Fantastic place!! Something I loved about the place was the assortment of banchan. It was all so tasty and fresh, and people would come by and ask if we wanted refills of any of them. The seafood soondubu was great. Savory broth and a good amount of tofu and seafood. Would definitely order again. The place can get a little busy. I went around 2:30pm and waited about 20 mins for a table. It was also pretty loud inside. Personally the noise level didn't bother me but if you're sensitive to noise it might be a bit too loud for you and might want to go at a less busy time. I really liked the free appetizers. They have fried yellow fish, potato salad, marinated bean sprouts, kimchi, cucumber and squid. Free refill and very generous on the portion. We ordered the galbi combo and seafood tofu soup. The soup is a must, very flavorful and hot. They will give an egg to add to the hot soup. BCD Tofu House has the best tofu soup I've ever come across. The quality of the broth and tofu is very good, not to mention the other many other dishes they offer. The marinated short ribs are rich in a barbecue char flavor with tender meat. You will always get a few banchans to eat before and along with your meals. My personal favorite is the potato salad. It has a hint of sweetness from apples and other things they mix with it. The service is spectacular, as the servers will go around with carts full of banchans to help you refill if needed. The only downside of coming is the long wait time, but it only shows how popular and worth it the food here is. I will always come back to this restaurant anytime I am in Irvine! read more

It was remodeled a couple of years ago and it is way bigger than it once was. My understanding is that it merged its original space with the store/restaurant next door. There are so many tables in here yet there always a wait of 20 parties or more. Things do seem very busy in here but it's also organized? Servers are always running around but you just trust that they have a system going. This BCD is in Diamond Jamboree. If you're familiar with DJ, you know parking is hit or miss depending on the time of day... but it's more likely chaotic than not. They have a ton of parking here but DJ is such a popular plaza that you can get stuck behind cars for awhile. FOOD // I've always ordered the SEAFOOD TOFU SOUP with the DANGER level of spice. It comes with tofu, clams, shrimp, and oysters. Any tofu soup order comes with side dishes and a bowl of rice. I don't eat rice often but their rice here is pretty good! The food here is solid. It's not too salty, too hot, or too bold. Everything just meshes well together. I love it so much. The quality has not diminished at all over the last ten years. Of course, the side dishes are also amazing too! I get refills all the time. SERVICE // The service is actually pretty good. We received our side dishes and food in a timely manner. I will say that the servers don't really talk to you that much. They just come around, fill your water, refill your side dishes, put hot water into your rice bowls, etc. without a word. If there was a way to give no stars, i would. After eating here three previous times and being disappointed all three times, my brother suggested i come back to try again. The servers were very cold and very rarely if ever came to our table to serve us. All the rice was delayed and the side dishes came late and weren't refilled on request. This doesnt even begin to cover the atrocious food we received. The food took 30 minutes to arrive. When we ordered there was only a few other people in the restaurant. It still took a while to arrive and when it did we didnt even receive bowls for the rice and had to request the takeout container to put the rice in. The server said "oh we don't have any fresh bowls" but this was at 5pm... arguably the beginning of dinner service. When the food did eventually arrive the soup was so watered down and tasteless we actually had to request the soup to be remade because there was no seasoning and instead of remaking it, they literally handed us the same bowl of soup with maybe a pinch of salt. The bibimbap was the other thing ordered and there was a hair lodged in the rice on the side of the bowl. It was none of my family members' hair because it was short and curly. Seeing the hair literally threw my appetite out the window. I know we ate during christmas eve and likely the staff is overworked or something but arguably the service was worse than the previous 3 other times i went and tbh if theyre gonna disappoint me every time id rather avoid and never come back. read more

Loved it except it was too much food even sharing it with hubby. 5 stars for the soft tofu soup and 4 stars for the crab dish. Wish it had just little bit less seasoning. Last night at 1am I was craving Korean food so I gave a call to ask what time the kitchen closes and was told that coming at around 1:30 isn't bad. So I did. 1:30. Sharp. Greeter looks at me as if he's a disappointed parent, looks down at his watch, and asks me how many, says we close at 2. Like yes, I called! I don't ever treat my guests this way, not even if they come in 15 minutes before closing, not even if I feel like being passive-aggressive with my watch--trust me I relate to you, but. As a restaurant worker you never, ever act that way. Server asks me what I want. Seems so annoyed with me for being a paying customer. Treats me like I'm stupid, like I'm a toddler, for asking if they have noodles because add-ons said "extra glass noodles for $3." Bad days happen; I understand being in a bad mood but I've only been less than sweet to customers when they verbally insult me and still. I should've just left. I ordered the hot stone bibimbap combo with classic beef soup. I understand it was late so maybe y'all were out of beef but I was never briefed on that. I still got charged the full amount of $25ish when there were 1, perhaps 2, crumbly bits of beef in the entire 2 dishes. Bestie I'm a bodybuilder; protein is important and even a non-protein person would feel gipped. Besides that the tofu soup is to die for. The seafood soon tofu is legit, just the right amount of spice and saltiness, with silky-smooth tofu and plump seafood morsels in every bite. Everything else at the restaurant is just dressing for the soon tofu. Crack an egg into it and let it simmer for a bit so that it becomes a soft-boiled egg and you have a delicious, gooey addition to the soup. The Hot Pot BiBimBap is done right - again, let it sit for awhile so the bottom layer of rice gets brown and crispy, offsetting the texture of the soon tofu. It was my first time at BCD but the friends I was with had been here many times. Soondobu is always a great treat especially when you're tired, and we were doing just that! We came on a Monday for lunch and put our name down. We were seated within 5-10 mins of us putting our name down. I ordered the Original Soon Tofu and it comes with rice and the usual banchan. The food itself was good and definitely hit the spot, and from what friends told me, it seems like BCD is a place that's reliable no matter which location you go to... meaning the food will taste the same anywhere, which is great! It was overall good and I would definitely come back if I wanted soup. The one reason I took a star off is the service we got the day we went. My friends ordered the same thing, and I was the only one who ordered differently. They all got their food and they had my bowl, but the server kept looking at my soup and didn't end up giving it to me. I realized this probably meant something was wrong, but she didn't say anything to us at all. My friends were almost halfway done and I still hadn't gotten my soondobu or had anyone acknowledge that they had to remake mine. We had to flag down people several times before they actually paid attention to us, and took another 5 mins to get my food. It wasn't super busy so I wonder how the service might be if it was. On a cold night, BCD hits the spot. There's no other soon tofu place that I've found to be as good as this one in the Irvine area. It's quite spacious inside with lots of seating. The wait can be long sometimes depending on how busy it is, but most times no longer than 30 minutes. I always get the dumpling soon tofu with mild spicy level- I love the mix of pork dumplings, beef, and tofu in the bowl. If I'm feeling really hungry then I'll order a combo of the soon tofu and the spare ribs. Before the soon tofu comes, the server brings the side dishes. Personal favorite is fish cakes, what's awesome is that you can get multiple refills of side dishes you want. I don't think I've ever had poor service at BCD. Another of my favorites is their marinated crab. SO MEATY and great portion size. Galbi has a great flavor to it. Popped my husband's BCD cherry here, haha. Located in the Diamond Jamboree plaza, which is the Asian chain restaurant plaza with all the yummy goodies! There's an iPad with a Yelp waitlist at the front. Luckily we got here around 6 PM on a Wednesday night and waited about 15 mins but damn this place was popping when we left an hour later.
