Great breakfast place! Ok I have a few tips to make your visit more enjoyable. 1. Make reservations. This place gets packed for good reason. 2. If you didn't make reservations and ask if being seated outside is faster to get seated. 3. They will ask for a phone number to text you your in the waiting list and when your table is ready. 4. Food comes out fast. Bottomless coffee. 5. Some items you can choose 1 side order or 2 side orders. 6. Look at the menu before going or while waiting (posted here on Yelp) There are so many options and if you're hungry you might be in a hurry to order and miss something you really would have wanted to order. 7. Becareful don't have "Big eyes" these are good size portions my wife and I shared and still couldn't finish. You can get all the normal diner style favorites like eggs, bacon, sausage and a whole plate size pancake or get a Pork Verde breakfast omelette or opt for a burrito. I decided to try Batter Up Pancakes after seeing good reviews and since we were passing by during a Kings Canyon National Park visit. We visited on a weekday and were seated within a few minutes. We sat outside since we had our dog, which was a nice option. I had a mimosa and the chilaquiles, and my boyfriend ordered the chile verde burrito. Portions were really generous-we didn't even finish our plates. The food was good, though I do wish the chilaquiles had come with sour cream and a bit more chicken. Chile verde burrito was yummy! Service was fine and everything came out in a reasonable time. Only downside was the restroom situation-there's just one, and even though I locked the door, someone still walked in right as I was coming out of the stall... super awkward and uncomfortable Overall, a solid spot with big portions and a relaxed vibe on a weekday. Very inconsistent information from different employees on wait time here. I went for a party of 2 a few days ago and was quoted a 30 minute wait upon my arrival. We were happy to wait that amount, especially because the website waitlist was down and we couldn't get on it. We wound up waiting over an hour to be seated. After 40 minutes, I went up to the hostess to ask what our remaining wait time was expected to be. She was very rude and said "you were told 45 minutes"...which I hadn't been...and I'd been helped by a different person so there's really no way she'd know. I said "could you just tell me the expected remaining wait time is?" and she once again rudely replied fifteen minutes, and even that was false as we waited 25 more. Inside the restaurant, I watched several patrons be asked to switch their seats after large parties showed up and staff realized they had sat smaller parties in the wrong areas. We waited another 30 minutes for a very simple order of 4 total pancakes for our table. We didn't get to eat for very long because, after all this, the restaurant had just 30 minutes till close when the food arrived and we were promptly given the check about five minutes after the food showed up. The food was fine. I got the Hawaiian pancakes and they were about the quality of any pancake you might make at home. The inside is plastic chairs and an AI baseball diamond poster. This would all be fine if two pancakes weren't $18.99 and $4 for a cup of coffee. While the restaurant prides itself on its lowkey vibes and simplicity, the prices don't feel like they match the quality of the food. read more

I took my grandson to breakfast a few weeks ago. We both had pancakes and they were very good. However, the fresh fruit was anything but fresh. Both the strawberries and the bananas were sad looking, mushy and didn't taste well. I'm from Monterey where there is always fabulous fresh fruit, so I guess my expectations are fairly high... but when my 9 year old grandson says the fruit reminded him of baby food, there is definitely a problem. It was very uncomfortable and I didn't enjoy my meal as much as I would have if it was tolerable inside. Also, it makes me uncomfortable that its major items are eggs and bacon...both of which I hope are cooled at a safe temperature and not the brink of unsafe just to save a few bucks. If they're willing for their staff and customers to be visibly uncomfortable, how much care are they putting into their food safety precautions? This time we came at a later hour where we could order from both the breakfast and lunch menu. I, of course ordered my usual omelette and pancake side. The Trip to the Mound omelette comes with choice of bacon, sausage or ham plus sautéed spinach, mushroom, onions, tomato, and cheddar & jack cheeses. At $19.99 plus the added $3.99 for egg whites, this is no cheap breakfast. The additional charge is extraordinarily high compared to my experiences at other breakfast places. My son ordered the Monster Burger, our first to touch the lunch menu. And boy was that burger monstrous! The 1/3 lb patty comes with ham, bacon, fried egg, cheddar, swiss, jalapeño pepper jack, mayo, ketchup, tomato, red onion, lettuce & pickle plus a side. For $19.99, I can see how they justify the price with all that's piled into this burger. We did take our food to go given the wait to dine in was over 30 minutes. I recommend joining the online waitlist before heading there because there is solidly a 30-45 minute wait. Came on a Thursday midday hoping there would not be a wait but that wasn't the case. The food is average, nothing special. I got the Tri-tip sandwich. All the condiments come separate on the sandwich, so you have to request for them to put like BBQ or mayo depending on your liking. The size of the sandwich was actually big. The Tri-tip in the sandwich was good, nothing overtop, but it did not have that smoky taste to it which had me a little disappointed. The fries were good, nice salt balance. My dad got an omelet and it was a good size. He said it was pretty good. The pancake was huge. It had crispy edges and was soft on the inside. The food was very good and the portions are huge. They gave us an extra side of French Toast- not sure if it was included or because of the long wait. The service was ok- we waited a long time before the server asked for our order. It almost felt as if they forgot we were there. Once we got our order in it didn't take long to get our food. By this time, the place was thinning out. Our server eventually came by and we asked for a coffee refill. The service could have been better. All in all, the food was good, there is plenty of parking available and the restaurant is easy to access. The ambiance was nice- typical breakfast cafe style. The food is good. Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (10/10): I LOVE these pancakes!!! The amount of cinnamon was perfectly strong. The cinnamon and caramelized brown sugar added a nice crunch, which added a great textural variety in my mouth. The cream cheese icing added a nice tang and sweetness to the pancakes. The pancakes are pretty sweet, so they might be overwhelming. I recommend getting something savory to pair with the sweetness. Coffee Cake Pancakes (9/10): These pancakes definitely resembled coffee cake in pancake form. There were lots of brown sugar crumbles that topped the pancakes. There was a small scoop of butter on top of the pancakes as well. I recommend spreading the butter on each piece. This pancake was a bit too sweet for me, but you definitely get exactly what the name of the dish! Green Eggs and Ham (10/10): This is a must get every you come time here. I love the flavor that the pesto gives the eggs and hams; it definitely elevates a basic breakfast dish to another level. The hash browns are perfectly crispy and taste amazing with some ketchup. If you're craving a savory breakfast, make sure to order this! Eggs and Country Steak (6/10): The eggs were a perfect sunny side up. The yolk was satisfyingly runny when I cut into the egg yolk. The country steak was a bit too dry and didn't have enough flavor for me. They sauce on top was super yummy and helped with the flavor and texture of the country steak. I chose French toast for one of my sides, and it was not that great. It was a too soggy and did not have enough cinnamon flavor. I recommend eating the French toast with lots of maple syrup to make up for the lack of flavor. Overall Thoughts: Batter Up is definitely one of my favorite breakfast/brunch places that I have ever tried. This place has been in Fresno for such a long time, and it gives me so much nostalgia every time I come back. Their pancakes are so fluffy and delicious, by far the best pancakes I have ever had. Some of their savory dishes are also just as good! The wait times are pretty long, which is why I recommend putting yourself on the online waitlist before arriving. They're always super busy, so the waiters might take a bit of time to attend to your tables. Because of the amount of people, it can be relatively noisy, but that is to be expected. I'm also pretty sure that their pancakes have gotten smaller. When I first ate at this restaurant, I remember the pancakes being so much larger. Despite this, the prices have either risen or stayed the same. Although I am a little disappointed that their pancakes are not as big anymore, the quality in their food has not changed. If I could give Batter Up Pancakes a 4.5 stars, I would! I came here to meet up with a friend and had an overall wonderful experience. Lots of vegetarian options and yummy breakfast choices. Food: Great portion sizes and wonderful flavors! The Apple Cin Chip Crunch pancakes were fluffy and had a wonderful crunch topping. The toppings taste like oatmeal cooked in brown sugar and cinnamon. I wish they added more of the toppings! The Caprese omelet was larger than expected and had a good savory flavor. The Mike is a classic and safe breakfast option that gives you a sweet and savory combo. Service: the waitress was friendly and the food was brought out quickly. The reason Batter Up Pancakes is bumped down a star is that our experience felt a bit rushed as the waitress came often to ask for our order when we were just seated and gave us the bill when we were about 3/4 through our meal. Although their name might imply that they only serve pancakes, they actually have a very extensive menu with options for everyone. I've been on a savory kick rather than sweet so I opted for their shrimp chilaquiles. They serve Lana coffee which is great and fresh squeezed OJ. Once our food came out my order wasn't correct, but the server took care of it immediately. In the meantime I had some of my husbands macadamia pancakes and they were delicious! One word for Batter Up.... VARIETY! They have so many pancake flavors and toppings to choose from. If you don't really care for pancakes they also have other breakfast dishes like breakfast burritos/ sandwiches and omelettes. The pancakes are obviously the star of the show, the sides such as eggs and bacon or sausage are good but just your basic breakfast food. The protein pancakes were good taste wise but very dense. We went on a Saturday morning and I highly suggest you join the waitlist on their website, we waited almost an hour before we were seated.
