I always make it a point to visit a Better Buzz whenever I'm in San Diego. My husband and I were staying at the Hotel del Coronado during our most recent visit and I was so glad they have a location within walking distance of the hotel. There seemed to be a good mix of both locals and tourists when we visited. I ordered an Iced Regular Banana Pudding Best Drink Ever with an extra shot ($6.69 + $1.00) and it was very tasty. I wouldn't have expected the Better Buzz in Coronado Island to have the worst avocado toast of my life. But it was. Hardly any avocado, spread thin. Chewy bread with bad flavor. Hardly any seeds! They call it the "three-seed avocado toast" What seeds? Look at old photos to see how it used to look. Now they are just ripping us all off and don't even care! It's the most simple thing but they can't make it right. Everything else is a sugar bomb or contains preserved meat. The one slightly healthy thing they have tastes horrible. Never again. Who doesn't love Better Buzz? Today I had the lavender latte . I forgot to ask for less pumps of lavender, so it was a bit sweet but very good. I came in to the Coronado location to purchase their Buzzed Coronado 4th of July shirts. They didn't disappoint. They had a great supply on hand and 20% off till July 6th. I ordered a Vanilla latte and I specifically ordered it hot, came out iced. The barista offered to switch it but I took it anyway. Was delicious actually, but very sweet. For breakfast I had the Ham and cheese croissant and added two eggs. It was really quite tasty - very rich because of the croissant. Wifey ordered the Better Breakfast - Egg bacon havarti on a pretzel bun. She loved it. A couple other MINOR issues - No ketchup for the sandwiches (is this a Cali thing?). No pepper out for the sandwiches either. This location is super chill midday, even on a sunny Monday in March. Other locations are slammed most days, but this is running at a slightly quieter pace. The coffee's awesome as always - if you don't already have their app, get on it! They offer great deals on at home brew options as well as in store offerings. Service was quick and the drink was on point. I think not being overly busy means quality control happens, unlike at some other chains, where I suspect the rotation of short term employees means everyone's learning everything all at once. If you enjoy some upbeat music with your caffeine, this location has the beachy, pop vibe going on. Cons: I would not recommend the "orange matcha" -- it is not good. The drink itself is made of coconut milk, matcha and "orange" but I couldn't taste the orange at all. The matcha is also pre made as opposed to traditionally whisked but the drink was mostly coconut milk. I brought the drink back to the barista and asked if it's usually that light of a color (mostly milk and barely any matcha) she said yes but offered to add more matcha. Even after I still couldn't taste the matcha. The coconut milk is overpowering and their matcha is not something I would order again. Pros: The coffee drink "best drink ever" was good. There is plenty of interior seating and some outdoor as well. They even sell their coffee beans and merch inside. I would try more of their coffee options but not their matcha again. read more
