way Antioch these would be inexpensive prices. We were there for breakfast but I did take a look at the wine menu. Unknown names to me but all at $5 a glass. I have a suspicion, with no foundation, that I would find hidden gems. read more

I love it!!! I get the chicken panini a lot and the lemonade the employees are super friendly and put your order out quickly. It gets super busy and noisy so be prepared for that. The only downside is the prices for the pastries I would love to try some but I can't afford to pay $5-$8 for a slice of cake or muffin. read more

Great bakery/cafe in the convenient Sonoma plaza. Parking around here can be a pain, but plenty to see if you park outside the plaza and walk a bit. We skipped all the delicious looking sweet pastries and had a tri tip dip and chicken sandwich with creamed spinach. Both were yummy, good size to fill us for lunch, and add interesting twists to the sandwich ingredients. Would recommend to anyone. Well, the loaf, as i discovered when half an hour away driving home, was yesterdays bread and was stale and now has to be toasted. This is the second time this happened to us here. We were in sonoma two days for breakfast. the first day we went to the Homegrown Baking Co for bagels based in Yelp reviews. That place was terrible. The bagels were hard on the outside and dry in the middle (almost like pretzels) and the coffee was weak and not very good. So we decided to try this place even if there were some bad reviews about being crowded etc. Anyway the bread, rolls, pastry and chocolate croissants were all excellent and the coffee was very good. Went looking for a tasty beehive cake in city of Sonoma- Basque Bakery presentation was diffferent from other county bakeries but it was indeed impressive, beautiful and delicious!! Making the trip even more rewarding was Richard, the unofficial ambassador of Sonoma and Basque Cafe - Richard graciously gave a certificate for a free cookie to each grandchild and a coupon for a free loaf of french bread to my mother. The staff are fast, friendly and knowledgable. Prices are reasonable - large selection. Lucky town to have two great bakeries- we do business with both regularly. read more

Awesome place to get away and have brunch on one of my weekend drives. The quiche and omelets are outstanding and they serve excellent coffee. The breads and pastries are very very good too. I highly recommend trying the Bee-Hive cake or taking some to go. Try to get get here early because after 10am it becomes a zoo and hard to find a place to sit. read more

I've come here now and then over the years and the place has gone downhill. It's now overrated. We had a dry scone, they forgot to make our oatmeal (which came out luke warm), our latte was luke warm, too, and we had to wait 15 minutes to get our decaf brewed. I was extremely disappointed to learn AGAIN this morning before 8am they are all out of bronuts!!! they are the only cafe I know of that makes them and they ALWAYS RUN OUT I've only had 3 and I've gone over 2 dozen times! Beehive cake!! What the heck is it? Never heard of it but it looked interesting so that is what I ordered. It was so sinfully good! It's like honey, almondy, custardy, creamy deliciousness. I would agree with yelp in stating that the Basque Boulangerie is indeed A-ok. My wife and I got breakfast at about midmorning on a Friday and the wait was alright. I can see how it would be crazy during the main breakfast rush. She got a croissant and I got a grilled cheese with swiss and tomato, an italian soda, and a coffee. Total was about $13 as I recall. The croissant was alright and my grilled cheese was not melted all the way and also was passable. Not a huge fan, but if the wait is not too bad give the Basque a try. read more
