Well it was a Chinatown morning, a little shopping and brunch. We didn't do the traditional dim sum places, for a couple of reasons, but one of the main reasons was that it was earlish and many restaurants don't open till 11:00 or 11:30. We also kind of wanted down home not fancy Cantonese food especially congee (rice porridge). So anyway, bbq king is our go to non assuming neighborhood place. Big menu, scratch kitchen hearty Cantonese food . The restaurant has a nice comforting atmosphere, service is generally good. I guess we've been there often enough that we're recognized and they don't put a fork and spoon out, like some Asian places do when a non Asian goes in. So we ordered our congee with preserved egg and pork. My dining companion ordered the two item combo. (Duck and pork on a bed of rice with bok choy) .i ordered braised tofu with shiitake mushrooms and Chinese broccoli. Service was fast today, maybe more staff in the kitchen. The congee was good, not too watery and a good amount of pork. The bbq was delish, the duck crispy and a bit fatty and the pork was tender. My tofu was flavorful (from the sauce) and there was a decent amount of broccoli and mushrooms. Tea was included at no charge. read more

The name of the restaurant doesn't seem to fit their menu. This is a typical Chinese family style restaurant. They have a huge menu with various Asian classic dishes. See menu photos. Portion sizes are big. Flavors were good. I do feel prices were a bit high for this kind of food. But satisfied overall. They were willing to split the bill of our group which a lot of Chinese restaurants wouldn't normally do. This is a regular stop when we come to Vegas for some local food. Despite the name, we usually don't get the Chinese BBQ because it's not their best dish. Instead, we go for the Hong Kong style chowmein, braised tofu, and the fish and tofu hotpot. Service is friendly and always fast, and prices are reasonable for the large portions. This is a small mom & pops kind of place. My family has hosted many family dinner here for special occasions, including birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc... The staff are helpful and quick to provide service. Venue is clean although a bit crowded when the place is packed. If you want bbq this place authentic with hanging roasted pork and roasted duck that you can see from a clear windows. The food is superb! Delicious! We brought a whole fish, which they cooked, and that was very good, and I really liked the Chinese cauliflower with pork neck. I got catering from here and have eaten here multiple times as a Vegas Chinese local. Depending on who's cooking the food can be a hit or miss but still a good option when you're craving Chinese food. The staff working there do their due diligence and are nice. I've came here once to pick up a whole duck before and wanted to give their other dishes a try. They do offer hot tea like most Chinese restaurants. The food came out pretty quick. Beef chow fun was good but there were a little too much onions and i do love onions. It was better than most places but i feel like it still could've had a little more flavor. The salt and pepper shrimp was seasoned good and only had a few pieces that were hard to open from being overcooked but still overall really good. I go here because is easy access in and out. What I mean is I don't have to wait for a long line, I stop by here for a quick roast pork over rice, or roast duck over rice, quick bite before going back to work. But what I found out about them is, their meat cutter SS Fu is lazy, I mean lazy as F*** One time I went, I ordered the Roast Pork over rice, the server called the meat cutter guy, nobody come out, waited a few more minutes, she called again, nobody come out, finally the server cut the roast pork herself. Finally the meat cutter guy came out, asked what is she doing. She said I called someone to help, but nobody come out, customer is waiting, so I did it myself, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT. Are you serious??? Even the meat cutter guy standing there, he never tried to take over. I left, and open my lunch box, is like maybe 7-8 piece of meat, are you kidding me???!! The storefront in this tiny and congested strip mall does not face the main drag so this place is a little hard to see from the street. I almost thought they were closed when I pulled into the parking lot because of the blacked out front windows and as I was walking up to pull on the door, I had a momentary hesitation since the foreboding dark windows made my imagination go awry. I was a little concerned I was going to open the door and find an illicit gambling operation inside but my apprehension was replaced with excitement as soon as I saw the glass cases of roasted meats awaiting my ingestion. There is something about animals hanging in a case after a barbecue sauna that hits me right in the hunger zone. This place has a lot to offer including char siu BBQ pork, roasted crispy pork, roasted ducks, soy sauce chickens, and even some great looking pigs ears. There were some other chafing pans with unidentifiable animal parts braising themselves to tenderness that I'm sure were offal of some sort but my mission was a plate of the char siu over rice. Cash is king at this place so don't try to pull out your credit card or you might not get fed. For just under $10 I got a generous serving plus some green veg to make me think that I was eating something healthy. It definitely all hit the spot and while I have had char siu in some places that I might rate a bit better, those have been in places overseas. Certainly I have not found it better in Vegas. For the money, I walked away fat and happy. You won't get the warmest greeting from the workers when you walk in but it adds to the Chinatown feel. Plus, I didn't go in to try to make friends. Review during pandemic: This is a great place for BBQ meats! We got a whole duck and chicken, roast pork and some duck wings. They marinate the meats just right! Not too salty and not too sweet. The roast pork had just enough sweetness and it wasn't too fatty, it was pretty tender. This is ordered by the pound. The duck wings were marinated just right as well! I was a little skeptical about this place. When you first walk in it seemed more like a strictly take out place but then noticed there was a separate dining room. The dining area was somewhat sterile/new but it was bright and clean...something I can't say about many other Asian restaurants. Their BBQ pork is so soft and tender. The only thing I don't like so much almost every time I pickup some food to go was cashier/server attitude. I normally go in to buy BBQ pork, duck or chicken and usually I will get meat item for about 2 pounds each( They selling by weight ) ranges from $10-$15 a pound. I'm the type of people who loving sauces... many of them and I never mind if they will charge me extra. Because I can't make it myself. Normally I think the place haves some standard procedure which will give a cup of 2oz sauce (which is not filled all the way, so you pretty much have like 0.25 oz of sauce) to one pound of food. In this situation, I bought 2 pounds of pork and received 2 sauce in 2oz cup. I asked for 1 more sauce from the cashier while she packing and cashing me out. But seem to me that every time when I asked for extra sauce the lovely (not so lovely) cashier who hardly cracked a smile will have some random attitudes like rolled eyes, throw extra sauce in the bag, slam my item on the counter, no thank you and pretty much turned her back away like I was did something wrong to her oh so rude! Well well... keep that in mind. In this lovely economy nobody has to shop at one place. Good luck and hope someone who manage this place will take my feedback and hopefully will try to improve.
