Made a reservation at Batson River a few weeks in advance and was really excited to enjoy dinner in one of the COVID/Winter-friendly fishing huts on premise. There is a $20 fee for 1.5 hours. We were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival- service was excellent throughout our meal and the ambiance of the fishing hut made for a really great experience. My group shared the sausage/pretzel appetizer and it came with pickled vegetables (which tasted quite odd). For mains, three of us ordered the Batson Burger and the other ordered the Nashville Hot tenders. The burger and fries are AMAZING! Honestly the best burger I've had in a long time. The tenders were just alright. Throughout the meal, we had a variety of drinks. The only beer that we tried was the Cleaves Clove IPA which was average. Cocktails ordered included the Winter Margarita, Mule, G&T, Woodstock, and Bulldog Punch. The favorite of the group was the Woodstock- definitely would recommend this one. Some of the other cocktails were quite funky and ended up being abandoned. Overall, cool atmosphere, loved the fishing hut, but wasn't impressed with their menu. read more

Don't be surprised if there are no seats when you arrive . Visited KPT in February and this place was hopping ! Don't be surprised when you walk through the door and find no empty seats . Such a cool, fun atmosphere. Check out upstairs game room. Very clean and friendly servers. Especially our server Emily who was checked on us regularly and offered us great drink suggestions like the "winter warmer". Veggie platter was great and polenta fries. Oh I just loved it here!! And the thing I liked most was that they were very communicative. Meaning they are a new bar/restaurant so things were moving a little slowly and they made their customers aware. Which I think is huge. Stopped by the newly established Batson River Brewing on a birthday weekend trip down the Maine coast and could not have been more pleased with our experience. The atmosphere has a warm, rustic feel to it punctuated by a warm fireplace and great music playlist setting the tone. The staff was welcoming and engaging, with a thorough overview of the menu and offers to sample the draft beers/spirits. Not able to settle on a single option, we opted for the Pale Ale and IPA flights that were packed with diverse flavor and each unique in their own right. When it comes to food our only complaint was that there were too many delicious options to choose from. We settled on the deviled eggs, chicken wings, shishito peppers, and hand cut fries all of which could hold their own at any restaurant let alone as a compliment to the main feature of the menu - the drinks. To anyone traveling through Kennebunk, make this stop a priority before winter rounds into summer and its reputation explodes. read more

Stopped in for a drink around 4:30 not really knowing what to expect. Vodka was amazing I had a mule. It was as expected with all natural ingredients and the perfect blend of cranberry and ginger beer. My lady friend thought it was a little spicy at the end of the drink. We didn't eat there but definitely will return as the food looked amazing. Patio was blocked from the wind and full of guest eating and drinking. Bartender gave me a little sip of the bourbon and it also was very smooth. A must stop for anyone who appreciates fine drinks. read more

25 minute wait to see a waiter. Server then proceeded to bring 3 beers instead of a flight of 4 beers. He said I could have one while waiting for my flight then billed me for it. We went on a Sunday night with another couple to check it out. We are from Kennebunk, so we were looking forward to supporting a new restaurant. Not having been there, when we walked in we asked if they had high chairs. The young man did not know and said he would check. After a few minutes, we asked again and got a pretty snarky comment, "This is a brewery and distillery, no, we don't have high chairs." We were surprised by the comment, but we were told it was seat yourself upstairs, so we ventured up to see what it was like. It was like a cabin, very cozy, but hard for a group. There were games being played by many and it was a cool vibe for hanging out. We ended up standing for a while until a space opened up on the couch. They were definitely understaffed for a Sunday on a holiday weekend with the Patriots playing. We waited almost 30 minutes for a drink. Pre-children, I'd say it's a great spot. However, based on the remark when inquiring about a high chair, the slow service, and the lack of seating, this place still has some challenges to overcome. read more

My family and I visited Bateson River Brewing while vacationing in Maine. The building rests on top of a hill giving it a regal appearance. The outside deck had an amazing atmosphere. Once inside the dining area is clean ,comfortable and well organized. The food appeared well prepared, tasty and arrived in a timely manner. The prices are within reason competing with the going rate. All of us enjoyed our meals. Service at Bateson River is not over the top bothersome. We were able to find our waiter when needed, and were left alone to enjoy our meals without any unnecessary interruption. My husband and I cannot stand when the service keeps coming around and asking if everything is okay every five minutes. On the flip side we equally dislike not being able to find someone when we actually do need something. Bateson River seemed to even that out nicely. The server knew the menu well and answered all our questions. If in the area again we would revisit the Bateson River Brewery. FYI the deviled eggs are to die for! read more

It makes sense now why they are creating ways to attract you there because if not for the ambiance, location and unique fish shacks.. there are plenty of other places to go instead. booked a month in advance and every person who greeted us from the start reminded us that the fish shacks "have an hour and a half limit" they couldn't be bothered or join customers in the excitement like why not start with "Welcome to Batson River is this your first time here?" Well yes and now it will also be my last. Server greeted us with the same tone and script. I couldn't enjoy the experience because i felt like i was being babysat. Steak Frites are $36 and were served cold (which another google review had the same experience) they sent them back and 15 minutes later the dish was brought back out. this didn't give us anymore time in the shack that we paid to reserve it was just a discount on the bill. never saw a manager, who should make an appearance when there is food sent back. cocktails just ok the menu is more interesting than the taste. when we left the shack and finished our drinks in the open space not one person came up to us to see if we wanted anything else to continue the night. here's the kicker... no one went into the shack after us and we were told the next reservation was 15 minutes later. to work at such a fun place, you think service would be cranked all the way up and that's what you expect booking here. i worked at the most popular hotel in boston and we had so much FUN with our guests! disappointed that the long awaited visit didn't live up to the hype. read more

I ate one piece and the person I was with had one bite and commented on how horrible it tasted. Really unfortunate considering I paid almost $20 for it. We came on a daycation here and decided to give this place a try. It's small selection of food and drinks may not satisfy everyone but it was awesome for us. Their housemade whiskey, gin, vodka, and rum goes into all of their cocktails, three of which we tried. The one we loved the most was the cider smash, a heart warming apple cider and whiskey cocktail served with a dried apple slice and a cinnamon stick. The food selection while small is comprised of tasty small plates and a couple sandwiches. We tried the chicharrones (which is not traditional chicharrones but rather pork rinds, which is fine), poutine, Brussels sprouts and the burger. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. Our service was excellent. Our server, Cole, was attentive and friendly. While we attempted to rename the cider smash "the super cider smash", he was a good sport and entertained our stupidity. I still think it should be called the super cider smash. It precipitated some fun ideas for drinks. The overall attention to detail to the food, drink and experience offered at this establishment set it apart from others we visited on our trip. We highly recommend Batson River. read more

I'll start with the good: the host was super friendly and was hustling around the restaurant the entire time we were there, I'm not sure his name, but they are lucky to have him! The Halloween decor was fun and inviting, the food was good (although in my opinion overpriced for the portions) The bad: we were at our table for lunch for at least an hour, probably more, and we saw our server ONCE. She came to take our order and we never ever saw her again. No one came by to see how our food was, to see if we needed drink refills, nothing. My food came out a good 15-20 mins before my husbands food came out. We had to call over another waitress to pay so we could get out of there, because our waitress literally was no where to be found. I understand staffing is tough right now and we try to be way more understanding when we go out, but we went to several other places in the area and it was nothing like this. Also note that if you don't like club music loud enough where your chair is literally vibrating from the bass, this may not be the place for you. read more

Stopped in for a cocktail midday recently while walking around the port. The waitress sat my wife while I slowly made my way to the table with our 2 year old. The waitress started talking to my wife, criticizing another couple with a child at a table close by (not knowing I was walking up to the table with a child of our own). When I arrived it was awkward. I caught the tail end of the conversation. My wife was very upset. We had a round of cocktails (which weren't bad) and left. We are visiting our son, daughter-in-law and FIRST grandchild/son here in Maine. They suggested we go to Kennebunkport and eat at the Batson River Restaurant. We're open to anything and agreed to meet there for lunch last Saturday. What a WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!! We sat on the porch, the weather was perfect as was the atmosphere of the restaurant. It has such a fun "vibe", music and wait staff. Everything about it was upbeat and very alive! Our server was Heidi, who was sweet and knowledgeable about everything on the menu. We ordered a round of drinks that were terrific and appetizers (mussels and cauliflower) all with a nice "twist" to the flavors. Chelsea (the manager) kept checking on us and was so incredibly sweet, fun and a joy to have at our table whenever she had the moment. We fell in LOVE with her. She runs a tight ship, with a loving hand. The Executive Chef, Ricky came to our table and was also delightfully sweet. We ordered the Lobster Roll, Hot Dogs and a Hamburger...again, the FLAVORS were WONDERFUL and again, had a nice twist to the ingredients. We LOVED his "take" on what are classic foods and quite frankly, not all that complex, but he has a way of making them all taste gourmet! Came here with the family this past weekend to enjoy a post-Christmas outing. We reserved a fish shack to enjoy the unique outdoor dining experience and were not disappointed! The whole place gets five stars just for ambience--the cutest, coziest hangout in town. The fish shack were so fun and unique, and the food was delicious. We rarely review a restaurant. We chose the Batson River because the ratings were good. We felt it was overpriced for a mediocre restaurant. The positive, the duck fat cornbread was really good. However, we had to send a basic margarita back as my husband couldn't drink it. My food came out 13 minutes before my husbands. I tried waiting for his food before I ate mine, but it was getting cold. We were told they bring the food out as it's prepared so it is hot. Well that didn't work as I felt guilty eating since he didn't have his. Any well ran kitchen times the food to come out at the same time. They over charged for the drinks and when I questioned the price I was told the flavored margarita was $4 more, but that didn't add up either. 2 regular size drinks were $34. After $118 + $20 tip later, we were very disappointed and wished we had stayed to eat at Ryan's Irish Pub across the street. It was a great Family pub with good drinks and the food looked really good! read more

No enforcement of Covid-19 protocols (patrons taking off masks and walking freely around, waiting in bathroom line without masks, barely any sanitization of surfaces touched by those without mask). Children at nearby table were trying to punch in screen window with their feet and running around everywhere.
