I do my own car work. This is only the second time I have taken a car to a shop with the exception of transmission work. I am very picky about how things are done and a tad bit critical as well as tight with money. That said, doing the roller rockers on the wife's Chrysler was going to be a project since it was the right bank (the side against the firewall) and, frankly, I did not want to burn my vacation under the hood in the rain. The wife had three referrals from friends but Inder and Neer won the business. I called all three referrals and told the folks the situation: 2013 Chrysler 3.6 with 100k miles and the Pentastar Knock on the right bank. Please replace all roller rockers and lifters. Give me a ballpark. Inder was the only person who after a couple questions, said, "I do those frequently. Labor will be about XXX and parts will be around 500 for what you want done." This is the guy I wanted. While I was there I had him change the spark plugs too. They did a fantastic job. The labor rate was fair at $750 for 6 hours charged (others are asking up to $285/hr). Parts were a minimal markup over NAPA list (that's fair) and he used high quality replacement parts. I probably wouldn't have used NKG iridium but the van is running great. I don't have others work on my cars often, but when I do, it will be Inder and Neer. read more

I bought my 2009 BMW 328i to 1) recharge the AC fluid, 2) diagnose and replace the pump for the window shield washer fluid, and 3) fix the broken wires in the trunk lid (common BMW problems that prevented the trunk to be opened). Inder knew exactly what each problems were, and fixed all 3 issues for a very, very reasonable cost. I will definitely come back for service. read more

I have been a customer for close to 20 years. I came to update my reviews with another great experience only to find I didn't have a review...my bad for sure. You will not find a more honest business. More than once have I gone there and they found nothing wrong or something so minor they took care of it on the spot for no charge. Came in since it seemed I was probably getting close to needing brakes, Inder calls me later to say I have probably close to 2 years left on my brakes. Great and again no charge for the inspection most places would have probably just done unnecessary work to make a buck. This auto service is owned by Neer and Inder. These two have been at this location for over 12 years, it is near the Smog Guys where I normally get my vehicles smogged by Steve. I called here to inquire about getting a quote on a timing belt package replacement (timing belt, serpentine/drive belt, water pump replacement, radiator flush and tensioner adjustment). Neer provided a quote over the phone, I scheduled an appointment, he told me it would take all day, to drop the Honda Odyssey minivan by 9.30am and pickup near closing 5pm. When I came in he took down some of my details and gave me a written quote. Later on during timing belt disassembly Inder (who got his ASE certifications from Sequoia Institute in Fremont) discovered that the tensioner had too much play in it and the drive belt would eventually wear again in 6 months or so. He was not pushy, he said I can show it to you, or I can replace it and you just pay for parts, no labor as I am working on that area anyhow. So I decided to trust him and do it, this did raise the original quote but I rather have it fixed now then later. Car was ready a little later than 5pm but I was happy to wait as I could see they were still working on the van, adding coolant, tightening bolts, etc, it then came off the rack and the V6 engine still purrs like a kitten! Inder even showed me the tensioner and the play that it had along with the timing and drive belts. You could see the wear on the drive belt where it was coming off the tensioner assembly but you couldn't see the wear on the timing belt (could have micro-tears). But it Has been 9 years, so it was best to air on the side of maintenance interval change as I had 43K miles on the original belts and the dealer was pushing for me to change them. Neer even tightened my chassis bolts which stopped a single clunk sound I got sometimes when I would turn left. In summary Bay Area Auto Service knows what they are doing, Inder is ASE certified, pleasant to talk to, no BS and is courteous. He will tell you what he finds without any upselling. Neer is friendly too, he handles the front office and helps out in the back. After reading all the Yelp reviews, I felt confident in finding a reputable auto shop for repairs/ maintenance. I could not move forward with my car repair problem for eight months until a friend referred me to Inder at Bay Area Service. I got many quotes and not a good diagnosis. I brought my car here to fix a clicking noise coming from my dashboard. Inder diagnosed the problem right away as an issue with the HVAC actuator door. While the part only costs $45 it's extremely tough to access, so the labor would be $500. He explained how to stop the noise from happening and suggested I wait until it actually affects the performance of the HVAC system before fixing it. Mechanics scare you - they tend to be dishonest and indifferent. Not Inder and Neer. They are honest, amicable, and genuinely care about you. I had an excellent experience here. Rates are low and I felt confident leaving my car in their hands. Besides getting my major maintenance and brakes completed in about 2 hours, they also pointed out a nail in my tire and offered to fix it free of charge if Skip's (from where I bought the tire and had road hazard protection) couldn't get it fixed. They also successfully diagnosed a problem I had with my idle, and the problem is now gone. In addition, they aren't out to squeeze the last drop of money from your pockets. When telling a customer of his truck's problems, upon telling him that the repair would be expensive (costing ~$1500), they also told him to go back home and debate over whether he wanted to keep the truck and go ahead with said repairs or look into obtaining another vehicle instead. P.S. They check the annoying check engine light for free, which other places usually charge an arm and a leg for. read more

I have been taking both my Hondas and my Mercedes SUV here. Inder and the team are amazing. They won't charge you an arm and a leg; and, most importantly, they won't charge you for stuff you don't need or that they can do in a second. For instance, they replaced a light bulb for me on my Mercedes. They only charged me for the bulb. This was not the case with my BMW at the dealer on Steven Creek. Another time my wife couldn't open her glove compartment in her Honda Odyssey. Inder got it open and only charged us for a lock--no labor cost. Guess where I had my Mercedes' and Honda Odyssey's brakes done? AT BAY AREA AUTO SERVICES! Inder and his team gets it: Don't over charge on the small stuff = get the major jobs. Those shops who overcharged me for repacing a signal light bulb definitely aren't getting any more of my business. BAAS is awesome. Give them a ring! PS: Super friendly service!
