Randomly landed on this place while scrolling through yelp for a place to eat at. Located in a small strip by other restaurants and stores. It was a little quiet when we got here with only a couple other tables around 5 pm. Place is a little older looking. The menus are old so the price is not updated. They even place a piece of paper to say price may differ from menu so if you really want to know how much something is, check. All of our dishes and drinks were more than menu price. This location has decent lassi for my liking. I did enjoy the mango more than strawberry. The food came out within reasonable time given that it wasn't busy. All of the dishes were delish and nothing to complain about. They were all flavorful. I honestly recommend all of the dishes we got. I did not enjoy the lamb curry because I'm not a lamb person and it def has the lamb aftertaste. Service was great. Please spend the money and update the menu, especially they are more than a dollar increase so customers can plan appropriate. read more

We ordered takeout on a Saturday, online ordering said it would be ready in 15 minutes. This was not the case, it was more like 40 minutes. Not ideal when you have a hungry toddler waiting in the car. No ambiance inside, really could use brighter lights (it was dim), some cleaning, decor and music. The place feels tired. Service was also lacking, did not receive a welcome and many people were just waiting there and had to approach the host stand (which is also at what appears to be the bar area?) Now to the food. Chana masala was good. Chicken tikka was fine, nothing special. Rice was fine but we received more like 1-1.5 portions of it instead of 2 (for the 2 entrees). It was very bad 7 years ago. I decided to give it another try and was pleasantly surprised that the food wasn't bad. I came back 3 weeks later today and wow they sure dropped the bomb.. Service was very slow, waitress did not know the menu. My friend ordered a bainban Bharta and asked for it to be mild, it came out very spicy and not tasty whatsoever it was like it came from a can. I ordered malai Kofta medium spice and it came out with no spice and overloaded with cardamom to the point it tasted like soap. The restrooms were filthy and the hallways narrow because it was lined with chairs. no toilet paper and feces on the toilet seat. When we complained of the food no offer of fixing it was offered. Okay. This place used to be a great friendly place to come for Indian. Their food can be a hit and miss, probably depending on the cook that day. They have great Biriyani most of the time, but again, they are not very consistent. Okay, i usually order online and so far they seem to have gotten things right, but when you place your order over the phone. That's when problems arises. Two times I've ordered over the phone and they got my order incorrect. The first time I ordered chicken and lamb biriyani...I got only lamb. The second time I ordered 2 orders of goat biriyani and a chicken...guess what, the guy that took the order argued and said I only ordered 1 goat. Umm, excuse me? I would know how many I ordered because I confirmed it twice. I would have accepted sorry I only caught one order over the phone, sometimes it's hard to hear. I would have accepted that. I even tried to offer that as an option but he kept going at nope, you ordered only 1. Okay, that's okay. I've been coming here for years and from now on, NEVER again. I don't care if your food is the best in Minnesota, but when you disregard your customers and belittle them for your own misunderstanding and miscommunication...umm, yeah, no...that's not okay. I did email them but never heard back. That is why I've added my review to this place. Overall, I would say this place usually will get a solid 3, but 1 star and maybe even a 0 for customer service. My first experience here for Lunch with a Friend, he recommended it, an had been there before. I'm a Fan of Indian cuisine an , because I had only one entree, it was the Curry Bone in Goat, with rice... $14.00, Naan $4? an Appetizer was excellent $6 which was medium heat, well within my heat tolerance, an it was excellent, a 5 star item. Very good service Albeit only people there for lunch. The Ambience was a 3.5, but typical of a Restaurant in a Mall space, Bathroom was just ok an could use attention. The paneer dish literally tasted like a tomato bisque from Panera and I asked about spice level and went with a medium heat.. it tasted zero percent spicy, not even a little and the 'spice' on the next photo was awful, and not spicy at all either. They were understaffed on a Labor Day Weekend. Restrooms were filthy. Food was OK. They use short grain instead of basmati rice-- different than almost every Indian restaurant I've been to in the USA. Had garlic naan (good), malai kofta (very good), palak paneer (meh) spiced according to directions. Portions were good, but I wasn't compelled to take my palak paneer leftovers home. Food was fresh and took a while to make and deliver; it wasn't served all at once, coming now and then. We're not compelled to return. read more

I've been to some dirty run down restaurants, but this one will stick with me. If you're into cold bland food, extra crispy naan, and needing to get essentials yourself (water, utensils, ect), this may be okay for you. I also recommend considering where the nearest restroom is outside of the restaurant. The lack of toilet paper, paper towels, and the lack of any sort of sanitary surfaces didn't make anything easier with the stomach ache I immediately got. My fiancé picked up take out for us on a Friday night and even when he got home the food was still hot. The naan (both soft and had some toast to it) , samosas, and chutney were all delicious. We also got the pepper chicken that had just the smallest bit of spice and the coconut curry, both very tasty. Their customer service is absolutely trash! The guys in the front seemed clueless and absolutely confused about any inquiries and flat out shared, this is my first day so I don't know anything. Why is a business throwing resources at their front counter without any training boggles my mind. While I was waiting in line, the customer ahead of me, her order was completely lost and the guys were adamant that they never received them where the lady was sharing that she called herself and here is the confirmation that the restaurant shared. My turn came and I asked for a substitute from lamb to chicken and the guy was like I don't know how to do that on the computer where he places the orders. I just walked out as the entire operation seemed it was lacking training and customer service skills. I was really looking forward to trying this place as I've never ate here before. I came here with family and had kids of great food and service. We started with veggie samosas which came with a couple chutneys. The samosas tasted flavorful and they were packed with fillings. We shared some biryani, lamb curry and butter chicken with garlic naan. Everything tasted amazing and the spice was perfect for me. I got medium and it has a definite kick so be prepared. They give you an extra bowl of spice sauce and a cooling cucumber sauce as well in case the heat is too much. The garlic naan was definitely enough for 4 people and it tasted flavorful and fluffy. We went to Bay Leaf for Valentine's Day. It smelled amazing, and there were only 5 tables full, so we figured we wouldn't have a long wait. We were so wrong! After being seated and given water and menus, we waited and waited for someone to come and take our order. We were not the only ones waiting. They seemed to take care of take out people before those dining in. We got up and left after waiting for 20 minutes. The service and food were excellent! I was in with a larger group. I tried the Boneless Chicken Biryani- Medium. The chicken was moist. My husband had the Chicken Tikka Masala-Medium. My kids split the Butter Chicken. It was all delicious. I was also able to try a bite of the Paneer Masala and Mehki Paneer. The flavors in the sauce- so good! We also had some of their Naan. The only issue we had was there was no ice in the water and the AC was set really high or just not on. It felt cooler outside - 80 degrees in the summer evening. I was craving Indian cuisine and this place was close to my hotel so I gave them a shot. I was doing the shooting but they missed the mark. How does that work? I really wanted some aloo saag. I asked the girl on the phone if I could get it vegan. She seemed perplexed by the word. In the end, they either could not or would not make a vegan aloo saag. That was disappointing. I settled for Gobi Manchurian. I didn't care for it. It wasn't as crispy as I like and the flavor was...different. I also couldn't figure out why the dish wasn't hot; instead it was just lukewarm. I can understand food tastes being a matter of personal preference. Bad service, however, is inexcusable. 1. No matter how many times I told the older male gentleman server to please leave my mango lassi be, he kept coming by before our food arrived to ask if he should remove it. The lassi wasn't great. I've had worse, but those were clearly reconstituted from powder. This wasn't bad, just mediocre. Regardless, I have a habit of leaving an inch or two of lassi for an after-meal treat so I'm not ordering a second dose of sugar for it. Once the diner asks to leave it alone the first time, try respecting that and stop coming back to ask about it when it hasn't even moved one bit. Ironically, once I gave up on dining and finished my lassi as my Irishman forced himself to eat, no one came to take the now-empty glass away, even when it was pushed to the far corner to join the abandoned dining attempt of josh. 2. The items were ordered at spice level of "none" to accommodate one "not a spicy meatball" Irishman. We had specifically verified with the female server wearing eyeglasses who was taking our order that neither dish would be even remotely spicy. Both dishes came out decidedly not un-spicy. One of the two was spicy enough, in fact, that we set it on the far corner of the table to not be touched again. The other one, my Irishman braved while downing both our glasses of water, since the table stopped getting water refills entirely after food arrived. I opted out of eating entirely, choosing instead to wait until the end of the meal to head for India Palace with a to-go order of chicken curry that my Irishman gladly helped himself to as well after packing up the remainder of the saag he didn't care for regardless of the spice level. Yup. I left an Indian restaurant to get Indian food elsewhere. It was that disappointing. 3. The naan was more bread-like than the expected chew of good, fresh naan. We've gone on naan dates where we literally walked through a city to at least three Indian spots to grab naan to share while walking to the next naan spot, so we're not exactly strangers to naan. 3. Not one server stopped by the table to check between serving the food and returning at the end of the meal to deliver the check. No water refill, no checking on the quality of the food, and certainly no one checking on the dish that had curiously made its way to the far corner of the table. I could have flagged someone. Given us not caring for the saag, the disappointing naan, and my mediocre lassi, I didn't feel need to have the josh replaced to try anything further. I had suggested that we try this new spot, and both of us were disappointed by what we experienced both in food and service, so no need. Maybe they were experiencing an off day. Had someone bothered to notice, sure, we would have given the menu a second chance. As it stood, I had no inclination to, thanks. Oh well. My Irishman felt bad that he didn't get to enjoy a nice Indian meal with me, until he realized after we got to the car and I got on the phone with India Palace that I already had a plan B in motion. We salvaged our Indian date night over a movie, and all was well. We missed good Indian food so much, in fact, that we returned to India Palace two days later for a date redo. I went with a recommendation by the server for a chicken dish that was on the creamy side (I don't recall the name of the actual dish). It was similar to butter chicken. It was delicious. I placed our order at 5:30 pm on a Saturday through yelp with an estimated time of pickup of 6:30 pm but the order was not actually ready till 7 pm. I guess they were short-staffed. So make sure to place your order earlier. It was a bit tough on the kids since they are not used to eating later. They were hungry The food was actually pretty decent. Paneer makhani, Matar paneer, chicken tikka, chicken tikka Masala, butter chicken, vegetable samosas, naan, garlic naan and palak paneer. So we had 4 main dishes and the rest were appetizers. Everything was a mild flavor but that in the eye of the Indian restaurant doesn't mean a thing. Hahah. It was still a bit spicy but bearable. I can't imagine what spicy actually tastes like. The first week we moved here, we tried Bay Leaf and left underwhelmed. Boy am I glad we decided to give them another try. Last night we ordered a delicious feast from their EXTENSIVE menu. We started with the Gobi Manchurian which is cauliflower with a tangy sweet red sauce and the Mulliga Tawny soup. This is a vegetarian soup with a deep savory taste that my husband was literally drinking out of the container. For entrees, we ordered a trio of Palak paneer, Bhindi masala, and Chicken hyderabadi- all to share. Each entree came with basmati rice on the side and we supplemented our order with a Garlic naan. Everything was so delicious. The Palak was spicy and creamy from the cheese. The Bhindi (okra) was also creamy, but in a totally different way and so flavorful. The chicken was my personal favorite with the perfect level of heat and other spices (they customize the dishes to your preferred level of heat). The naan was soft, buttery and garlicy- yum! We called our order in for pick up, but you can also order on their website for ease. The lady inside was super courteous when I picked it up and very thankful for our large order. This was my first experience with Indian food, but it will be on my list to repeat. We all had Biryani dishes. I ordered the Chicken, my sister had the Lamb and my niece had the Shrimp. We all enjoyed the dishes and had enough to for a second meal. The spice level of mild was hot enough for me. We had my wonderful flat bread called Naan that everyone loved. This has been one of our favorites for several years now. I ordered door dash a couple weeks ago. One of the items we had was two orders of butter chicken. This has always been fabulous from Bay Leaf. When I got our order, both containers of the butter chicken were swimming in grease. Literally a layer of grease floating on top of the sauce. They also had absolutely no flavor whatsoever and it was by far the worst butter chicken I have ever had. This makes me very sad because theirs has always been the best around. A group of us decided to go there for Saturday during lunch. We ordered the chicken tikki masala, butter chicken, lamb curry and an appetizer. The chicken tikki masala lacked flavor and the chicken was dry. The other dishes were ok - maybe a 3 star out of 5. The service was weird and far from 5 stars. First, when they brought out the entree the first time - it wasn't our ordered - so the guy came back and grabbed it and put it on the correct table. This didn't happen once - but twice. We were confused by that. Second, rarely did he come and asked us if we needed anytime else like water (they do not have icy - fyi). Finally, the worst of it came when we got the check. The check is on a handheld device that the waitor hand. So it's not an actual paper receipt where you write your tip in. So we asked to view it, which he scrolled very quickly up so we saw the charge - which seemed right given the amount of entrees we got. Not once did the waiter til us with a group of six that a service charge (tip) would automatically be charged and that wasn't on the handheld device with the receipt when we viewed it. So we told him to add tip onto there for the service. We're pretty nice and we're all about supporting businesses and especially during these times. We asked for a printed copy and then notice then realize there was a service charge plus the tip! We asked him about it and he claim to of told us about the service charge. But he didn't. There was six of us and none of us recalled that. So we asked him to refund the amount- which he said he couldn't. You know that's a lie. Any business can refund via cash or cancel the transaction and redo it. So we called for the manager who told us the same crap! Finally after much debate - he said - alright we can get a refund and it would show up the following day (caught in a lie - since he first told us he couldn't refund us). Guess what? The refund never happen nor a phone call from the owner. Their customer service is horrible and the business practice is unethical. Take your money and tummy elsewhere. Attach is the receipt to prove the service charge with the tip. read more

My boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with the lamb chops here. He has written songs about his love for their lamb chops. Their garlic naan is delicious and fresh. We've also tried to chicken tikka masala which is tasty, though pretty standard. On my next trip, I'll be trying the tandoori chicken. Disclaimer: Indian Zayka was a favorite haunt of mine. The owners provided outstanding customer service that created strong customer loyalty in the south metro compared to other competing establishments in the area. So, when I heard they would be selling their business I was disappointed. However, Bay Leaf has stepped in and, although it's early days yet, will seemingly carry the baton of reasonably priced and tasty Indian cuisine respectably. Side note: This is Bay Leaf's second location (the other being in Eden Prairie). My order was for takeout today. When I got there the person at checkout was polite but not overly helpful. To be fair, I think he had just taken another order and it's only been their first few days open. A lady stopped by from the kitchen who seemed to be more familiar with the take out process and was super friendly. They might want to consider keeping her front of house during these early days in Eagan. Engaging with customers seemed to come more naturally for her than it did for him. My order was fairly tame - butter chicken, naan, and veggie samosas. Portions were fair to generous for each as well as for the basmati rice accompanying the meal. I asked for the chicken to be very spicy but it was mild even by Minnesota standards. So, my assessment is definitely good enough to try again but not convincing enough to say I'll become a regular. At least not yet. If the customer service today - although adequate - was any indication, there's a significant miss for those of us who are testing the waters with Bay Leaf right now. read more
