This was a great find! We were driving past Sausalito and needed some breakfast so we decided to stop in here on our way to Muir Woods for a little hike. We loved the atmosphere. In my opinion it was definitely not a touristy place. It reminded me of my grandparents' quiet hometown diner where the waiters all knew who you were... Husband and I ordered the all in one omelette. I was trying to figure out how I could order just one pancake (instead of the short stack of 3), but when the waiter took our order, he asked us if we wanted toast, english muffin or one pancake with the omelette, Perfect! I had read some solid reviews for this place for breakfast so we gave it a try. We got there about 930 and were seated with no wait. However after being seated and ordering our food we were asked to get up and change tables. No explanation was given which was both disturbing as well as unprofessional- When our meals came they did not bring the toast and when we asked for the toast they sent it to our table "dry". Again no explanation. The food was nothing special and our entire experience was bad enough that we will not return. read more

I've been here probly 10 times since moving to MV in the mid 90's and I love the breakfast goods and the breakfast green-engine juice. The staff gets overwhelmed on a Sat a.m., so do freak out if you have to wait 20 min for your food and 20 for your table. The staff is really nice even if you have to circle around for parking a couple of times. I had the Bay Big Bang (something like that): waffle, 2 big ol bangers, and really super way too over easy eggs. I would say this time the back kitchen was not on their game, but I like the place for what it is, old skool breakfast in a land of high-fallutin food. read more

I met up with a small group of friends to fuel up for a hike in the Marin Headlands. Bayside Cafe is located in the small strip mall right off the freeway with free parking available in the surrounding lots. Bayside is located next to a bike shop and near a laundromat. On a Sunday morning, the cafe filled up fast. In addition to the main dining area there is also seating available in the covered patio area out back. The menu is pretty extensive with a large variety of options for omelettes, pancakes, french toast, egg dishes, juices, smoothies and coffee beverages. They also offer specials that are posted at the entrance. There are plenty of options for vegetarians as well as carnivores. I ordered the spinach, mushroom, avocado and cheese omelette, with hash browns, whole wheat toast and a cup of coffee. The portion size was generous, to put it mildly. The omelette was moist and fluffy and bursting with vegetables. The hash browns were made of crisp, shredded potatoes. Our beverages were refilled without any prompting and all of our orders came was requested (yup, we can be a picky bunch). Service with a smile. Bayside Cafe will be added to my list of options for brunch in Marin, hike or no hike. The patrons looked to be mostly made up of locals from the surrounding area. Parking is relatively easy and the location is easy to access. Prices are very reasonable for what we received. It will take many visits to get through that extensive menu. read more

Cute little diner-style cafe in Sausalito. Bayside Cafe is not on the main drag of this town's tourist scene, so I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. However, if you are hungover north of the Golden Gate and want to cower in a corner where no one can see you (or if you're with young children....or hey, ALL OF THE ABOVE!), this is the place! The menu is extensive; almost a bit overwhelming. I would recommend examining the menu dish by dish and ponder which combination of breakfast or lunch will best satisfy you. The bloody mary's are cheap (pretty sure it's a weekend special) and the coffee flows like the river of life. I was especially impressed with the blueberry pancakes, because the berries were actually baked into the batter (not sitting on top of the dish like a glop of jelly). When walking into this place, you might not expect much. However, the above par breakfast and excellent service is sure to impress. read more

Tourist Trap diner Overpriced for the typical breakfast items. One server who was clearly overworked, as we heard her say she had worked two weeks in a row. Corned beef hash was clearly out of a can despite the fact the server said it was made in house. Omelet was more of an over stuffed egg taco with all the add ins falling out. No table tap until we were mostly done with our food. Didn't give me small change to make sure we left a bigger tip. The food was tasty, neither bland or over spiced. We never had to raise a finger - The menu is like reading a chapter of the Bible - Maybe I was drunk, but I think I had the best glass of milk here of my life *Cons* - Homely interior feels like time traveling to a 90's Dennys - Though the menu is massive the TYPES of food served is a little limited. It's 9000 varieties of pancakes, 9000 varieties of eggs, etc. - Coffee was a little weak sauce by my snobby coffee standards - Don't expect a breathtaking view of Sausalito. At best you'll be looking at some funny looking boat houses, cute ducks, and muddy water. For the price you can't do much better than Bayside Cafe. I'd return in a heart beat. I was very excited to try this place based on all of the great reviews I had read. The place was pretty packed but we were seated immediately, which is great. We were attended to pretty fast, coffee was mediocre. We ordered our food and sat there chatting. About five minutes in, we get asked to move to a different table. No reason. I didn't take this personal as I thought maybe they has someone with a wheel chair. Nope, nothing, they sat a family with a child. This is fine but they should have asked us if we wanted to move and the reason. This definitely left a bad taste for me. Once the food got there it was OK. definitely not something to write home about. The eggs were a bit cold, the ham was very fatty (not into foods with that much fat). They also forgot to bring our toasts, we had to ask for them twice. Our water glasses and coffee went empty for a quite some time. I could not wait to get out of there. First and only time I will be making a visit to this establishment. Maybe they were just having an off day?? read more

I really, really, really wish that I could rate this place better, but I can't. The restaurant had a weird vibe. All the other patrons in the restaurant were senior citizens which would have been okay with me except that I had the feeling that, in the waitress' eyes, I was the punk that did NOT belong I was attended to by both a blonde female waitress and a hispanic male waiter. The waiter was polite and normal while the waitress watched me like a hawk. Within a few minutes after placing my meal on my table, the blonde waitress gave me the receipt (before I had even taken a bite of the chicken and despite the fact that I was working on paperwork which should have been an indicator that I was planning to stay awhile). Figuring that, by the way she watched me like I was planning to steal something but did not SERVE me (she didn't try to refill my water or check on me), I decided to pay the check quickly, along with my usual 20% tip, thinking that it would put her at ease. It did get her to stop watching me (in fact, she ignored me completely afterward) but I still felt like the "outsider" in the restaurant. It's a shame though. My current lifestyle requires that I eat out EVERY day and, when you eat out a lot like me, you get to missing simple, healthy dishes that you normally eat at home. I had the chicken with zucchini, carrots and cottage cheese along with a juice blend (can't remember which juice I tried but do recall that it was beet juice based). I have to admit that if I didn't eat out alot, I would find the meal just average (I tend to prefer more indulgent meals when I rarely eat out) but since I do eat out alot, the meal really hit the spot. Because I felt SOOO uncomfortable there, I wouldn't go back, despite the fact that I have to frequent Sausalito in the near future and the restaurant is located in a convenient, on-the-way spot. I was so uncomfortable there that I quickly ate my meal and left despite the fact that my appointment was 45 minutes away and I still needed to burn some time. I ended up driving to Starbucks and sipped on some coffee for a few minutes to waste some time. Below is a summary of my impression: 1) FOOD: Average. Loved the fact that they have healthy options though (such as veggie juices and low cal dishes). Would be a great place for someone who yearns for something that is simple but not a go-to spot if you are seeking something more indulgent. The breakfasts appear to have more indulgent options then the lunch menu. 2) SERVICE: I suspect that the service is great for the older patron but be prepared to be treated like a hoodlum if you're under 60. read more

We loved this little gem we found while in San Fransisco for the first time. We stayed in Tiburon but this place was easy to get to. We ate breakfast here 3 times. The wait staff was very attentive, our water glasses were never empty nor our coffee. I appreciated how they all seemed to help each other out by checking on the tables and helping to bring food to the table, filling drinks. We had omelets, French toast, pancakes, eggs etc. I loved the French toast special, a lot of food to fill you up so that you don't need lunch. The last morning they ran out of the bread they use for French toast and we were perfectly fine to switch to pancakes but they felt bad and brought us an "appetizer" of mini crepes and fresh fruit. Very sweet. Everyone here was very friendly to us East Coasters in California for the first time. Maybe someday we will be able to come back. Great job! read more

Bayside has definitely earned a top spot on my list of places that do huevos rancheros right! Perfectly cooked eggs layered on top of perfectly cooked black beans on top of corn tortillas. And served with extra flour tortillas on the side. Definitely my idea of complete breakfast happiness. The menu here is extensive for a diner, hopefully I will branch out beyond the huevos in the future, but who am I kidding. Apparently they also do a great breakfast combo (bacon/eggs/french toast). Actually, I think the words I heard used were "perfect french toast". Bayside is a cozy, welcoming diner and the staff is very friendly. They also have plenty of tv's if you go there hoping to watch a game. It's worth going out of your way to seek this place out. I went there today with my disabled, adult son. We were greeted right away, and seated soon after. Then we waited and waited to be asked for our drink or food order. The people behind us were asked what drinks they wanted as they were being seated. I had to get her to take our order. Strike one. We then were served water without asking for it; a big no no during a drought. I had to get someone's attention again to place our order. The drinks came. I had asked for peppermint tea. She brought green tea, which is so weak it should be ashamed to be called tea. Also, tea needs boiling hot water to steep. The water was so barely warm, I stuck my finger in the pot of water and realized it was colder than my shower that morning. I asked for replacement tea and the correct type was brought along with barely warm water, again. Strike two. I asked for one of there vegetarian scrambles to be made as an omelette. When I received the bill later, I saw that she did put it down correctly, so it was the cook who made that error. . I did not receive an omelette. Strike three. I must say, my son's smoothie and pancakes must have been good, as were my hash browns. The rest was edible, but forgetful. read more

As a Sausalito resident, I am always in search of good food at reasonable prices. One negative thing about living in Sausalito is that prices can often be inflated due to all the tourist traffic. The Bayside Cafe is awesome! My girlfriend and I go here all the time and we always recommend it to people as a great alternative to the constantly packed, "Fred's". Bayside has ample seating, great food, great service, and is situated right next to the famous Sausalito houseboats! Came here with a large group and they were able to accommodate us at lunch on Sunday rather quickly. Whats great about this place is that there's something for everyone. Breakfast is served all day and there's even a juice bar and a large selection of ice cream. There's also a few flat screen TV's with the game on. Service was great. With the restaurant being somewhat busy we got our food with in 10 minutes of ordering. Everything was delicious! The fries (or potato wedges were good) and I ordered the "bringing home the bacon scramble". I was a little disappointed on how small this dish was (it looked like they only used one egg) but it was still really good. We got our kids some pan cakes and it was really good. If I were to come back again, I would go for a hot sandwich as some of the folks in our group got them and they looked good and hearty.
