I love this place - small, unassuming, been here forever, has everything and more! I brought in an under-the-counter lightbulb from a fixture dated at least a few decades old! There were no visible markings on this 7" bulb, and I wasn't going to take it into a Home Depot or Lowe's to find a replacement (they'd probably have to special-order it for me). The guy at the counter took one look at it, disappeared into the back and returned with its replacement! I laughed; we laughed - I was relieved not to have to change out the entire fixture! On a side note, one of the great things about this place is that they accept lightbulbs for recycling. I have been coming here for quite a while doing this (the big retailers don't do that anymore), and recently switched out all of my fluorescent bulbs for LED ones in the garage and kitchen. Spring cleaning time and found a ton of CFL bulbs I want to recycle. Santa Clara city online has Bay Lighting a recycle station. Dropped in and dropped off with no problems. While there I asked how to upgrade my CFL ceiling cans to regular type screw in bulbs. He gave me a break down of what I need to do and what exactly to buy. When I'm ready to change out these 6 cans in my kitchen I'll be coming back for the right stuff. I love these local places that specialize in one thing. They know exactly what is needed. I swear I wrote a review a couple of years ago on Bay Lighting. This is an old school Business at El Camino & Lafyette, staffed by the same guys each time I go. Love it! They are electrical gurus and you always walk away feeling enlightened (pun intentional!). I make a trip over here before my electrican visits, he gives me shopping list and I run into Bay Lighting Supply, iin and out in a flash :). The building is an old feed store, a vestige of Silicon Valley's agricultural past. There is no glitzy merchandising but they have the goods. Don't let the warehouse ambiance trick you into thinking the old school ambiance = old product knowledge. They offer the latest lighting solutions. This a a place where both master elecricians and clueless homeowners like myself feel comfortable. There are 2 Home Depot's, 2 OSH and 1 Lowes within 5 miles of our house. I happily bypass all of them on my way to Bay Lighting. Hopefully the feed store is a protected building and cannot be redeveloped. And to those complaining about no AC; If the guys working there can handle it you can . Suck it up! It's not Nordstrom. read more

These guys have the biggest selection of light bulbs I have seen at any store. The products they carry are quality, especially SATCO incadescent bulbs, which worked better with my dimmer than the GE ones I got at home depot. They are very knowledgeable, and gladly share their opinions about different bulb options and emerging technologies (CFL, LED). They will help you find bulbs that match your lumen output, color temperature, and power needs. They also are a distributor for my favorite track lighting manufacturer (WAC lighting). I needed a replacement 6" circular fluorescent bulb (FC6 T9 4-pin) for a ceiling fixture. Stores like Home Depot and Lowe's don't carry these, so it was Yelp-or-bust time. I called Bay Lighting Supply as well as Batteries N Bulbs. Bay Lighting Supply had the better price ($7 vs $11) but a poorer selection (cool white in stock, but warm white out of stock) and less helpful customer service. The location seems super sketchy... next door there's a bunch of truck bed liners for sale in the parking lot. Kind of regretted not going to Batteries N Bulbs instead (despite the price difference). read more

Came here to get a bulb replacement for one of my lamps. I didn't know what kind of bulb it was and the lamp label was faded so I had no information on why type it was. Luckily I saw this place while getting food at Jack in the Box. I stopped in and was immediately greeted. The employee was busy helping someone else, but told me that he will be right with me. When he was done helping the other customer, I gave him the bulb and he knew exactly what it was. Gave me the bulb and asked if there was anything else that he can help me out with. Worst experience ever. In any customer service situation I have ever encountered. I barely stepped in the door before I was barked at. They don't sell glass. Fine. I wasn't there for glass. Next he says, no I have nothing for that. Ok. Also fine. But why be so damn rude and unhelpful?? You didn't even try to seek information. Bay Lighting had the best price for a hard-to-find, fluorescent light bulb for an undercounter light. (The T5 bulb is less than an inch in diameter and about 30" long, warm color.) Good service. They ordered the bulb and received it the next day. They're open Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00. Their price is $8.95. I paid $20 in Cupertino last year. A store in Sunnyvale charges $20, and another in Palo Alto charges $15. read more

These guys saved the day!!! I was in a real pinch when I was left stranded after ordering bulbs online. The company I ordered from online didn't notify that they back ordered their bulbs and I found this out two days before a major event we were hosting. After a quick search I called Bay Lighting Supply and they talked me through all my bulb options, thoroughly explained why I should choose a bulb of different wattage to avoid a fire hazard, and expedited my order of 100+ bulbs to the next day for no extra cost. We recently renovated our kitchen and I got all our lights from Bay Lighting supply. The folks here were absolutely patient and walked me thru the various options w.r.t light temperatures so I could chose the lights I was most happy with. They also reviewed my floor plan and though the contractor had said 6 bulbs would suffice they gave me an additional two - just in case. Sure enough , we needed 7 and it saved me a trip to buy an extra light. We placed orders for 4" lights and they needed to order these in. they called as soon the lights arrived on a day they were "officially" closed ! Returning the extra light after a few months when the kitchen work was done was also absolutely painless. Will definitely recommend them ! read more

If you want friendly, knowledgeable service, this place is for you. If you want to wander aimlessly around a giant box store, it is not. If you want to wander aisles at all, it's still probably not - instead, you wait at the counter and the gentleman there will get what you need out of the rows for you. I buy Seagull Lighting bulbs here which are exactly what my fixture had originally. They are cheaper here than buying a generic alternative at the only other store that carries them in this area. If I call, they don't mind looking up stuff, they don't charge extra for getting something that's not in stock and they don't mind setting a few bulbs so that nobody else will buy them from under me. David and Rob are the best! These guys really know their stuff, not like the guys that you find at the big box retail stores. We did a home construction and decided that we would purchase all of the lighting supply for the contractor so we could control the cost and merchandise better. Not being a contractor ourselves, we knew absolutely nothing about the types of fixtures to purchase, pros/cons of LED lights, what we needed to meet Title 24 regulations, etc. These guys really educated me on what I really needed to buy and what I didn't. They were always looking out for me, the customer, and not out to make a buck. I even brought my architectural drawings in for them to review with me and they helped me cut back on the number of recessed lights that I needed. The project is now done and everything that they recommended was spot on. After visiting them over several months, I really got to know them quite well. David, the store manager, knew me on a first name basis and was always there to help. This is one of those rare stores that truly delivers on GREAT customer service and prices. You would think that getting all of this would cost you more, but it doesn't. Their store is very unassuming - no flashy displays, expensive deadweight to cover, etc. And if they don't have something in stock, they can easily order it for you. We had been searching for a good economical under cabinet lighting fixture for our kitchen remodel project. David showed us several options and we found a great LED linkable low-voltage light bar here that fit our needs perfectly. It looked to be more sturdy than a tape light but much more economical and sleeker in form factor than a traditional under cabinet fixture. David set us up with all of the lights, connectors and transformer that we would need for our project. It's a supply store, so there's not much in the way of a showroom, but service (and pricing) is the same whether you're a contractor or a regular retail consumer like us with little knowledge about lights. We also came back later to swap out a few lights to fit our revised cabinet layout - no problem. Very very happy we found Bay Lighting Supply. It's never a problem exchanging or returning anything that I bought but didn't work out, even for special order light bulbs. Bay Lighting, my 3rd or 4th phone call, had what I needed at less than 1/2 the price I'd been quoted at the other places I'd called. I've been there ever since. I was looking for outdated and very hard to find hardware. A black light. They only had half of what I needed. Then they pulled a rabbit out of a hat and found an alternative and even gave me a price break because the stuff I bought was not going to be that useful for them going forward. One of the lights in our kitchen had gone out and my husband was trying to figure out what type of bulbs they were, well he checked some of the other overhead lights in the kitchen and they were all different. Our lights have dimmer switches so he assumed they needed to be special bulbs. He went to OSH and spent almost $100! I happened to look for a bulb place and came across this place, which is also very close to home. So I told him to go check out this place and see what they have, this was due to the reviews I read about this place. Not only did I save my husband over $60 dollars, the person he spoke with said it is not necessary to use special bulbs for the dimmers you can you regular ones and it saved us a huge amount of money. Of course OSH told him it had to be the special bulbs, which of course cost a lot more. Thank you so much for your reviews, it totally made a huge difference for us! Great little shop in my neighborhood for all my lighting needs. Have been in there several times for this and that and some advice when adding Lights to my home. Went in today with a burned out Halogen bulb that had no indication on wattage, Fluorescent Tube and a question about a yellowing trim ring that did not match the rest of my lights. 5 mins + $22 and all my issues were solved. I will continue to support this little gem at the end of my street. read more

David the owner is really helpful. We purchased halo retrofit recessed light at Lowes and also the lutron LED dimmer recommended by Lowes ($29). After install the recessed light, we hear light humming or buzz on our recessed light. I asked online and people said they have tried several and only up to the $70 dimmer solve the buzz problem. I went to Lowes and they don't know anything about it. I asked Halo, they said all compatible dimmer are listed on their spec sheets which includes Lutron Diva $29 one. I told them there is buzz problem and they don't know how to solve it. I asked Lutron support and they don't know anything either. Lutron told me basically there is nothing you can do. I am glad I found this store on Lutron website and based on review I called Bay Lighting. David is very helpful and willing to ask all my questions. He said I will need the switch which has the white wire neutral wire to eliminate the buzz. His price is also very reasonable same as Amazon for the switch I purchased. So if you are local, please support these small business. They are very helpful as to select the product and they deserve more business. read more
