In town for a business trip and BBQ is one of my staples to try the regional fare. This looked, based on yelp reviews to be the best in the area. First: The pulled pork was very good. Just the lean(ish) and no hard pieces, good flavor as well. The mac and cheese was average, not bad but nothing special. Finally the sauce, it was an atrocity. So disgusting I had to read the bottle ingredients and I still remember: ketchup, vinegar, fructose, cane sugar, corn syrup, salt, spices, and BUTTTER! What three types of sugar none being molasses or honey, something to give it any flavor other than sugar like heat or smoke, and butter? I have never had butter in BBQ sauce gross! Three stars because the most important part (meat) was good, and they have a plethora of vegan options which is a unique concept. read more

The food here is excellent. The service was attentive. The space was a bit quirky, but the food was so good, it didn't matter! I had the meatball sandwich, potato salad and the medium spice bbq sauce. The meatballs had so much flavor, not just ground beef, the house bbq sauce and the roll was grilled with cheese. It was so good, I ate the whole sandwich. I really enjoyed the medium spice sauce, just enough kick to cut the sweetness of the sauce but not overpowering, which I dipped each bite into the cup! I did not like the potato salad because it had too much egg. Of course this is personal preference and I am not a fan of eggs. My dinner mate had the pulled pork sandwich and fries, which I tried of course! Equally as good. The service was great, very attentive and informative of the menu. Cold, tasteless food. My wife and I went here after seeing the amazing reviews, but after trying it, I don't understand why. I got the meat sampler: - tri-tip: cold and there's no taste. We tried adding salt & pepper, but that meat was helpless. - ribs: edible but cold. - pulled pork: cold & tasteless. Even the BBQ sauces were awful! What a cute little spot! We were visiting and this was one of the few good spots for vegans food! It also has non vegan food for our non vegan friends. I had the sandwich with Hawaiian sweet bread and Mac and vegan cheese inside. I was so pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Next time I'll go for the nachos! They looked huge! BBQ 4 Life I'm so sorry to take away 2 stars but you absolutely fell short today. I had the half meat combo and the volume and texture of the tritip, ribs and pork were spot on but it smelled and tasted old and it was obviously reheated because the food temperature didn't approach hot. The butternut squash side dish was way under cooked and not buttery at all. The service was the normal quick and friendly, no issues there. I'll definitely come back because my first experience was amazing. This one not so much. read more

I hope we caught them on a bad day and will try again down the road. It took 30-40 minutes to get our food (from the time we arrived, at least 40... From time of order at least 30) even though it seemed very slow. Perhaps they were understaffed today? When we did get it, the tri-tip sandwich was good, but far from great compared to the competition and home BBQ I've had. The Pulled Pork Sammy my wife had was very dry even with the sauce, which was okay. Her potato salad was good, but nothing special... On par with what you get from a tub at Winco. Given this is so close to our work I wish we could depend on their ability to get us in and out in under 45 minutes to allow us time to get to and from work in under an hour... Unfortunately we were over by 5 minutes today and can't try them for lunch again. Perhaps dinner sometime. read more

3.5 Stars Good food and service, and I appreciate the heart behind the name and business. However, the BBQ sauce available is very meh and honestly not even close to living up to generic bottled stuff off of a Walmart shelf. Very mayonnaisey almost, in a BBQ-flavored fry sauce kind of way. In recent months, they've also stopped using Hawaiian bread for some of their sandwiches and cropped down the menu, removing some of their finer options. A year ago, this would have been a 5-star review, hands down. I've taken literally everyone I know here at some point. But now... I'm in the 3 - 3.5 ballpark. This place has a restaurant side and a bar side. I stumbled into the bar side by accident, but it turned out to be a good move. Had dinner at the bar. Full menu available there. A lot of local brews on tap. Had the dual sandwich, with pulled pork and tri-tip. Really delicious. Had the 805 to drink. Decided for a little more protein, so got the brat with mustard. Bit strange at first, but was loving it after the second bite. Nice atmosphere, excellent bartender, fantastic food, fair prices. Definitely worth the Uber ride. read more

Anyone who rated more than 2 stars has never been to Rib Shack in Eagle. My visit tonight at BBQ4Life was my first. The food was barely warm and was definitely very cold by the time I was half way through. They only have 1 style of BBQ sauce on the table but sell several more flavors that were on display. The seating is on wood picnic tables like you use at a park. When I'm surging on higher priced BBQ, that's not what I would expect. There were several checks at our table. (Came with friends) And they ran our card on our friend's meal that was 1.5 times more expensive. I was hoping for a better experience. read more

Tried this restaurant for the first time yesterday. It is so nice to have a BBQ restaurant that provides vegan options, but also has typical meat BBQ options so that families with differing dietary needs can all eat here and be satisfied. We had a Vegan Foot, Veggie Burger, and Tri-Tip salad. All was delicious, though the sandwiches could have used more sauce. The Vegan items were just as delicious as the meat items. Pretty good for vegan BBQ--which is extremely hard to find. Had the Vegaloaf which is a smoked tempeh sandwich with their house vegan potato salad and house chocolate raspberry BBQ sauce. The potato salad was the best part, followed closely by the sauce! They were quite skimpy on the tempeh, though it did have a nice smoky flavor. The side of vegan slaw could've honestly used a bit more vinegar and salt as it was mostly bland, but tasted fairly fresh. Good local beer as well. Would like to come back but I feel like there are several other establishments in Boise that give you a better, and tastier, bang for your buck. Not our normal Boise area BBQ stop but wanted to give it a shot. Easy to get to. Got there and seated ourselves as per the sign. Got our menus and our drink orders quickly. I would say we waited about 40-45 minutes till the food came out. Waitress tells us it's coming right up. We wait a little more. Viola it FINALLY shows up. Oh damn that's a big plate. Can't wait to dig in. What to eat first? I try the ribs......chewy. Not tender. Flavor is good and smoke is present and they are meaty. Not done well though. Seemed underdone. Damn. Pulled pork is okay. Not much flavor but tender and smoky. Mine is better. Tri-tip.....now I'm a Californian and Tri-tip is our JAM.....I make it all the time and it rocks......this.....not so much. First it's way underdone. Second it's chewy and tough. Third...it's COLD. Sooo disappointing. I take my BBQ seriously as I make my own rubs, sauces, and cook things to perfection when i cook. This meal, while big, just wasn't good. The country beans were like country carrots with a bean here and there....no flavor. The Cole slaw was meh. Again mine is better. So disappointed. The staff are friendly, service was decent, wait times are long, food is decent but could use improvement, portions are large, price is decent due to the portion sizes, seating isn't the most comfortable though. I found their BBQ sauce at a Christmas Exhibit last year. Really love it, but never visited the restaurant. Till last week, a couple of friends who is one Vegan and one gluten free would like to treat us lunch, thus we found this place. I got a tri-tip sandwich with Philly style (extra $). It is not your original Philly Cheese Steak but it was yummy! My friends were able to get Vegan sandwich and gluten free sandwich. Their BBQ sauce is also Vegan and gluten free! I revisited BBQ4LIFE a week or so ago and I was really happy with the menu expansion. I tried the bratwurst and was so full when I finished the first half that I took the rest home. Per usual my partner and I both chose mac n cheese as our sides and I got to eat most of it so I was very happy. The mac and cheese is not the most flavorful or the best ever but it is a great side and it serves the purpose of balancing out the salty-sweet combination of the bbq sauce and meats. He got the half and half (half pulled pork half tri-tip) sandwich and loved it. When we left he was already talking about how excited he was to eat his leftovers later that night. Their new items look really tasty and we will definitely be returning to see what other tasty improvements that have! As far as ambiance goes I really love it. Checked this place out for lunch in search of the perfect bbq place. Came here seeing a lot of options and great menu choices. Everyday they have a special where you get a 1$ off. Today was the big foot and man was that good. It comes with super tender pulled pork and mac and cheese in the sandwich. I've been doing this as a kid putting mac n cheese in almost everything and it finally caught on somewhere. They have a bunch of awesome sauces for both fries and meat. You get a choice of side with your sandwich so i had to go with fries. Great fries by the way. Perfect crisp. The only thing slightly lacking was the meat! There wasnt enough! Another person got the tri tip and that sandwich was loaded with a thick amount of meat. Only thing I would suggest would be to fill it up more! I really wanted to like this place more! It's a good spot but I won't be rushing back. I had the "half meat sampler" plate. All the meats were good but all the food was marginally warm which is a big factor for me with BBQ food. I wasn't a fan personally of the potato salad and next time would just get fries. The desserts bring this place back up to 4 stars for me. I'd go back just for desserts. Really enjoyed the bread pudding a la mode and the lemon bar. This place is legit. I'm from the South and this is some of the best BBQ I've had. I've ordered too much to remember but everything has been really good. One time the ribs weren't that great but they are usually very consistent. Awesome Mac and cheese. Great meat (love the tri-trip). My favorite is the half pulled pork half tri tip sandwich.
