My wife and I first found Fernando based on the strength of his Yelp reviews and we have not been disappointed. Out of all the contractors we approached to redo our ceiling and repaint our walls, Fernando gave us by far the most detailed estimate. He took the time to carefully measure our unit, where other contractors just sort of ballparked it, and explained exactly what he thought needed to be done. As other people have mentioned, the man is a professional and came in extremely close to cost. When it came time to start our job, we set an appointment for 8:00 AM. Fernando and his guys were on our doorstep at 8:01 and ready to go. They removed our ugly old popcorn ceiling, carefully laid plaster in its place, and repainted all of our walls. When my wife and I asked to add on a few last-minute repairs around our skylight, Fernando graciously agreed and still finished days ahead of schedule. The quality of Fernando's work speaks for itself. He and his men did a beautiful job of removing our ugly old popcorn ceiling. They carefully sanded uneven spots in our walls before repainting and were extremely tidy about not getting a drop of paint anywhere it didn't belong. Attention to detail is their best feature. Fernando came out to the house and gave me a fair estimate for the work to be done. There were some communication glitches, but overall the work performed was precise. I gave them a key to the house and the crew was very trustworthy. They sanded all the surfaces and smoothed them out and the painting trim work is very nice...all the edges are crisp. A few minor inconveniences..they switched my vent with my return and I forgot a vent that needed painting. Also, the first two days were great, but then the crew dwindled down, so the job took longer than I expected, but I should have asked as well. In the end, Fernando came by to do a final walk through and inspection with his crew and touch up any last areas. Fernando and his crew saved my LIFE. I initially selected BBC to FINISH my kitchen because my original contractors bailed on a planned weekend of work. Seriously...I interviewed 4 other contractors, who either never showed or didn't have time to take on additional business...Unbelievable...right? Then there was BBC..my rescuers When Fernando and his employee arrived to assess the work that was still needed, they arrived on time and exhibited a great wealth of knowledge in their profession. They even set up my new stove, during the consultation visit, so that I could at least use it for the time being (until the entire kitchen was finished) I was already impressed. They installed my kitchen counters, sink, dish washer and painted the entire...it was perfection They even sealed off the kitchen entrances when they were working and placed cloth on my wood floor and worked..non-stop. After these jobs were completed Fernando noticed that my new slate floor (installed by different contractors) were sinking, uneven and moving..not installed properly. He brought it to my attention (although I noticed it as well). As a result, I hired BBC to re-do my floors. They are GORGEOUS!!!, leveled..did I say GORGEOUS. Now I'm planning on a bathroom remodel. Our project involved a lot of remodeling to the lower level of the house. For the largest part of the project, BBC completely designed and built a new kitchen for us. But to do that, they had remove an old staircase to make room for the kitchen, and complete the installation of a new spiral staircase to replace the old stairs. They also completed interior and electrical work on a downstairs family room and bedroom. The work was expertly and professionally done: BBC designed and largely installed the new kitchen. The porcelain floor was expertly laid down, some difficult problems involving ductwork were cleverly managed. The installation of our appliances and the associated plumbing and electrical work was planned in close consultation with us and was expertly done. The recessed lighting and other electrical work was well planned and executed. The construction model for the kitchen was carried into the adjacent laundry/utility room (lighting, flooring, etc.) and a pocket door that had been partially installed between the two areas was completed and serves as a visual and sound barrier to the washer, dryer, and heat circulation. The top landing for the spiral staircase is impressive, blending into the wood floor at that level, and some minor flaws in the initial (partial) installation of the staircase by another contractor were well managed. BBC did an excellent job of finishing up the family room. Smaller, but equally professional work was done in the installation of a new bedroom ceiling fan, completion of shelving in 2 rooms, and needed work on the ceiling and crown molding in a bathroom. An assessment of the overall electrical service needs for the total project determined the need for a much higher-capacity service box, which was installed. All around, the work was thorough and done as if it were their own house. read more

BBC Constrction -Fernando's team It is a month now that we enjoy our new kitchen- renovated by BBC construction. Our experiences with Fernando and his team were excellent!!! Our first encounter was about our bathroom. We were told by two other contractors that we need to redo the bathroom after some water damage affected the shower walls. Fernando was the third contractor and the only one who (unaware of the others) added an option to replace the damaged parts of the walls in a fraction of the cost, something that the others, claimed was not going to work. His team fixed the bathroom walls and replaced the tiles exactly as they were after replacing the damaged parts -saving us thousands. Two month later we invited him to provide a free estimate for our kitchen remodeling. His estimate was reasonable and competitive compared with 2 other companies. Additionally, he explained clearly and patiently our options, always allowing us to decide without any pressure. We chose to work with him so his company, BBC Construction was in charge of the demolition and renovation work from A to Z, while we bought the cabinets, doors, and all the other items separately. Fernando and his team were always on time, worked with their full heart in the job (for long days), were highly caring and respectful of our privacy and cleanliness of the work area and its surroundings on a daily basis, which have taken several weeks. Their work was highly professional and of excellent quality (including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and all)!! When they found some clogged pipes, they explained and showed us the problem so we could decide on our plan of action and then were highly competent in fixing them in a reasonable cost. Over these two projects, Fernando and his team gained our full trust (I'm naturally a suspicious customer..). We had BBC assist us with a job in which part of it was covered by insurance while the other was not--this included new drywall, framing, paint and new baseboard molding in several rooms of our house. Fernando was able to breakdown all the costs of the various components of this project to assist us in being able to submit to insurance. Most contractors that I called were not interested in providing us that level of detail with regard to the estimate. He was very patient while we worked with insurance for the sign off and once work was approved, BBC was able to come out within the next several days. On day one, Fernando did a walkthrough with us and his team to make sure everyone understood the work that was going to be performed. His team showed up everyday on time, the house was prepped impeccably and the quality of his team's work exceeded our expectations. Really pleased with the installation of my laundry room cabinets! Antonio and Josue used tarps to cover the work area and cleaned up after they finished. I didn't have enough shelf brackets so after returning from the nearby hardware store with the closest brackets I could find they adjusted the holes inside the cabinets so that the new brackets would fit. To my surprise, I noticed after they left that they fixed a poorly patched hole from a previous carpenter. They were punctual, courteous, and communicative. I have used Fernando for several small to medium sized jobs on both our house and a rental property. He is a wonderful guy. He is responsive and does high quality work. One time I was out of town and had a pipe start leaking at a rental property and he was able to go over and do an emergency repair which saved me a big hassle. What I particularly like is that he is very honest about what he can and can not do and deliver. He also prefers to give written estimates and takes credit cards for payment over the phone, which is a big convenience. Some caveats that I see from the other reviews are that sometimes the work isn't completed exactly when planned and there are some unplanned expenses. However, if you do any sort of renovation work, you know that this is pretty normal for the work. Contractors are always trying to balance multiple jobs and things always take longer than planned. I will say he always stays in good communication with you and you just have to be a little flexible as that is just the nature of this type of work. Bottom Line: I would recommend him whole-heartedly. read more

I've taken on three previous remodel jobs; two were complete do-it-ourselves efforts and one was with the help of a fabulous contractor in Frederick, MD. I was a bit concerned about price, quality and trustworthiness here in Silver Spring. My remodel in Silver Spring required someone who could see the design ideas with me and work with me on a unique condo remodel and the use of clean air products I wanted to purchase. I met with and accepted estimates from four contractors. Fernando's bid was in line, he was prompt to each meeting, answered all of my questions with professionalism and drive - I selected BBC Construction for the job and was never sorry I had. As with most detailed remodels we hit a few bumps along the way but when the job was complete the results were beyond what I could have dreamed. Fernando is honest, reliable, dedicated and has the experience to take the project thru to a successful finish. I am impressed by their workmanship. I searched for a few other contractors but Fernando and his crew took the time to survey the area of work and listen to my needs. Fernando and his crew were tasked with rebuilding an exterior wall portion that was cut open by a previous owner to build a box-like structure in order to place an old-style large screen projection type TV inside (like those TV's that were popular in the 80's). Additionally, that box looking structure protruded about 2-1/2 feet outside the exterior wall, which make it look awkward from the outside too. They restored the wall to its original house design, which will allow me to install my new 60-inch flat screen TV to the wall. They also cut away the box structure from the exterior wall frame, placed wall insulation, and installed an OSB sheet on the outside to fully close up that opening and seal it from the outside extreme weather conditions. That was not originally planned as they were going to leave the outside structure intact but they were very nice and understanding to perform that last outside task without raising the labor cost, which I am very grateful. Overall, his price was reasonable-probably the best deal, their quality of work was outstanding, and they accomplished this in one day despite that he gave me an estimated time of 2-3 days! I called BBC about a window that I thought needed replacing in my bathroom. I made an appointment and Fernando arrived promptly, had a look at the window, took out the removable window sections, and discovered some caulk pieces that had been placed at the bottom that were blocking drainage. He removed these, assessed the window, and concluded that I should have the glass sections replaced, since the seals were broken, and replace the broken slider mechanism. He noted that it would be too costly a job to replace the whole window since the tiling around the window would also have to be redone and that was in good shape. He then informed that I should go to Blane Windows to get the glass replaced and have the slider mechanisms replaced, since these were specialty parts for the particular window, noting that he could do this for me but it would cost me more because he would be charging me for his time as well as what Blane would be charging. He did all this and then didn't charge me anything for the visit! It doesn't get much better than that. read more

Fernando and his team are incredible. We had a large and complex project and they did a TOP RATE job. So many positive things to say about the huge transformation they accomplished with our house; here are just a few highlights: new electrical system works perfectly; new plumbing is so much better, and allows for laundry on our upper floor; new floor to ceiling windows are gorgeous; structural reworking of load bearing walls done beautifully - an now we have incredible views between rooms. All of this work was amazing. And even with all of these huge projects, Fernando spent many hours with me thinking about small artistic details, such as the internal window trim design. We have a mid-century modern house - a real work of art, and replacing the windows with modern windows is complex. We wanted to maintain the open feel of the original field-built windows, while using a modern product. Fernando worked out a design that maintains the original proportions, while allowing modern windows. The final result is a very complex interlocking design, which almost seems to "float" in the wall.
