    Sticky mango rice

When you're in the law or trying to entertain people from out of town, ask them if they've ever had Cambodian food if not, bring them over here. There's so many dishes to try. The people are so warm and have had some of the same chefs for the last 30 years and family managed in the last three decades as well. The desserts are something you definitely wanna make sure you have room for especially the sticky mango rice. We had their house special which was a catfish egg coconut milk savory custard and veggie skewers and yellow curry (last two not photographed)

Have been coming to Battambang for nearly 2 decades now and one of our favorite Cambodian eats in the East Bay. We slowed down on eating in since Covid, but their takeout is still easy and consistently as delicious as eating in. It's impossible to pick our favorites here as there are too many. Practically every menu item is a hit and well executed. From appetizers to soups to salads to grilled options to stir fries to noods and rice. Even desserts here are the bomb! Our go to faves include the grilled pork, Smokey eggplant with ground pork and prawn, and any of their soups. The crab fried rice is also spectacular! I will say that you may want to up the spice levels when ordering as I fear they may cater more to a somewhat spice averse clientele. So don't be afraid to ask for "Cambodian or Lao spicy" when ordering if you want some heat. Portions are easily shareable and make it easy to mix and match so everyone gets to taste a selection. And don't sleep on the dessert, in particular the mango and sticky rice. Inside is warm and comfortable space and a bit of an oasis from downtown Broadway in Oakland. And the owners/hosts are always friendly and welcoming. My favorite Oakland Cambodian eats are either Battambang or Cambodian Street Food, and their vibes are very different... so it's great to have these choices for when you want something fast and "street style" or sit-down and a bit more refined. Be sure to give Battambang your business as this is what supporting a local restaurant with Oakland roots is all about.

Cozy Cambodian spot located in Oakland Chinatown. Warm and friendly staff with fragrant and unique menu items. I don't often come by many Cambodian restaurants, so I was excited to flip through the menu and try some new items. We ordered the Tamarind Eggplant, Pan Fried Catfish, and the Battambong Noodles. All dishes had ingredients I was familiar with, but slight flavor differences to what I usually eat. The Battambong Noodles are reminiscent of a pad thai without the bean sprouts; peanutty with a savory and slightly acidic sauce. Very good texture on the noodles. The eggplant was soft in texture and mixed nicely with the rice, and the tamarind sauce gave it a nice acidic punch. I really enjoyed the catfish and thought it was cooked well. The hot tea came with free refills, and I loved that the waiter came around often and asked to refill my tea, and not the other way around. Great spot, hope to be back!

I have been meaning to try this mysterious restaurant on Broadway for years and I finally did! And so glad I did! Everything we tried here was delicious! The eggplant and the noodles were standouts. I didn't realize I needed Cambodian food in my life but I truly do! We came on a Friday night, walked in for a table of three, and it was easy to grab a seat. The Cambodian auntie (maybe the owner or manager?) was taking care of us and was so so friendly and lovable lol. I want to go back to just to spend more time with her, but also to have more of the delicious food! The flavors were so tasty and I could lick the sauce of the plate (don't ask me if I did, lol!). Prices are fair. It's super quaint inside, nothing fancy, one restroom. Come support this place, you won't be disappointed! I plan to come back on the regular.

#9 eggplant with ground pork & shrimp

Updated review: You must try if you haven't. My favorite meal is #9 smoked egg plant with ground pork and shrimp in a sweet lime sauce. I don't eat egg plant and I can't get enough of it. I usually stop in at least once a week to support. The owner is the sweetest and her food is amazing. Just across the street from Old Town Oakland where the Famers Market is every Friday. Go get some.

Support local businesses! If you're looking for authentic Cambodian food in Oakland, Battambang is my top choice. The restaurant has a cozy, calm atmosphere, with Cambodian artwork and decor throughout that really enhance the dining experience. I may be biased, but this is the closest I've found to truly authentic Cambodian food that isn't homemade. During my visit, my party ordered fresh imperial rolls, sweet and sour soup, deep-fried salted shrimp, and sweet iced tea with half-and-half. The deep-fried salted shrimp was my favorite. The batter and seasoning are incredible. I've never had anything like it before and it's definitely one of their standout dishes. The sweet ice tea with half-and-half is also a must-try, with a unique flavor I haven't found anywhere else. The sweet and sour soup was another highlight, perfectly balancing tangy and sweet flavors. All of the staff are pleasant, but Aunty Vee truly stands out. She's outgoing, friendly, and adds so much to the overall experience. Great customer service always leaves a lasting impression. The only downside is the downtown Oakland location, where street parking can be difficult. That said, Battambang is absolutely worth the visit.

stuffed chicken wing, ginger chicken, and iced coffee

Wow! So good! Went for lunch on a Saturday. Service was prompt and friendly and food was super delicious. I got the stuffed chicken wings, which is a special treat. The lightly pickled veg balanced the crisp, rich, and flavorful wings so perfectly. Husband got the ginger chicken, which was super ginger-y - yum! I also had an iced coffee which was everything you'd want. 100% perfect no notes. Was halfway through before remembering to take pic

For having such an extensive menu, every single dish is perfectly prepared and consistent in quality each time! I haven't once been disappointed. The woman in charge provides such great hospitality, and I love the family vibes inside. My favorites are the lamb chops, smoked eggplant, and their fried rice (as pictured) They deserve more business!

Two of my sisters were already at Battambang for lunch. Lunch was at 1 PM. I arrived late around 1:45 PM, as I was having breakfast with several lady friends at another restaurant and we did not leave until 1:20 PM. Battambang's cuisine is Cambodian. Its location is within Oakland Chinatown. Because I was full from a heavy breakfast, I ordered an appetizer, #31 Num Banchou (Chicken & shrimp rice crepe). Description of the appetizer: Savory rice flour crepe filled with ground chicken, shrimp, bean sprout and onion served with a sweet vinegar fish sauce and peanut. It came with a small salad greens and sliced cucumber. The crepe was slightly crispy and delicious. Price: $10.95, excluding tax. My sisters had the grilled pork and eggplant dishes. I can only guess those two dishes were on point. They enjoyed them and had some leftover. Service was prompt and I did not wait long for my scrumptious appetizer. The waiter brought out the menu twice, as I needed to know the name and description of the tasty appetizer. Ambiance: casual and comfy. Nice artwork on the wall. Seating capacity is probably around 40 to 50 people. Drawback: parking is problematic. Street parking does not exist on a main thoroughfare such as Broadway. I believe the closest public parking garage is at the Pacific Renaissance Center, which is approximately two blocks east of this location. Return visit? Yes! This restaurant is a change from dining on Chinese cuisine constantly. It is near my brother's home.

My friends and I have dined at Battambang for lunch a couple of times now and really enjoyed the food and service. We came on weekdays both times as we were told Battambang is busy on weekends, which is understandable as the food is delicious & the price points are affordable. It was a wet chilly day this afternoon when we got to Chinatown and the choices were Chinese hotpot or Battambang - I said the person that pays is the decision maker so it was Battambang. The lunch specials are great deals so give them a try. We ordered 6 dishes this time, 4 from the regular menu and 3 lunch specials: sausages, chicken curry, Battambang noodles, pan-fried trout, shrimp & veggies skewers and the beef skewers. That sounds like a lot of food for 3 people but it was barely enough; we ate everything. We absolutely recommend this place for good Cambodian cuisine.

#10 lunch combo with chicken... was flavorful and delicious with a bit of spicy kick.
    Rick P.

Great place for the work crew to gather for lunch specials, and all the fools flavorful and delicious. It's a quaint restaurant, located right on Broadway with the great of the street. They may have been short on staff this day because service was a bit slow, flight they did their best which is fine with me. Definitely would come back again.

    We ordered the #70

Came to visit the Bay area and explored the Oakland Chinatown area. We found this and it was a great find! It was our first time trying Cambodian food and it is delicious! The staff is very kind and attentive. We ordered a noodle dish with a delicious thick sauce (#70 on the menu) and for dessert we ordered the fried bananas-- DELICIOUS! Definitely Recommended!

Lychee, Passion Fruit, Guava and Soursop, a tropical fruit you don't see every day. Soursop was the winner with the lychee and guava as runners up. Our table ordered one vege curry with fried chicken (oxymoron we know but the banger of the evening- you can add meat to the vege dishes), one noodle dish and a seafood soup. The curry sauce had just the right balance of curry, coconut and spices. Broth with the noodles was outstanding, it must be one of those 24 hour creations of love -- layering umami with savory deliciousness. This is a great find recommended by my daughter and now I'm recommending Lunette to you. My group and I ordered the Slaap Moarn Borg (boneless chicken wings like angel wings), Spicy Tofu with Lemongrass, Cha Kathiw (like Pad Thai), and the Sachkor Ang (beef skewers). The food came out relatively quickly one at a time. Everything tasted good, but the ones I enjoyed most were the Cha Kathiw and Sachkor Ang. I liked it so much I came back a second time within the week for take out! The noodles were a perfect chewiness and had delicious flavor that wasn't overpowered by peanuts and tanginess, which was nice. The beef skewers has a lot of lemongrass bits and it comes with a nice red-orangey dipping sauce. It was very flavorful, which is why I can see it's staple here! The wings lacked some flavor, but it was soft enough and not dry. The tofu dish had a good balance of tofu with mushrooms; I'd order this again in person! The Thai iced coffee was delicious and strong! As it should be. It did give me the jitters though because I'm a weak sauce. We were a party of ten and I was able to make rezzies via phone for a Friday evening at 6:30pm no problem about a week beforehand. The kiddos ordered à la carte, and five of us adults had the following: - BMV ultimate papaya platter with Lao sausage, angel wings and crispy pork. Crispy pork was legit, papaya salad definitely had that extra funk. The angel wings were crispy and meaty and my friends loved the Lao sausage. One even said "it's like tom yum soup in a sausage". It was very lemongrass forward which is not my thing, but that's my problem. I feel we could have ordered à la carte and that would have been a better deal than $75 for the platter. Some of it was fluff like the cabbage, rice and pork rinds. - Khao soy soup: Fiancé thought it would be creamy and coconut-y like the Thai version but it wasn't. I did enjoy the flat noodles but they were all stuck together. - Pia pla ka pow (fish with basil): Good one. The fish was moist and flavorful. The veggies were al dente and delicious too. - Sakoo: Unique! I enjoyed the chewy mochi exterior and the savory ground pork filling. It needed a sauce. I just used the chili sauce that was on the party platter. - Laab Gai: This fell flat for me. I'm not a huge fan of organs though. - Nam khao fried rice: One of our favorites! The crispy pieces really made this dish. Would definitely order this again. - Mango sticky rice: Served warm. Very sweet mango! - Purple rice with egg custard: Also served warm. This was ok. - Side of rice: HUGE serving! Unfortunately it was clumpy and hard, which means old. Street parking only. Get the nam khao and mango sticky rice!

The young lady named Laila, who is the cashier, said, "on a busy day" it's normally between 45min-2 hour wait times. With those extensive wait times, people will walk away and patronize other businesses. I counted 15 people who walked away. So Let me know if you guys need help in this area, I specialize in catering and time management. (The most important) The customer service was amazing. The young lady Laila who is the cashier was very sweet and respectful and still kept it professional when I was "in my feelings" about the wait time. So I appreciate you Laila for understanding my feelings and not taking it personal after I was told food would take 45 minutes. Unfortunately, We received our order at 2:05pm. Never in my life have I ever waited this long for food unless I was cooking it. This is why I can't rate it a 5. They did apologize for the long wait time which i appreciate for acknowledging that it did take hella long. The ambiance of the area was nice. It is a food truck and they have a nice area to sit and eat. It is four picnic tables but you have to claim them before others do. If you are with a group, and want to sit and eat, I suggest one person claim a table and the other person(s) orders the food. (What I came here for) The food was amazing which I mentioned to the owner. When I say it is hella good I'm not capping. We ordered Beef sticks with rice but The beef sticks are $3 a piece &The rice is an extra $3, 5 egg rolls but i forgot the prices of each one, and Garlic Shrimp and with garlic noodles. I also had to mention that I was not happy about the 1 hour and 20 minute wait which she apologized again. So Overall my experience was amazing minus the wait time. The food is a but my overall rating is a 4 due to the massive waiting time.

Are you a TK person or VH person? Me, I think it's safe to say I'm both. I'm not going to lie,…read moreif we're talking about wait time, VH literally takes the cake. It is always so busy! This is a fast place, table sharing, no room having place. If you're looking for a western style dining, it can become overwhelming. But, just embrace the speed and efficiency of this restaurant. Because once you are seated, you're served immediately to get you on the way. With service, don't expect tier 1 experience, but you'll get your water/tea. Savor it, don't assume they'll come back while you're still eating. Just saying! There's a few things on the menu that are must have.. 1. Chow Jew Ho Fun with soup on the side - the obvious that everyone orders. I like to get soup on the side, and then put about two tablespoons soup back into my noodle and add all the sauces! Then occasionally, sip the soup to wash everything down. 2. Beef Stew Ho Fun - My boyfriend's must have. Flavorful, soft meat, delicious. 3. Fish Cakes - Personally, I don't care for fish cakes, but my boyfriend and his family order it all the time, so of course I'll still eat it. It's still good. I'm just a person who feels I can buy it from the banh mi shops and it taste the same. Lol I don't eat anything else here. This is one of those restaurants where you go and eat what they're known for, not wander off too far away from the menu because the other stuff is just legit filler items. The only problem I have is, it's so expensive now for a small bowl. So it makes me not want to come back, but at the same time, flavors are really good. You just would think with the amount of customers, the business thriving, you could at least keep the portion size the same as before..
