Lupe showed me where the specials were and was so helpful. When ready, I went up to the counter and ordered. Though there are many comfort food options, I was also so pleased to see a Veggie Burger- it was very good, probably one of the best I've had at a restaurant-the patty was crisp on the outside, moist on the inside, and very flavorful. I asked for a side of rice, and I had a choice of Spanish Rice, Jasmine Rice, or Rice Pilaf. I had the Rice Pilaf. My food came out pretty fast and very fresh, and might I say, for a diner, their attention to presentation and detail was very commendable. The fries coming with the burger was awesome, I ate them so quickly, couldn't get enough! The decor is very simple, but has all you'd need, clean tables and chairs. While I ate there, two more groups came in and it was their first times too- they all received the same cordial & helpful greetings. The food was genuinely bad--especially the oatmeal, which was watery, undercooked, and honestly shouldn't have been served at all. On top of that, the service was frustrating. I saw Sunnyside Diner featured on Localish recently and came on a whim Saturday morning. The space was smaller than I thought but very cozy to see a full house with what looked like regulars. I ordered the sausage breakfast burrito and was told it would take 30 minutes-made sense because they were busy. I was okay waiting and hoped it would be worth the wait. The burrito was smaller than I'm used to, but I liked the crispy potatoes and even distribution of ingredients. Added hot sauce and it was perfect. Of course I had to order clam chowder to go. The space is open with several tables. While we were there, there were LOTS of to go orders picked up. Our food was good but not great or delicious. We may have just ordered the wrong things and lunch items sounded much more appetizing. I'll definitely come back to try those items. I thought the biscuits were stale and the gravy looked like it broke. It was edible. The over easy eggs and crispy hash browns were the stars. The clam chowder that I ate later had good flavor, but not enough clams - still a good value for the price. Food was great, cooked to my liking, seems like everything is fresh. Wasn't super greasy or something you would eat at a dennys or ihop. It's comfort food which is amazing. It is a small place and fills up fast, the kitchen is partially open so you can see them cooking your food which is super cool to me because you know it's done right. They have great communication with their employees and customers and seems everyone works well together. Loved the customer service. It might not be the prettiest place to eat at but once you sit down and have your food, and look at the people around you, it all comes together well. We were greeted as we entered and asked if it was our first time there we said yes and the lovely gentleman showed us the menu on the wall and the specials and said to order when we were ready. I ordered the chorizo break fast burrito with hash browns and my husband had the big sunny side burrito with sausage and French toast and oj. There were about parties ahead of us still waiting on their food when we arrived. There was only a cook and the man who greeted us at the register. We waited about 30 mins to our food which was understandable. When I go my breakfast burrito looking at it I thought I was very small but looks was definitely deceiving. The burrito was packed with so much flavors and very filling. It was delicious. Love how the outside of the tortilla was crunch and it was piping hot and fresh on the side. The chorizo was made well and the has hash brown inside was crunchy just the way I like it!! Over all my husband and I were satisfied. The service was great and food was amazing. The food was a 5 out of 10, it was good but I've had better. The food portions were not big and the taste was mediocre. The service was good as far as the young man behind the counter who washed dishes, served the people, took orders. Cleaned up and brought us our food. The wait was about an hour which is ridiculously long. The sign says "Fresh food takes time to prepare." Which is true, but an hour? They definitely need at least one more person. The ambiance was good the small town Diner feeling was good. Would I come back? No, the menu choices are few and far between. I'd stick with Sandy's Junction in Clovis there it's a little more, but it's everything you would expect. read more
