Went to BBQ4Life the second time yesterday. Had the Bacon Blue Cheese Burger special. The waitress said it was a lot of food but the size was about 1/4 or 3rd of a pound. And 2 strips of bacon which I'm not sure if they were even thick cut. No lettuce or tomato for even a vegan place. The sides are about 4oz which is too small. The quality of meat was good but there are far too many other great places that give more food and just as good for the price. I paid $12.50 which is way too much for what I got. There are far too many other places in Boise for inexpensive that are just as good. Coworkers pulled pork sandwich didn't even have pulled pork on both sides of the sandwich. read more

A friend of mine took me into their original MFT location and I was pretty excited when I learned they were moving right down the road from me. I have tried many menu items myself (and sampled even more of my friends' and family's choices) but my go-to is the pulled pork sandwich; I also like to get the meat platter to share (although it is so good I could probably eat it all myself). I think I have tried every side and have not disliked any of them, but my favorite is the spicy coleslaw with apples in it! So good. Be sure to try out some of their different BBQ sauces - you can even get a bottle to take home with you (I have habanero peach in my fridge right now). I have really wanted to try the dessert (they always seem to have a seasonal version of bread pudding) but I am always too full by the time I am done eating to even think about it. We had the best brunch here today. The food is delicious and the service is awesome. The vegan cornbread is nom nom and my family loved the ribs. They used two different grills one for vegan and one for meats. My son ate everything on his plate and ordered a sandwich to go! The vegan nachos were right on the mark. It's difficult to find vegan food when you go out to eat, and we have finally found a place! There are options for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. LOVE BARBEQUE FOR LIFE!! The have amazing vegan and meat options and the customer service is impeccable

Service is awful & the food did not live up to expectations. Super disappointing. We were sat at a table by a server who walked past us probably 15 times without acknowledging us any further. We watched her serve other people their food, bus tables, return to the tables she had served to ask how their meals were for a good 10 min without bothering to ask us if we would like anything to drink. The one other server even came by, asked to take our BBQ sauce bottle to fill it up, returned it and walked away. I got up and went to the front desk to ask if that's where we were supposed to order, that's when the girl who sat us let me know she thought the other girl was serving us. I understand that there can be miscommunication, at this point I had no hard feelings. The first server immediately took our order after I made her aware that we had been waiting. We ordered drinks and she asked to see our IDs, finished taking our order and left. Another few minutes goes by, no drinks. That's when the other server came out and asked to see our IDs. We informed her the other server had already checked our IDs but we handed them over again anyway. She leaves, another 5 minutes goes by. By this time we had been sitting at the table for almost 20 minutes and didn't even have water on our table. We are all obviously & visibly irritated. Another lady comes out, manager or something I would assume. She asks to see our IDs. I had to ask if this was a joke or something. I made her aware that the other two servers had already checked our IDs, I also made sure to make her aware that we were not happy as we had been waiting a very long time. She didn't say much other than we just look really young. Great, thank you. If you ever have to double check somebody's ID I suggest you send the manager out the first time because this was just absurd. 30 minutes after we were sat and we finally get our drinks & food. It was okay, not too bad but also not very good. I will not be returning. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because the first server that sat us seemed to actually care and she ended up taking the drinks off our ticket. Ok... Where do I start... Brought family from out of town in for a late lunch. There were 9 of us all together. The service was really bad. We all ordered and it took 25 minutes for one person to get a rootbeer while other people received there soda, tea and water. After waiting a long time the server finally brought 4 orders out then 15 mins later 4 more and I had to wait another 15 mins to get my semi-warm vegan nacho and another 10 mins to get my vegan Mac n cheese, which was also barely warm. We had to remind the server to get the cornbread that was ordered. The 2 other orders of vegan Mac n cheese where barely warm with barely any cheese sauce. Had to order some extra to put on ourselves. Not sure what is going on but my partner and I have eaten there a few other times and the quality and service has been going down hill really bad. We got checked one once. None of us were happy with the service and very few were ok with the food. The server added an 18% gratuity automatically which he did not deserve to each ticket. Thanks for forcing us to tip on such awful service. We will NOT be going back and will NOT be recommending this place to anyone else ever again. Extremely disappointed! read more

I'm ridiculously excited to have this place in the new location. The decor is a little sparse and I'm awaiting their beer/wine license (I may be there on the daily if they implement a happy hour...) but they're getting there! The food is just as fantastic as always, the vegaloaf remains my favorite. They also mentioned they may do breakfast in the future (c'mon veg biscuits & gravy!) which will be awesome, we could really use more breakfast options in this area. And since I've already inadvertently started turning this into my wish list I'm just going to end it on this: some sort of veg "wings" a la Hungry Tiger Too in Portland (complete with a "wing night" in a perfect world) would just make my year. read more

This place is cool. Not your high class place, family style with a picnic feel, which was great for our son (2 yo). Being a vegetarian I was intrigued by notion of vegetarian/vegan BBQ...I had to try. And I have to say I wasn't let down. Tempeh wasn't the best I have ever had but it is surrounded by so much goodness...Hawaiian bread, mac and cheese, vegan BBQ sauce. Food was great comfort food. My wife had the monte cristo and loved it. Definitely isn't a place to go to if your watching your caloric intake...but if you are why are you going to a BBQ place to begin with? Personally, I think its great that this restaurant focuses on a broader spectrum of food and not just on one side. We will defiantly be going back. read more

The meat here was tender, but very bland, with hardly any flavor at all . . . and they didn't even have additional bottled sauce on the table that a customer could add to help make up the difference. The macaroni and cheese, by contrast, was oddly spicy, with some kind of pepper flavor that I couldn't quite identify. It was truly nasty, and I could only get down two bites of it before I gave up and left the rest behind. It seems the menu would warn that the mac & cheese is spicy . . . and it also seems the restaurant might do better by spicing up the barbecued meat instead of the mac & cheese! If I had realized this was the same business that used to be located in the Rodeway Inn, I would never have gone in the first place. That's because I tried to eat at their old location once, and the item I ordered on that occasion (the butternut squash tacos) was just as bad. I'm not yet convinced that there is actually any place to get good barbecue in Boise . . . but if so, it certainly isn't this place! I love the home-grown feel here. The food is always good and the hazelnut squash worth trying! I tried the ribs and wasn't particularly impressed, but I'm pretty picky about searching for the perfect melt-in-your-mouth ribs. Staff is friendly and the owners are often in the kitchen. My boyfriend and I order out from this place more times than I'd like to admit. Since we lost Casanova, this place and Sakana Sushi are the best places to eat in this area. The people who work there are super friendly. The mac and cheese is the best in town. The potato salad is also pretty good. I usually order the Mac Daddy (rib sandwich) but on the bread that the Big Foot comes on (hawaaiin). Both sandwiches are awesome. My husband and I had lunch here the other day because it's one of the few restaurants around that offers vegan options (I'm vegan, he isn't). For that reason alone it won me over--but with a smoked tempeh barbeque sandwich, vegan mac-n-cheese, even brussels sprouts as a side dish, this is completely different from the several other vegan restaurants here. The first time I came here I had the meatball sando with Chivers garlic BBQ sauce with spicy coleslaw. It was pretty damn good - very good flavor and great meat to bread ratio, coleslaw had good heat and flavor. My GF had tri-tip salad - tri-tip was super tender and flavorful. I would have rated it a 4 star. The next week I brought a group of work counterparts and I got the sando with boneless rib meat. It was OK but I felt there was a lot of bread compared to meat - different bun from the meatball sandwich. Also, I felt the meat was pretty plain. Someone in my group thought the Mac and cheese was the bomb but overall I felt that the group of 12 was pretty, ehh. The server was very careful to take our order, in order, but then food started coming out in a half-assed way where everyone has to raise their hand for their food - come on. Went there again for a tasty meatball sando, good again. Got the Mac and cheese based on the coworkers recommendation, thought it was extremely bland. My GF compared it to Kraft Mac/cheese but I think Kraft has more flavor and texture. Overall, I think there's some good stuff here, just need to order the right thing I would go back for that meatball sanny read more
