Bb.q Chicken on Buford Highway came up frequently in reviews. The restaurant is very small, with only a few tables. You place your order at the counter, where there are many choices of fried chicken--whole or in pieces--and a variety of flavors. WINNER WINNER bb.q CHICKEN DINNER | we were craving Korean fried chicken and hadn't been to the bb.q Chicken on Buford Highway yet... so it was an easy decision to stop in for a quick dinner. There weren't many people inside around 7:45pm on a weeknight. There was one other couple dining in and another waiting for their takeout. Our food took about 30 minutes - so even though we had ordered takeout, we decided to dine in too (and ordered a beer for only $3 while we were at it) since we were so hungry by the time we got our food. If you're planning on takeout, definitely recommend ordering ahead. For two, we shared the kimchi fried rice (pro tip, add cheese!!!) and an 18 count honey garlic wings. Freshly fried, the honey garlic wings were hot sweet and savory crispy perfection. And the kimchi fried rice was spicy and cheesy (perfect for cheese pulls, see photos for reference) and I can't believe the beer was only $3 (this was pre inflation prices in 2022 lol). Gangjeong is my personal favorite flavor as it has a bit of heat and sweetness to it. The chicken is made perfectly with a satisfying crunch and bite to it. Like many of the reviews say, the wings are quite good. Good quality meat and the flavor is great for sure. Not anything that is blowing my mind, but definitely higher quality chicken wings than your average. I got the spicy Galbi flavor. However I think the price point is insanely high for what it is. In Doraville typically prices are more affordable/less inflated than other suburbs but you will not get those types of Doraville prices here. These are Midtown prices. I also got The ddeok bokki and they were good. My complaint with this one would be that the only way you can get this is as a giant bowl of them for $14. It would be nice if you could order just a side of these. It was $18 for eight chicken wings. That's over $2 for a single chicken wing, and that's crazy to me, hence the three stars read more

Upon first walking in, it doesn't seem like much of a store. The exterior is made mainly of tinted windows that have their blinds drawn and posters on the windows. The interior is kind of wood-themed. The tables are wood, there wood laminate on the floors, and the benches are wood. They just appear...spartan. The customer service was good. The guy at the counter greeted us upon entering and gave us directions on ordering and answered questions as well. We ordered to dine-in and received one of their notification pucks. It was ready in a normal amount of time to fry chicken to order. That means it came out hot and fresh! The chicken can be ordered as a meal with side(s) and a drink or separately. We went ahead and ordered some bottled water (they offered tap, but I wish they had the nice filtered cold/hot water dispenser as an option) and got our chicken without the sides. Honestly, I might've ordered a side, but I didn't see them when I was standing there ordering. I noticed them when I sat down and took pictures of the menu. I'm kinda glad I didn't because they were somewhat crazy expensive: $12 for some kimchi rice? Jeez! Anyway, I got the regular order of boneless Gangnam style chicken and it was phenomenally juicy and flavorful while still being crispy. $15 for that is a decent price in my opinion. You just aren't going to find many places out there offering you chicken with flavor and texture while still getting truly juicy meat. The pepper flavor really came thru in the sauce! My sister got the "whole" galbi chicken and she devoured it. One final thing I want to say about the chicken: NORMALLY, you order boneless stuff and it's dry, small, all white meat, and I was half-expecting the same here. Bb.q Chicken always serves up a great meal, whether it be from this location or the Duluth one. My hubby and I recently ordered Uber Eats delivery with a discount I had. The food arrived fresh, hot, and on time as always from this location. We have picked up in person on numerous occasions from here also without issues. The staff are all nice, and the food is always ready when it's expected to be. We got the soy garlic boneless again in our most recent order which is always a great choice - nice and crispy, yet juicy, with mild flavor. I also decided to try the Galbi wings this time (bone-in), and they were amazing! I highly recommend both flavors. If you like Galbi (Kalbi) beef, then you'll like these wings - same great sauce. My hubby also likes the golden chicken, although he didn't get it this time. Never had a bad experience from here or the Duluth location yet. This location has a smaller interior (around 4 tables of 4) and is predominantly take out. Went here with a group and ordered Gangnam boneless chicken, soy garlic wings, fries, and rose deokkbokki. The gangnam boneless chicken has a nice savory sauce and the chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The soy garlic wings has a standard sweet soy taste but the wings were VERY small unfortunately. The fries were pretty standard, but the real star of the show is the rose deokkbokki which is a creamier sweeter take on the standard deokkbokki and bbq olive always makes it amazingly and I would highly recommend. read more

If you're looking for good Korean fried chicken in Doraville/Chamblee, this might be the best spot currently. In Doraville, I like Hello Chicken too, but it's not as popular nor as highly rated: http://bit.ly/2LUnesw. Harue Korean Chicken Snack Bar isn't bad either: http://bit.ly/381xVQ9. As I wrote in my review for the bb.q Chicken in Duluth (https://bit.ly/3MDXyMi), this international chain once had another Duluth location that opened back in March 2011. That location closed and the current Duluth location opened just off of Pleasant Hill Road near I-85 in August 2019. In 2021, the chain added two more Georgia locations: Suwanee in March 2021 (https://bit.ly/3I0xBmF) and this Doraville location in June 2021. The bb.q Chicken footprint and in general, the Korean fried chicken footprint, has continued to expand in Atlanta. A couple Korean fried chicken restaurants opened close to where I live: Choong Man Chicken opened its first ITP (inside the perimeter) location near Georgia Tech in August 2020 (https://bit.ly/3tAeYk7) and local joint Mukja Korean Fried Chicken opened in November 2020 (https://bit.ly/3HMYBFS). Both of those are good too. So, there's more good Korean fried chicken in and around Atlanta than there used to be, which is good thing. For quick, easy Korean fried chicken near me, I'd probably go to Choong Man on 10th Street and call it a day. Choong Man (or "CM Chicken") might be *the* best of them all. All that said, I don't think you can go wrong with bb.q Chicken. This is one of the top Korean fried chicken chains. It's been around since 1995, originating in South Korea. The "bb.q" doesn't stand for barbecue. It stands for "Best of the Best Quality." Some of the old branding for this chain - "BBQ Olive Chicken" - existed to show off that the restaurants deep fry their chicken in olive oil. I think that's part of what sets bb.q Chicken apart from the competition. During my visit to this location, the menu had Whole Chickens in nine flavors, Wings in 10 flavors, and Boneless chicken in 11 flavors. Outside of chicken, there were Korean snack foods like Ddeok-Bokki (spicy stir-fried rice cakes) and fast-food sides like fries and onion rings. $11 Boneless Combos, that include fries and a soda, and $8 Chicken Cup Bap rice bowls are lunch menu exclusives, offered Monday-Friday, 11am-3pm only. I've been eating more boneless Korean fried chicken (and American wings) lately and decided to go that route this time. Our server, James, told me that bb.q Chicken's Boneless chicken is made from thigh meat, which is what I prefer (dark meat). I ended up ordering a Half & Half Boneless ($25) and a medium size of the Honey Garlic Boneless ($14) for myself. The order lasted me 3.5 meals. One of my friends got a medium order of the Honey Garlic Boneless too and another friend got a chicken Sandwich Combo ($11) with sweet potato fries (+$1). The latter came with both coleslaw and bb.q Chicken's "Secret Spicy" sauce on the side. For my Half & Half Boneless, I chose half Golden Original and half Secret Spicy. The Secret Spicy sauce is a sweet, non-spicy sauce made with tomato, onion, garlic, and spices. Yes, it's *not* spicy, contrary to the name. To give you a sense on sizing, one person can easily finish a medium order of chicken. The "Half and Half" combos are equivalent to two mediums. The chicken I had at the bb.q Chicken in Duluth was crispier, but it was also bone-in. My favorite flavor here was the Honey Garlic. It had a sweet, sticky, and delectable sauce. I recommend it. My Secret Spicy chicken was drenched in sauce, perhaps too much. However, it still tasted fine. I will say that all the sauce negated any crispiness the chicken tenders originally had. I ended up using the extra sauce on my Golden Original chicken and it worked out well. My leftovers heated up nicely in the toaster oven: 400 degrees Fahrenheit for about 10 minutes per tray. The food packs and travels well and lasts for days. My leftovers were just as satisfying at home as they were fresh, dining in. bb.q Chicken is located on Buford Highway OTP in the old Treasure Village shopping center. Treasure Village is much less seedy these days. bb.q Chicken is in the space formerly occupied by beloved Korean family-style restaurant Don Quixote: https://bit.ly/3vO74Gv. The space has been completely cleaned up, renovated, and modernized. The atmosphere is that of a casual, fast-food, takeout joint with big wall/window graphics and pictures, and K-pop music. Limited seating indoor seating. Lucky for us, they weren't very busy. This place is self service. You order at the counter and they call your number when your order is ready. Eating utensils, condiments and to-go containers are to the left of the counter and you're welcome to take what you need. The staff was friendly and helpful. It's important to note that I did not try any of the chicken, but my family did. They ordered two different flavors and enjoyed how crispy and spicy they were. Located in a nondescript strip mall, I think I was their first customer of the day, I actually called my order in to save the typical 15 minutes of made fresh to order KFC. Let me tell you I was not disappointed. Ordered the Galbi style wings and a side of kimchi fried rice as I need my carbs. Both were excellent! The chicken still had a very decent crunch even after a car ride back to my hotel. Perfectly balanced sweet, savory, and a minor touch of heat. The fried rice was most excellent albeit the egg was not runny although not worth a half star deduction. I came by around 8pm on a Friday and it was fairly empty (though I think they get quite a few to-go orders). We got the Soy Garlic and the Galbi wings. Both were SO good. The galbi wings were sweet and spicy. The green onion was a great addition. The soy garlic was one of the better soy garlics I've gotten at KFC places - very flavorful! The crispiness of the chicken here is among the best - very nice crunch and suuuuper juicy and tender meat. Two wings between three people was a good amount of food.
