I called Bay Area Water Heaters (BAWH) because I had a Navien NPE240A tankless water heater that was acting up. BAWH said they didn't service that particular unit, but they highly recommended and referred me to another person (Jim), who I called. Jim was excellent; he diagnosed the problem over the phone through a methodical process-of-elimination, and with a few photos that I sent him, was able to instantly spot the problem and told me how to fix it. He didn't charge me for his time, either, despite my offer to do so. Although it was Jim and not BAWH that helped me and diagnosed the problem, BAWH gets a five-star review from me because they went out of their way to refer me to Jim, who was excellent, and the fact that BAWH is affiliated with such a solid guy speaks positively of them. read more

It's never a good day to find out your hot water heater is leaking. I'm grateful for two things - one, I discovered it within hours of it starting and less than a gallon had leaked out. Second - I discovered Bay Area Water Heaters. Ok, and third - Tony made my problem go away for an affordable price. My old Kenmore was installed probably in 2002? It definitely took good care of us for far longer than it should, and I'm grateful. But there's no repairing it. I used the chat option on their main website, and Chris was terrific in understanding what I needed, and getting someone out to replace it with a high quality water heater that same day. I did my best to clear a path and ensure Tony could do whatever he needed to, and then we left him alone. He was a delightful person who was very professional. He also made sure I knew how to contact them if there were ANY problems (his emphasis), and put a pan under the water heater so if it ever leaked in the future, it wouldn't get all over. So, for those who have read this far - how did I know? There was an odd noise coming out of the vent in the front of the water heater. I heard it on my way out to a dentist appointment. Chris provided me with an email quote, and when I let him know that I wanted to shop around for more estimates, he didn't push or attempt to persuade me into making a decision faster. After a few months (holidays and all), I wrote Chris back to schedule the install. He honored the original estimate and even offered same-day service. Leka showed up during the time window and was able to install the new water heater in less than two hours from start to finish. He made sure that he understood the problems we were having and provided an up-front estimate that fell on the lower end of Chris' initial estimate. Bay Area Water Heaters deserves its 5-star Yelp rating. I initially contacted several plumbers via Yelp yesterday. Bay Area Water Heaters was the first to respond (in less than a minute!) and had a reasonable up-front price to replace a 10 year old water heater that had failed. Chris was the one with whom I interacted for the price quote and to schedule the work. The work was scheduled for the next morning (with the arrangement made in the afternoon of the day before the work)  They are very responsive and reasonable. Some vendors replied saying that they needed an in-person visit to give a price quote. That is just an opportunity to get the customer to agree on the spot and under pressure to a sales pitch. I won't deal with that sort of company. I understand that conditions on-site might need to be addressed at higher costs, but it is still possible to quote a range of prices. The Yelp service to reach out to different contractors for a project is great! Bay Area Water Heaters did quote a price range (about $200 between the low and high price). When Dave and his crew arrived on site, there was a small ($50) increase to the high price of the estimate, but it was explained by Dave and I accepted it. There was also a discount for paying in cash (and an extra charge for paying by credit card). I went to the bank and got the cash while they were working. The work was done competently and the new water heater was installed in around an hour. read more
