My friends and I tried Bayview Kitchen for the first time this weekend, and we already have plans to go back. The food was beautiful and SO good! Highly recommend the calypso fries and the chicken and waffles, but everything else we had was amazing too, so you can't really go wrong! They are taking many precautions against COVID, so we all felt very safe and comfortable while we were there. I would call and make a reservation beforehand, as we had to wait a little while. I dined at Bayview Kitchen tonight and I must say that the food and the staff were unbelievable. I started with the wings which were glazed with a delicious Sorrel BBQ Sauce. I didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised at the sweet bbq sauce. From there I ordered the fried Snapper that came with creamy mash potatoes and 3 sweet plantains. The Snapper was lightly fried and was extremely fresh. My friend ordered the Ackee Nd Saltfish Empanadas and loved them. They have a Happy Hour and I ordered the White Sangria which had a lot of small pieces of fresh fruit. Our waitress Jasmine was great she gave honest advice on what to order and was patient while we decided. I have to include the shots which were gorgeous to look at but real tasty. This review is NOT about the food as we didn't get to taste any of it... I Can't believe that in NY, in this day and age, I'd experience Reverse Discrimination. If not discrimination, than they are truly in trouble because of Hospitality or the lack thereof. We're Spanish, Wife and I went on a Saturday afternoon, after a glowing recommendation from a Black friend of mine. We love Soul food, and were looking forward to Chicken and Waffles and Shrimp and Grits. There were only 8 people in the restaurant (6 Black, and another Spanish couple). Right from entering, we were TOLD To "Sit Down in the Waiting Area" when we didn't do as told he yells "You can't block the doorway" (As if there was a stampede of people going in and out... NOT!) There were About 12 Tables, 2 taken, Many with "Reserved" signs on them. They could have at least said, grab a table of your liking. Nevertheless, we sat there for about 10 Minutes and the waiter just kept doing other things but tend to us. After about 10 Minutes, we gave them 5 more Minutes (Benefit of the doubt to the inexperience of the waiter) This, My 1st ever review written, is more of a heads up to the owner. If the Tall Brother, that was in Charge on Saturday March 5, around noon, is the owner, You're in Trouble! If it was about Color, Green should be the only color you see. Take a look at Brownstone, coffee house (Where we ended up at), 25 minute wait, because they are packed. they're Chicken and waffles were delicious and only $13.99 as opposed to your $21 C&W. What a cool little unassuming spot. Attentive staff, very clean and ample parking. Now the food, been here this past Sunday for brunch and again today for an early breakfast, before some business in the area. My Sunday brunch with my wife was avocado toast, killer good and shrimp and grits, juicy flavored and seasoned right shrimps, perfect consistency for the grits, made for a delicious brunch. Not to mention very good coffee. But my favorite of all was the porridge. A creamy, I think corn based grits, sweetened perfectly with I think honey. Could not imagine it being any better. Today, I was first person in for an early breakfast, as they were still setting up for day. Breakfast was just right, eggs sausage and toast with potatoes seasoned great. Again, I couldn't pass on the porridge, which, i had as an appetizer. yes a breakfast appetizer of porridge, simply best I ever had. I came to this place with out knowing anything, took a chance and glad I did. Kick ass food, that you just know who ever is cooking it is a trained chef, or has a "mom", that taught them how to "do it right." Greeted with big smiles, I thought the chef was gonna pick me up and toss me in the air like a toddler he was so welcoming. Couldn't decide on a wing flavor so my dude brought out a motherflippin' wing sampler. Like, what? Are you kidding? Go anywhere else and say "I can't decide which flavor to get" and you'll get a hip pop, a sigh and an eye roll. I literally didn't even use my teeth to eat these things, I just kissed them and said "you're a bad girl" and the meat slid right off the bone. The Jerk Sauce was so rich, sweet, salty, spicy UGH! The Sriracha Honey gave me a new lease on life. The Dry Rub made me want to call my Dad to tell him I'm gay even though I'm not, just so he could feel the same amount of emotions as I did when I ate that wing. And the Mac? Insane. I could have held a fork full over my head while standing and kept a cheese stretch. Tell your Aunt Carol to never cook Mac again because it'll make you want to go on anti-depressants after trying this stuff. She was very patient and understanding of my pickiness. I told her I was in a rush as I had to get to work, but I did want to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere rather than take it to go. Just so happens this is my best friends family's' establishment. You know how you go into a new place and you're expecting a HUGE menu. I was pleasantly surprised that the menu was quite small and simplified. The server, Jessica , was so attentive and pleasant. We placed our drink order and started off with an appetizer of course . Honey siracha (sp?) wings. Juicy and flavorful with a spicy kick. Amazing ! For my entree I decided on the coconut curry shrimp over jasmine rice , a side of plantains and a side of mac and cheese. My first bite of everything took me further and further into bliss. The mac and cheese was so cheesy and well salted. The noodles were al dente . The shrimp was supple and a very decent size. My plantains were hot and fresh but they were burnt and a bit tough. My rice was a bit too hard for my liking but once mixed with the curry sauce it softened and then I would have liked more coconut curry sauce on my plate . Those things are not enough to keep me away though. I will return to try out the rest of the menu (they serve lunch AND breakfast) and I just enjoy the ambiance of the place. It's a vibe. read more

One of the best new restaurants on the island a MUST try , my server Leanna was amazing & her service was prompt. This is my second time coming to this establishment the music set the tone while I ate my food. I have tried the shrimp & grits, I love that I don't have to travel to queen anymore for this & it's really good. Leanna made sure my food was correct both times. The second time I came I ordered the fresh fruit sundae. The fruit was sweet & fresh just as I like it. Came here on Valentine's Day with my boyfriend because we saw good reviews. I called ahead to see if there was a wait, the lady on the phone said there wasn't. So we drove out 30 minutes. My boyfriend and I got there at 1:00 expecting to have enough time to get to work on time which was 3pm, this was the only time slot we had to spend together on Valentine's Day. It took about 10 minutes to get our menus, then ordered our drinks along with food. 45 minutes later we only got water, we had ordered coffee and sprite along with that. We waited so long that we couldn't wait any longer if we wanted to eat and get to work on time so we were forced to leave. My boyfriend and I ended up having to get something quick to go and our Valentine's Day brunch was ruined. It was truly upsetting and such a waste of time. There was only one other bigger table there so it wasn't even like it was busy. I will not be coming back here, the service here really needs improvement. read more

I brought my family from Canada to try this new restaurant with me. We waited a while for the food, but we didn't mind because that meant the chefs were making the food from scratch. They had the curry shrimp, they liked it. I had the jerk salmon it wasnt giving me the Caribbean flavor that I love. The chicken was one of the best things on the menu that and the mac and cheese. We gave them a 6/10 but my cousin Loved the steak, that meal was a 10/10. I really hope they incorporate more to make it taste like its food from a Caribbeans actual kitchen. I visited for brunch and ordered the grits and shrimp. It was amazing. I also ordered a drink from the bar which was good as well. I was seated immediately. Staff was extremely friendly, however they received a 4star because it seemed very chaotic. It didn't seem as there was much order in the restaurant. I am not sure if the chaos was from short staff or staff rushing through the restaurant to attend to everyone (knocking things over, giving the wrong order, forgetting things), but either way more order is needed. I would still recommend as this is a new business and with time I am sure they can get more staff, relax a little and absolutely become a 5 star. read more

Sorry to write this but the food this time was not good at all. Two out of three of our plates sat under the heat lamp for 20 minutes while the third plate was being prepared. The food came out slightly wam. The last plate was actually wrong when it came out. The coffee cup was dirty, actually had food stuck on the inside of the cup, only to be found when some of the coffee was already drank. Not sure what happened this time. Only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because the server wasn't as good as the food they do need to improve on service maybe staff more people in the morning or train server a little better she was nice but she did take a while to put in the order and to get drinks also to bring the check she was putting on chap stick and sitting down instead of getting the check etc .
