I was on a morning walk when I ran into this place in Coronado. The book store caught my eye, and then I realized they offered coffee and bites, so I stepped in. I ordered an iced latte with oat-milk and a little breakfast sandwich on an English Muffin as well. The coffee was very good. It was smooth and silky from a barista blend of oat-milk. The breakfast sandwich was good. They prepare the egg with a runny yolk, so be careful. Mine burst with a yolk stream when I bit into the sandwich. On a good note, the little breakfast sandwich was quite good. The sandwich came with one fried egg, bacon, and cheese. You can choose sausage, too. The hospitality was very good. The young lady who took my order was nice and service was efficient. The sandwich was made to order and came out in a timely manner. They offer some comfortable seating outside. It is a great place for people watching, not to mention to find that special book. read more

Bay Books was the first stop to the San Diego Book Crawl and I was so excited that they had a conjoining coffee shop! I ended up getting a earl grey iced matcha with honey, a diet coke for my best friend and pup cup for my little Pomeranian Kodi. The baristas are super friendly, they were so generous with the pupcup, my little 10 pound pom loved. My latte was really nice too you can really differentiate between the Earl Grey and the matcha which was nice. It really gave me the caffeine I needed. It was so nice to be able to buy my books and then get a latte and read outside, definitely going to come back for books and bevvys. Also, they had a kiosk where you can buy Pokemon cards which was pretty cute. read more

What a nice spot! My family and I spontaneously got a coffee, crepe, and pastry and sat at one of the outdoor seats. It took a teeny bit longer than I expected since there wasn't too much traffic, but we made do with entertaining books we purchased at the store, as well. It wasn't initially clear that I couldn't also purchase books at the counter, even though the shelf was directly in front of the counter. I got to scope out the small but really sweet store. Best matcha I've found in Coronado, and I've tried nearly every coffee shop here! Traditionally made. Einspanner is the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess. Adding a flavor gives a nice jam topping versus just syrup. If I could get this every day, I would! Love browsing around the bookstore next door too. read more

This place wasn't super good, I don't know if it was because they had just opened for ~30 minutes in the morning or what, but the pineapple smoothie came half blended with huge pineapple chunks still floating around. The granola in the acai bowl did not seem fresh and was very chewy rather than crispy/crunchy. Also, way too much sweetener added to the bowl which really interfered with the overall taste and made it so that I had to gulp down water while eating it. I would not come back again. It was really hard to get all the food down to be honest and I was hoping it would have been a good breakfast option to start off my Coronado trip with a friend! read more

Bay Books Coffee Shop is located on Orange Avenue across the street from Harry's Coffee Shop- a popular classic American DIner. What is lovely about Bay Books Coffee Shop is the conjoining book store right next door to it (Bay Books). The exterior of the coffee shop is very lovely, I love the color choice of the dark natural wood, black lettering, and seafoam green titlework. I also saw some gold detailing that looked beautiful against the sunlight, but there was this massive Sprinkles Cupcake vending machine that was in front of it... I think this took away from the space and made the exterior feel a little cluttered.They have outdoor seating with umbrellas, no indoor seating and no bathroom (we had to go to across the street to Panera). Also, just to note, I wish they had the menu placed in an area where the people standing in line would be able to see it. Because the sizing and angle, compared to where people stood made it a bit difficult to read. I asked the worker if it was okay that I paid with cash. She said yes, but she didn't have any quarters. I also didn't have quarters, but I wondered in my head if she had other coins that would add up to the money needed to give back to me. There was already a bit of an awkward exchange and I noticed a man behind me waiting & didn't want to hold up the line so I accepted the dollars and said forget about the quarter change. I ordered off their signature drink menu and asked for the smaller cup: I believe it was around ~$6.75, for their Iced Coconut White Mocha (Espresso, White Mocha, Steamed Coconut Milk). It also surprisingly came with toasted coconut shavings as well. I think this drink, unmixed, was delicious. When I mixed it, the coconut was more subtle and the white mocha took over the espresso-- leaving this drink more on the sweet side vs espresso forward. I did contemplate on asking for half sweetness, but didn't want the flavors to be too minimal. I think if they had a toasted coconut syrup or milk to amplify the coconut flavor without the extra textures in the drink...it would be super lovely. The lid for the drink was quite oval and large which allowed for chunks of ice and the toasted coconut bits to bombard my mouth. This is not a sipable friendly drink for the car ride! My friends ordered their Pistachio Matcha and enjoyed it. The matcha wasn't too bitter, nor was the drink too sweet. After mixing the bottom thoroughy, they were able to taste the pistachio and they mentioned it didn't taste horribly artificial like some other coffee shops have made them. Overall, Bay Books Coffee Shop was a nice spot in Colorado to stop into. It's nice they were open till after 2pm as most coffee shops that I am used to usually close at that time. I actually ordered my drink around 3:30 ish pm and so thinking-- it was a little bit odd they didn't have any change at that time. i think having stocked coin wrappers in the register would be ideal! Definitely check this place out for your next coffee stop! Coffee was fantastic! I've been on a salted honey latte kick recently, and theirs did not disappoint. I had it iced and the vanilla cold foam on top was the perfect touch! Will def be trying that version at home. Two complaints- need a bigger trashcan outside, and the staff were not super friendly. The trash can was something out of a bathroom. If you have an outdoor seating area, have a bigger trashcan! I know everyone has an off day, so I'm not holding it against them. I'm from the south where everyone has a smile on their face... so maybe just a different culture out in Cali! read more

Honestly, my ideal shoppe. Books & coffee. A very cute bookstore w a cafe front. The staff were super nice & helpful, and recommended a drink to my preference. The actual coffee is excellent. I got the Vienna latte, a yummy & quality espresso drink, topped with a house cream - think a clotted cream. STEPH JUDGEMENT: Cute bookstore with good coffee and soft serve. My friends and I were walking around the area when we noticed their sign advertising $1 soft serve after 5pm. Of course we had to check it out. The soft serve wasn't fancy, but perfectly good. I ordered an Americano, which was also good. They have a bunch of tables out front, where we enjoyed our snack. Service was good and friendly, but there was only one employee working to take orders, make coffee, and prepare food, so keep that in mind. Small place right in downtown Coronado; simple menu, breakfast items no longer served after 12pm whiz was disappointing. Nonetheless, settled for a big square slice of vegetarian pizza which, even though it was re-warmed, was very good. Light, not too salty. The best coffee shop in Coronado! Not only are the coffee drinks just absolutely delicious, the baked goods are out of this world! My husband tried the Apple fritter and banana bread last weekend and he said he wanted to cry because it was that delicious. I feel like most coffee shops make an iced mocha (my favorite drink) taste like chocolate milk but at Caffe Buona Forchetta, you can actually taste the espresso, which I love! They make all the drinks you normally see at coffee shops but they also have a special menu. Our dog really enjoys coming here as the staff is so sweet to him. The sweet girl who works there along with the very nice young man asked us if our dog could have some whipped cream. We said of course and the sweet girl came around the counter to us and held the little cup in front of our dog so he could eat the whipped cream. It was so sweet! Both of them are just so lovely to talk to. We've tried almost every coffee shop in Coronado and this one is by far the best. Incredible coffee, scrumptious baked goods and the sweetest staff. My experience overall was just not good. Maybe it was because the worker genuinely didn't know how to make my drink, but I sincerely did not know it was this hard to mess up a coffee drink. I got the Jorge and genuinely for the price of this, DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT go here. Super watery, as if it was made 30 minutes ago when I was the only customer at the time. Had flavor notes of cinnamon and hazelnut advertised, but was that delivered? No. We also got the Daniel, which is a mango tea and it genuinely was the most generic fruit tea I have ever tasted. They used frozen mangos too for the fruit bits, and if they could have just taken 5 minutes out of their not busy day to defrost it, it would have made the drink a little less "let's shove random stuff together and call it a drink". I don't think it's worth it, so save your money. I'm not expecting some world class coffee- but if you can't even achieve the bare minimum then that's a problem. Would definitely recommend going to a coffee shop in North Park instead. read more

Very good! I ordered the iced caramel latte and it was very good. If I could provide any feedback, it's that the service was very slow. I had 4 orders ahead of me and it took about 15-20 mins to get my drink. There was one person making drinks and one person taking orders.
