Found this gem at Indian Creek plaza in DT Caldwell and we were so happy to have stumbled upon it. They are dog friendly- and we even got to sit inside (with our golden)- they brought him a bowl of water and loved on him too, which is always such an added treat. The service was AMAZING! Seriously, even if the food hadn't been great, which it was, we would come back just for the vibe and service. The place was so cute- it had amazing murals all over the walls, a decent sized menu and our server made the best recommendations and truly went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcomed, taken care of and that everything was great. The sauce is delicious, the brisket was wonderful, and the price point is fair. If you like BBQ, go check them out for sure. We can't wait to go back. If you're in downtown Caldwell DO NOT SKIP THIS PLACE!!! The brisket was so soft and the flavors were spot on. The wings and the bbq sauce were epic. And the burger meat my husband said was probably one of the most delicious burgers he's ever had. Everyone from the hosts to our rad server TY who was super cool so sweet and funny with insights on how to order stuff. To the raddest cook miss whiskey that I've ever chatted it up with at a restaurant Eva. What I'm trying to say is. This place is unassuming and tucked away in the Indian Creek Plaza. On first look it appears to be a hole in the wall place, though once you walk in and turn the corner, it has limited inside seating, bar and a substantial patio area. The insides are dark but a cool vibe. Service was extremely friendly, loved the positive, happy care. Ordered a beer on tap, called "killer bees" to keep on brand with a Halloween theme. Small mason jar for the price but fresh and a great compliment to the meal. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich with slaw, pickled red onions and a side of fries. Pork was incredibly tender and the portion was on the larger side which was appreciated. Slaw was a nice compliment, creamy and perfectly partnered with the pork, but the onions were oddly tangy to the point of skewing the other flavor profiles. Fries are almost like large scoops which is fun and different. Downside is the upcharge for using a credit card. Receipt was super confusing with the food and tax coming to a correct total, then a cheaper cash price which is less than food and tax. Loved the service and food was good! Ordered the $40 BBQ Sampler. It was excellent. The service was top notch as well. The desert was the Cornmeal beignet with their homemade pistachio ice cream. It was delicious! The chef (Kris) was eating his lunch, when we sat next to his table. It was fun to learn of his BBQ background and experienced his hospitality, while he was on a lunch break. He gave us a kimchi sample that they made and it was excellent, BTW. Their BBQ sauces, if you want them, but the BBQ stands by itself. The sauces are flavorful with varying heat levels. So if you're in the area, stop by. They have inside and outside covered seating. This is a place to comeback to again and again. Thanks again for the best date ambiance in a long time. I have eaten barbecue in virtually every state known for it, especially the south where I am from, so I am somewhat of a snob. I must admit I flinched (twice!) when I saw the cost of one brisket sandwich and a side at "Chop Shop" at Indian Creek Plaza in Caldwell, but I am willing to try most everything at least once. I felt it was a pretty good sandwich, though smaller than I expected for the price. That said, did it rate among the best brisket sandwiches I ever had? No; I have been to Texas. Was it worth $15.50? Also, no. I have been to Texas. But, I will cut them some slack, though, because: 1- It's in downtown Caldwell, Idaho, so "overhead." 2- They are doing that whole "hippie thing." You know, "locally sourced, farm-to-table, organic environmentally conscious" stuff, so more $$$. 3- They have a decent beer selection. 4- The people were nice and the service was great. The Coleslaw wasn't bad. I will very probably eat here again, but it's too expensive for what it is for me to make it a habit. That said, by 7 pm on a random Wednesday in August, every seat in the tiny little place was taken, so it is locally popular. The negative reviews about the place being dirty and the trays being unwashed did not prove to be true in my experience. I found the place clean and the tray I had was spotless. If you're looking for a real "barbecue joint," there are some better options in the valley, but if you're looking for a nice place in Caldwell to have a decent brisket sandwich and a draft beer, this place is for you. I have eaten better barbecue cooked on the roadside in a grill made from a cut-out 55-gallon oil drum, but I ate it while sitting on an unstable picnic table outside in the Texas heat, drinking Coke out of a Styrofoam cup. The 3-star rating is simply due to the stuff being overpriced in my opinion. It's like the owner is trying to do fusion "barbecue" and "fine dining." It works, for what it is, and where you eat it. We got to eat tonight sitting at a bar, indoors, in air conditioning with 90F temps outside, with a pretty, tattooed 20-something bartender gal chatting us up, rather than outside in Texas heat with some octogenarian Southern dude just slapping the food on a paper plate while grunting at us, so.... He was so nice and asked our son how his food was ( he's 2 so he didn't really respond ) but when Kris the owner asked him if he wanted ice cream his eyes lit up. Ok, this place is stupid good. In the winter I stopped to grab some fries and it was just a novelty... This time, the loaded fries. We went full starch and protein. It was me and my daughter and I thought I would start with the loaded fries as an appetizer... That was the meal! Holy cow (no pun intended) they were amazing ... We sat and ate and ate...and ate ... Squeezing on the sauce. I think they may mix a little somethin-somethin in the sauce ... Because it is really awesome. That's it. Water and loaded fries. It was an awesome dinner for two. I can't wait to go back and try something else. Did I mention the fries? These things are the weirdest shaped fries... They are scoops. We ordered two of the platters which had brisket, pulled pork, 2 pork ribs, a sausage link, one side, and two rolls for $27 each. The gal working the register let us know it feeds 2 people. The pros: The brisket, pulled pork and ribs had good flavor They offered two BBQ sauces, Texas and Carolina. (I preferred the Texas, but my husband preferred the Carolina) The service was friendly They have a nice outdoor patio with shade The cons: It was a little on the small side for the price/feeding two adults. It will feed two people, but it would be a light meal (2 men...probably not enough) We ordered the coleslaw as the sides but all agreed it tasted like cabbage and mayonnaise- no seasoning could be detected They don't offer fountain drinks. I know this is not a big deal for many, but I really don't care for getting a canned soda at a restaurant While it's a very nice place and very clean, it is VERY small inside (only a couple tables). This isn't an issue at all during nice weather, but I could see it being a problem when teh weather doesn't allow for comfortable outdoor dining. I think that the meat is always the most important part of any BBQ experience, but the sides and other factors are what make it great. While I wasn't dissatisfied overall, I felt there are better all-around restaurants in the area. Treasure Valley badly needs some legit BBQ and Chop Shop has arrived on the scene to deliver! Location is awesome right off the downtown Caldwell Indian Creek Plaza. The winter evening we stopped by the plaza had ice skating and music, just a great location for the family. The inside of Chop Shop is a renovated old brick building, and while small inside it's well done. There is a bar with some stools and couple high tops. Side counter when you walk in and couple large tables in the back near the kitchen. Not a lot, but they always do to-go if you can't find a seat. Beer selection on draft is small but growing. We started with the curry fried cauliflower and it was really good. Wife went with the pulled pork sandwich and I had to take a stab at the Pit Master Sampler. They were out of Lamb so I elected for more brisket. The brisket was good, with likely the ribs or pulled pork at the stand out. We will definitely be back! When I'm not interested in cooking BBQ at home for hours, this will be our spot for a quick fix. read more

My husband decided to take me here to celebrate our wedding anniversary yesterday (brought our two month old baby along with us), my husband gave the guy his number because it would be a 20 minute wait and we went to a near by bench to wait. After waiting very patiently and watching the time go by my husband thought he should go in and check to see what's going on (8:30pm by this time and they close at 9pm) when he came back he let me know the guy took his number down wrong and he said that he was sorry but they're very busy and aren't able to take us in anymore because it's close to closing. Not a pleasant experience especially after waiting so long with a little one, we kept waiting on a call or text and being patient just to get told they took the number down wrong and sent us off. Spent our anniversary at Texas Roadhouse took us in right away, no waiting and better looking prices. Me and my folks just moved into Caldwell and I was eager to give this place a try. The space inside is small but cute, we loved the murals and artwork and the little construction sign tables! The food was good! We got 2 of the sample platters. My favorite meats were the sausage and the pulled pork. The sides were awesome, I never knew I'd love fries this much! The butternut Mac was great too, I can see why it's a hit, and the candied yams are sweet and made with local marshmallow. Always looking for new restaurants to try, I found this one on line. The aroma as I approached the front door was calling to me.... Oh goodness I had to try it out. No disappointed! First off, if you are going to this place on a weekend, make a reservation!!! They literally have like four tables. I don't know how it is on the weekdays. I got there around 7 or so on a Saturday night. No seating except in the foyer by the door. A small table that is attached to the wall and is maybe a foot deep. Now, the food is really good! We got the sampler Platter. The turkey was cooked just right. If you like dry rubbed ribs, this will be your jam. The rubs have a lot of dry rub. I like a lot of seasoning so I liked it. There was also brisket and some chopped pork. Didn't eat those. The sides were awesome. For the Mac and cheese. Definitely very cheesy. Also got the caramel sweet potatoes. the honey buns were super dry. Didn't eat them. The two bbq sauces they gave were awesome also. A Carolina sauce and a more traditional one. We also got the fried mashed potato bites. So yummy and last but not least the Cesar salad. There was almost too much dressing, but it was still really yummy. Will I go to this place again? Probably not. I live out off of federal so it is a 30+ minute drive for me. Bbuuttt if it was closer or someone else was driving, I'd go again. The barbecue food was good the waitress even came out to meet me with my to go order outside of the business which I really appreciated. I wish they had more room for seating in there but we did take our items out to the Square and sat and listen to music. I also feel like they need fountain drinks rather than just bottled drinks always seems like such a waste of glass and plastic to me. It took us way too long to try Chop Shop BBQ. We heard great things about this place and they didn't disappoint! My husband and I shared the sampler plate and it was surprisingly enough for the both of us. It came with brisket, sausage, ribs, pulled pork, rolls, and a side (we ordered the Mac and cheese, which I highly recommend). Everything was perfectly seasoned and not dry at all, despite what some of the bad reviews have said. We also really liked the bbq sauces, especially the lighter brown one that had more of a vinegar taste and paired really well with all of the meat. If the food wasn't already good, the service was enough for us to want to come back. The owner even brought us some house made capocollo to snack on while we were waiting. The two sauces I tried were good. If I go back, I wont ever order the brisket again. I might go back and try the burnt ends or the brisket. Considering that this BBQ place is just down the street from Amano, the new scratch cooking Mexican place, we now have an additional reason to visit Caldwell. The baby back ribs and brisket are first rate. Try ala carte or as Pit Master Plates with sides. Although we did not have sandwiches, they looked delicious too; maybe next time. The appetizers include some unusual items like cod poppers and curry fried cauliflower, unusual for a BBQ joint. The candied yams with salted caramel is a welcome change for a side also. A BBQ meat I will try next time is the smoked lamb shoulder plate. Our dinner was finished off by the seasonal bread putting.
