Best Korean Fried chain restaurant My favorite flavor was the Spicy Original wings but Galbi Wings has a salty but somewhat sweet flavor that I'm addicted to!

    Compare the two...

I have been to two of these outlets in Northern Virginia and have enjoyed the food and service in both. bb.q chicken has been the exception to my extreme dislike of chains. Not so in Houston. First impression: the outside looked very dirty and uninviting. I actually wondered whether it had already gone out of business. One door didn't work but upon opening the other door we were greeted not with a pleasant Korean fried chicken aroma, but with the overwhelming smell of heavy chemical disinfectant. Now everyone likes a clean restaurant but this was like a noxious cloud of chemical gas. (And the worse part is the restaurant wasn't even that clean. The bathroom had paper thrown all around it and the screen on the window obviously hadn't been cleaned in years - I almost accidentally leaned into it before seeing how grease-stained and dirty it was.). The "waiter" was almost a zombie. He had his earbuds in his ears so perhaps he was listening to his music while waiting tables? But he mumbled some kind of greeting that none of us could decipher. Several things we wanted to order were "not available." One had been off the menu for a long time but they just keep it on the menu card, we were informed by mumbling earbuds. Waiter honestly seemed like he'd rather be anywhere else than at work. Maybe this is not the job for you, earbud guy? We pressed on and placed our order. The fourteen dollar (!!!) bulgogi rice plate was a tiny, cheap, thin plastic bowl three-fourths full of rice with a couple of pieces of meat on top. It looked old. Sad. And it came out long before the rest of the plates! People go out to dinner or lunch to eat together. If you give one person in the party his meal long before the others you kill the fun of eating together. Then they came with the "sides." Korean corn, coleslaw, pickled daikon. The Korean corn (four bucks) was awful. Tasted like chemicals and was watery and just gross. Tiny styrofoam cup. The Korean corn at the Falls Church VA outlet was outstanding. This was inedible. Coleslaw (four bucks!!!) was in a tiny styrofoam cup with some cabbage and water and maybe a pinch of mayo. Gross gross. Pickled daikon was also gross. And such small portions... Finally the other three plates came out. After a long wait. I had my favorite, which is the second hottest thing on the menu. Nowhere as spicy as it was in Clarendon, VA (very little sauce on it) and the eight piece wings (FOR SIXTEEN DOLLARS AND NINETY-NINE CENTS!!!!) was five flats and three drums. All of them could literally have come off a pigeon. That's how small they were. They were almost microscopic. Another in our party had galbi style boneless and it honestly was twice the amount of meat that I got. Same price. Downside: she said there was a really weird taste to the food. Kind of tasted and smelled like an old sponge. Kind of moldy or mildew tasting. What's going on in that kitchen?? Where are you storing the sauces? You can see in the photo the comparison in portions for the same price. I would actively attempt to dissuade anyone from eating at this sad, disinfectant-smelling, empty restaurant with nearly no service and even less happiness. Worst part of it all: Lunch for four with an appropriately modest tip was...NINETY DOLLARS! One beer, three waters.

Franchises can be funky! As many of us have experienced, there's nothing worst than walking in with an expectation from experiencing a brand in one location only to find something less than at another location. That being said this franchise surprised me! The location itself both inside the restaurant and outside in terms of the surrounding area are nothing special. In addition to a few tables, the weathered booths are borrowed from the previous tenant (branding included). On our visit, our service was fine, just fine, but the reason this business earns 5 stars is 100% related to the product. We ordered both fries (would not recommend) and onion rings (would recommend) which both arrived notably before the wings, but the wings were worth the wait. The unique clean crunchy exterior is incredibly addicting so much so that neither the location nor the lukewarm warm service mattered after first bite. We tried the bone-in honey garlic and spicy galbi. Both flavors were perfectly balanced, flavorful, and delicious. I will say, if anyone has mastered reheating these bad boys, let me know! For now I suggest, eating them fresh!

You can never go wrong with bbq chicken but I feel like the Westheimer location might have had an ownership/staff chicken because the food was different compared to previous experiences + Menu: Standard menu but for some reason they had no galbi sauce at all to make the galbi wings... + Food: Honey Garlic chicken felt way spicer than usual and the Rose Tteokbokki was mushy I have no idea why all the food tasted different than usual + Would I go here again: love bbq chicken but I might have to just stick to the Bellaire location and skip the Westheimer one

Had my mind set on this place, since I've seen it advertised in social media and I passed it so often. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and was a bit confused on how to navigate the ordering process. The place was empty and there was on staff member who told me that I could sit anywhere and she'd come and take my order. I sat in a booth and was instantly confused as to where I was. The embroidery on the seat opposite mine indicated that I was in a Red Cab seafood restaurant. LOL. After hearing about the specials and how to order from the menu I ordered Hot Spicy Boneless Wings, waffles fries, and a drink. The waffle fries were just OK and the boneless wings were more gristle, fat, and batter than anything, which took away from the tastiness of the hot and spicy sauce. Can't see going back to do seconds here.

Yum!! Absolutely delicious SO-DDEOK-SO-DDEOK!! Also loved the fried Mac n cheese- crunchy exterior and melt in your mouth center! Main meal- Golden original chicken. I'm a big friend chicken fan and this hit the mark! Made fresh to order, crunchy exterior and hot juicy chicken inside. Everything was made fresh and brought out hot. Service was prompt and friendly. It's a relaxed atmosphere.

Never have I ever wanted Korean fried chicken more until I watched Crash Landing on You. The product placement worked and I'm happy I didn't have to travel all the way to South Korea to try the infamous BB.Q chicken. I've gotten takeout from BB.Q previously but it's not fair to rate a restaurant on takeout when it is not as fresh. We finally dined in on New Years Eve. The restaurant is spacious and bathrooms have a keypad lock with a single toilet. Make sure to knock before entering as you never truly have privacy. The chicken is perfectly crisped, though the flavor is a bit lacking. I want to blame the fact that we came late on NYE as it has been more flavorful in the past. The wings are a perfect size, I prefer it on the smaller end. Make sure not to get the fries with Parmesan, it tasted too fake. We also got a large size wings for 18 wings total, 9 spicy original (BB) and 9 soy garlic. Overall, I would still come back to try more flavors. I do hope that the next wings will be more evenly coated with sauce.

My friends and I had a double date at BB.Q Chicken yesterday and I was impressed by the delicious food and friendly service. The chicken was perfectly cooked and well-seasoned, with a crisp and savory coating that had just the right amount of spice. The staff were attentive and brought water and plates on time, making sure we had everything we needed. I've actually never had Korean fried chicken, and I would say based on this experience it is the KING of fried chicken styles. The batter used for coating the chicken is thin and crispy, which results in a crispy exterior and tender interior but not too 'thick' of a crust, which can gross you out after just a few pieces. There's a few options, wings, boneless, and whole chicken. Personally, I would stick with the wings. We got the spicy galbi, honey garlic, and golden original. My favorite was the original but honestly all of them were great, the sauces doesn't make the fried chicken soggy at all! It did take a while to get the chicken but you can tell they made them fresh, it was piping hot, so be sure to no burn your mouth! Yes, this is going to be one of the more expensive fried chicken places you'll go, considering there's plenty of competition. BUT if you're looking for the best, freshest, crispiest, and never-get-sick-of-eating chicken, BB.Q is gonna be your bb.

I stopped into Bb.q Chicken on Westheimer for a quick snack. I'd been craving Korean fried chicken wings but decided I didn't want my usual spots. I ordered online while I was down the road in Chinatown, the ordering process was a breeze, and the estimate was about 25 minutes. I arrived about 10 minutes before my scheduled time and waited only 3-5 minutes for it to be finished. The lady at the counter was prepping and attentive to myself and the dine-in party. In terms of ambiance, there were only two parties inside but the place is huge. I will admit, I was a bit turned off by the smell inside, it reminded me of the farmer's/asian markets, it was kinda like old cabbage, collards or broccoli, I definitely could not have dined in and endured it so that's a loss of a star for me. I didn't see any signs of uncleanliness, just the off putting aroma. Overall, The price and portion is comparable to other kfc establishments, like hoodadak and soho chicken. I think the flavor options are bb.q are superior. Once I got home, the chicken was still hot, crunchy and flavorful. The wings are a perfect medium size, not those steroid wings you get at Brewingz but not the baby ones you get at American Deli or even Soho chicken. The spicy galbi is the way to go, in fact I'd call it a level 1 spice and it could be hotter. The sweetness balances it out and it is a delicious wing. I just wish I'd gotten a large, with that sauce, I could eat the 9 by myself, but I was forced to share!

I was impressed by the portion size, because each half could've been placed in a separate bowl, add more broth (shaved ice and a slice of Korean pear optional), and that's two portions in most places. Historically, these noodle dishes were a rare treat and a delicacy, as these noodles were very labor intensive and hard to make (although I'm sure they're mass produced now), and had to be served cold in the summer heat. Banchan was tasty too, including the kimchi which was early in the fermentation stage. The kimchi pancake was huge, definitely had to take this one to go, and came with an optional Korean-style spicy soy dipping sauce. I ordered the combo and went with the Bulgogi, which was tender and tasty, but didn't come sizzling so the pan it came in was more for display. For example, the Cheese Crab Puffs have occasionally arrived completely cold with barely any crispiness or color, and we've had similar issues with other appetizers. My favorites are the Garlic Salmon Sashimi, Black Angus Marinated Short Rib, Wagyu Beef Belly, Black Angus Rib Finger, and Thick Cut Pork Belly. I also enjoy the Takoyaki, Crispy Tuna Rice, and Tteokbokki. There are a few dishes I would skip, including the Spicy Scallop Sashimi and Nigiri unless you enjoy very small scallops, the Baked Green Mussels, which are overly sweet, and the Prime Beef Brisket, which I've found to be tough and dry. Overall, there are plenty of dishes I genuinely enjoy here, but the inconsistency keeps this from being a place I can wholeheartedly recommend. The marinade was well done on the short ribs. **banchan- my favorite was the pickled radish and cabbage kimchi. Not a lot of variety compared to other places, but each dish was done very well. I didn't really care for the potato salad. * doenjang/soybean soup: maybe it's just me, but it was very salty. Not my top choice of soup regardless. **kimchi-jjigae : very solid kimchi stew. The right amount of heat to pair rice with well but it's so rich. I could only have a couple bites to the end of the meal. ***hotteok with chocolate ice cream. It's a simple dessert and done very well. The cinnamon and sugar come out balanced very nicely with the chocolate. Service: So attentive and fast ! Staff was very respectful and quick, on par with fine dining. Had to wave over some folks to request another order or utensils and they were on it. Kudos.

The service was a little slow at first, but I saw the owner of the manager come out and make sure everything got taken care of so props to him for being aware and making sure all the clients were taken care of. Food: everything we had was simply amazing. The beef fried rice was made to perfect perfection. Every single bite was so good. You can tell the use quality, beef here and quality rice. The fried dumplings were amazing. Every bite was so good. Last the chicken dish I can't remember the name of it, but oh yes, maybe it was called bolugi chicken? It was so good, had a very good spice to it. Every single bite was amazing. You can tell they use quality ingredients here. We will definitely come back. We enjoy this meal. Great job team. Keep it up.

The service was good, and the food was okay for what it is. The standout dish was definitely the LA Galbi. It was flavorful, although the portion size felt a little small for the price. On the other hand, I would not recommend the Spicy Pork Bulgogi. The meat had a mushy texture and was not enjoyable to eat. One downside was that there were quite a few flies inside the restaurant, which became pretty annoying during our meal. Overall, it is a good spot if you are looking for a quick meal to satisfy your Korean food craving.
