I've heard so much about kimchi red! I just never got the chance to try it until now. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, so when there are a lot of people, it can get pretty cramped. From my experience, the service is self-serve! Someone brings you the food, but you put up your plates and stuff at the end of your meal. They also have a station for you to grab your own to-go containers and bags. The first thing to be aware of is to not let any of the photos fool you! The portions are very generous. Many people around me ended up taking to-go boxes (myself included). I got the Kang Nam chicken, the half-sized tteokbokki, and the kimchi fried rice. The chicken was crispy and tender, and the white sauce with onion was incredibly delicious. The kimchi fried rice was also very flavorful as well. The spices balance very well together. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the regular tteokbokki. It wasn't bad per se, but it also wasn't good either. I think there are better places to get tteokbokki, but no worries, their focus and strength here is obviously in their fried chicken. This is a very cozy and casual restaurant. Stopped here on lunch break with a few co workers. We arrived around 11:45 and called ahead for a table to beat the lunch crowd. Ordering is easy but it did take a while for us to receive our food only because it was made fresh to order which I appreciate. We got a variety of items to share. Best fried chicken in the nation? Ok, sure, I'll bite. I've had this place on my radar for months, and I finally found time to grab some food here with friends and... it was alright. We went during lunch, and it was already packed. The place itself was smaller than expected, and it was a bit of a tight fit when everyone needs to order at the counter. At one point, there was a line to the door! There are two cashiers, and drinks are placed nearby, so it's hard to not be in the way. While dining in, it also felt cramped when there's people lining up to order near you, so hopefully you (and your group) are able to grab a good table to sit at. So the fried chicken is nothing spectacular. It was good, but it did not wow me. I would be just as happy (or maybe happier) getting Korean fried chicken from a chain (bbq chicken, Pelicana, etc.), esp given the price at Kimchi Red is higher but does not taste better. The chicken was cooked well and was crisp when we got it, but that's to be expected, right? The sauce was fine. Not my preferred, but we got Buldak bc of socials. It was very creamy, which helps fight against how spicy Buldak sauce is. Personally would've liked it to be spicier, but we all eat varying levels of spice, so it's better to play it safe. We also got K-Mega fries to share, and my friends wanted kimchi fried rice. The fries were probably the best part of the meal for me. It came out loaded and was much bigger than anticipated. Each bite was different from the previous and helped it not get too boring for me. The kimchi fried rice was surprisingly bland. The bits of kimchi you get in certain bites come through as sour, and it wasn't spicy. It looks great, but don't let that fool you. Get something else. Will I be back? Not by choice. If someone I knew wanted to go to try, yeah ok, I'll tag along to see if it got better, but I won't be planning on it. At least I know the K-Mega fries would be good and worth getting. read more

The fried chicken with kimchi had a generous portion size and could easily serve 2-3 people. My daughter saw this place on TikTok and has begged me for weeks to go check it out. We went on a Saturday afternoon and I was shocked it was in like a strip mall but it was cute inside. The pricing is about 30 bucks per entree that says it serves 2 but we felt more like 3 lol . Great for groups up to 6. Please come HUNGRY . I heard all the hype about this place and had to check it out. From the outside, it doesn't seem like much in it's quiet strip mall location. The inside is small and I thought it would fill up on a Friday for lunch but it did not. There are some 2 seater tables and 4 seater, and they reserve the bigger tables for bigger parties. We saw some to-go orders being picked up while we dined. The menu has more than just chicken wings, but most of it is chicken. The chicken is portioned for 2 people so one order will satisfy. Our party of 2 got the Chef secret flavor and it was excellent. We got mild (medium or hot were the other options), and the sauce was really good, not too overpowering. The batter was thick, but didn't feel heavy. The fries we got also had the batter that gave it a nice crunch. It was so much food we had some to take home. Since 2023, I haven't been back to Kimchi Red because there wasn't much of a need to based out of the fact that social media "influencers" in the Atlanta and Greater Metro Atlanta area are going to these various spots and hyping them up. And then you see the hype. Kimchi Red... rated to have the BEST Korean fried chicken in Georgia. I've had a bunch of Korean fried chicken before and each joint has their own take but I've not had Kimchi Red's Korean fried chicken so I had to opt for it but I also wanted to have like a post workout meal other than fried chicken so I opted for a plate that they offered. I went with their spicy stir fried pork dish which is served with their specialty seasoned rice and a healthy portion of japchae (potato starch glass noodle mix). But the pork itself was mixed with more of a sauce than a stir fry marinade that this dish is known to have in Korea. I don't know what it was but it was goopy and frankly, not very appetizing. Plus it was sweeter than what I'm used to and which the spice might be there for the most part, it wasn't enjoyable as the sauce overpowered everything from the japchae to the rice to the pork slices Now the chicken. I went with the Kimchi Red chicken which was just their normal pile of fried chicken parts slathered with stir fried kimchi, some chilis, and a pork sauce. I guess that's normal to drizzle tonkatsu sauce over it but ok. The batter was decent. The crunch was there. But everything was overpowered by the kimchi and the sauce and you really couldn't taste much of the batter nor the chicken and that is disappointing to say the least. Best fried chicken in GA much less America? Not quite so don't believe the TikTok or the Instagram "influencer" hype. I actually visited when it first opened and thought it was pretty good, although it appears we didn't order the popular fried chicken stack that others around us were ordering. We decided on something a little lighter - the galbi plate and the Korean fried chicken plate (with hot and spicy yang yum sauce). Both were excellent - the chicken was perfectly fried and the plates were hearty and fairly priced. Comes with rice, kimchi and japchae. On our next visit, we decided to try their popular fried chicken - half or whole. We ordered the Kimchi since it was the first on the menu and also the "Chef's Pick". While we were waiting at our table in the corner/against the wall, we ended up having to move tables because the music was so damn loud. There is absolutely no reason the music in a restaurant should be that loud on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm. I was feeling nauseous from the vibrating walls that I was leaning against. I didn't want to be a Karen and ask them to turn the music down but geez. Looks like it has been a recurring problem in the past so hopefully they have fixed it by now. It took a while but I figured they were frying it to order. It came out in a gloriously messy stack of fried chicken and kimchi. It was extremely flavorful but also extremely salty. Wow. Best fried chicken I've ever had meets the creativity of Korean sauces and sides! This isn't cheap considering it's in a suburb mall, outside of the city. But it is worth the drive and price! We had four people in our party and got two orders of chicken (each order served 2 people) -- the Red Buldok and Honey butter chicken. Both were delicious and the sweeter wings were a helpful balance to the savory. The chicken itself was the highlight for me -- crispy skin and incredibly tender and flavorful white meat inside. The ambience was okay -- felt a bit like an informal fast food joint. We actually got the fried chicken takeout as there unfortunately isn't a lot of seating inside the restaurant and it was packed on a Saturday night. The chicken remained surprisingly crisp and hot despite a half hour drive, though the portions may be smaller than when in-person. But I still thought the staff tried their best to accommodate people. I ordered the Fried Chicken Plate with Soy Garlic Sauce on the side. This review is for the newest location in Johns Creek. It's located at the corner of Peachtree Pkwy and McGinnis Ferry Rd in the Kroger shopping center. Plenty of parking. This is fast casual, order and pay then sit and wait for your food. We were told about the Alpharetta location but this one was right by our gym...so we came after a workout worthy of the meal. We decided on a side of beef dumplings, which came with rice and furikaki along with a small portion of Jap Chae. Very, very delicious! Couldn't say no to kimchee fried rice, which is a crowd pleaser for us, especially with the fried egg on top! We decided to go with the chef special wings. Only two of us so an entire chicken was a little aggressive. We ate so much we still had 9 wings to split and take home! The dumplings were fried to perfection, and the fried rice didn't make it out of the restaurant. The sauce is spicy but has some sweetness to it- really tasty combo. Service is excellent, we met the owner and she told us how she travels back and forth to ensure quality is high and people are happy. If you're taking out, get sauce on the side. If eating in, you could do it that way but I'd enjoy the flavors all over the chicken. They provide boxes for you to pack up your leftovers, and also plastic gloves if you would rather keep your hands clean. Be warned- I'm a purist but I had a mess with the wings, in a good way.
