I called Reactic Restoration on Friday, and Daniel Garza was able to inspect the damage that same day. Our house is older, so testing for asbestos was a standard part of the process; Daniel was able to get us in touch with an asbestos testing company that provides quick test results. That company got a tester to our house the next day (Saturday), and results were available Monday before noon. Fortunately, the tests showed that no asbestos was present. Daniel was able to assign someone to come to our house that same day, and set up dehumidifiers and plastic containment sheets with zipper doors, to seal the work zone, and to put down plastic to protect the carpet. On Tuesday, another team was able to remove the mold-affected wall materials, and wipe down the area with an excellent non-hazardous but effective disinfectant. They knew our preferred plumber was arriving at 1pm, and they were done with all work, including HEPA vacuuming and cleanup, before that time. The dehumidifiers are still set up, and will run for at least 48 hours. Daniel checked the area and the machines today (Wednesday), to make sure everything had been done correctly and that the dehumidifiers were working as intended. I am very happy with the service provided by Reactic Restoration. As Daniel kindly acknowledged on Friday, it's a shock to find mold in your house unexpectedly. It's been less than a week, and the mold is gone, and everything smells normal again! Everyone I encountered from Reactic was professional and kind. I hope we won't need their services again; but if we do, they will be our first call.

Before they arrived, we shut off water, mopped up water off hardwood floors, ripped out part of the carpet / pad in back room as it was saturated and we set up 2 dehumidifiers - this was not our first rodeo. Our understanding is Mike runs the location out of sac he came that night 90 mins later from sac, so grateful! The response was 5 star all the way!!! Since Mike is based out of sac, he called the guy who runs the Novato location Gage who showed up shortly to handle our job. We went over the incident -I remember it being pointed out specifically that water went down the heater vent in the bathroom and it needs to be checked. A bit more cleanup and after testing we had 3 rooms, hall and bathroom compromised. We agreed to be proactive and had them remove baseboards and knock holes in the walls between studs to save sheetrock. Mike again reviewed everything with gage. Next day gage and his team arrived to continue - they removed compromised hardwood, bathroom vanity and toilet, and added equipment 4 rooms of the house. As discussed they had the flooring planks in the back room with fans to try to dry and salvage as they are less than 2 years old. Over the next week gage came regularly to test the moisture level in walls. He crawled under the house & It was determined that the bathroom tile was not drying quick enough and would need to be removed to save the subfloor. Hubby and I took out the floor ourselves that weekend. Another week of the heat /fans and we were able to save tub. Unfortunately 3/4 of the flooring had to be tossed.. about half due to warping and deep scratches from improper stacking (nails) . We weren't mad, just another setback. Because we were paying out of pocket the bill remained within the range they agreed to allow us to make 3 payments. We wrote a check for $4k as first payment. Now onward for unplanned bathroom remodel- During this time wife begins getting sick- we have HEPA purifiers in the bedroom and house but this isn't helping. Another 2 weeks and the tile guy is finishing the floors when he discovers there is standing stagnate water in the heater ducts. We are now stuffing towels in all our heater vents to block stagnate, moldy air from coming in the house. It also February, we were running the heater daily - so the heater is now off and it's cold. Wife calls dry medic and asks informs gage there is water in the heater ducts. She asks him if they remove the water from the vent in the bathroom. He said no. She asked him why and he said he didn't think about it. That was it. We called a duct service to crawl and give an estimate. The duct company said the duct in the bathroom was full of water and sagging in several areas from the weight of the water and it was the straps holding it up. He was shocked dry medic didn't deal with this as this is their job of water mitigation. He advised us to call them back and deal with the water and they didn't do it and that IS THEIR SERVICE! We called gage again and told him that there is water in the ducts and it should've been removed. He told us that they don't do duct work as they aren't trained on that. But your job is to remove the water and you didn't. Now we have moldy water and are sick from Running the furnace. He said he didn't know why he didn't check it, he forgot, but duct work isn't something they do. That's it. The following day I reached out to Mike - who was surprised by the whole thing. He immediately apologized and said it should've been done and they would make it right. The following day gage came out and verified there is moldy water in the ducts. He brings a hose to suck it out but the hose nozzle is too big and he can't get it in, So he can't do anything. He gave me the name of a duct service that they highly recommend. But that is all he can do, Which was nothing. He didn't bother to bleed or remove any of the compromised duct. He confirmed there is water inside our heater vent for over a month and it's a horrible stench and our house is 54 degrees in winter - that is what he confirmed and left. I called his referral plus three others for estimates .. his referral was the highest. We ended up needing to replace 4 of the vents that were on the same run as they that had water in them. The weight of the water caused tearing from the straps and the insulation got wet and soaked up the water. We ran the heater which just made it a moldy science lab. This was an additional 4K that didn't need to happen IF they had done the job correctly and removed the water with a vacuum. Our last payment was $1k - I was expecting they would say - don't worry about it as we screwed up costing you an additional $4k repair, but no. There was nothing. This is a franchise operation.. and THIS location I would NOT recommend.

I've never had to use a Water Restoration service before so I browsed trusty Yelp and reached out to Fire & Water Damage. Glad fellow Yelp friend Karen W gave a glowing review! They seem to answer calls 24/7 and I was able to schedule an appointment quickly. Mike was main point of contact and gave us an estimate and scope of work. Basically, they had to tear out the drywall and insulation from the wet area, dry and dehumidify the area for days, and then put on moon suits and remove any mold. We were able to have 2 techs come on a Friday and then let the dehumidifier run over the weekend. We also had to tear out our upper cabinet since the top was damaged by water. On Monday, they came back to remove any leftover mode and patch things up. The total price came in well below the estimate, which is a huge plus. Very happy with the service and efficiency. If you ever suspect you have water damage from leaks, call these guys and get the problem resolved to ensure mold doesn't form or worst, spread. Note that their services are purely restorative - they'll dry out the water-damaged area and get rid of all the mold. You'll need to hire a plumber first to stop the leaks and then afterwards, a drywall contractor to patch up the holes with insulation and new drywall followed by texturing and painting.
