We used to enjoy eating here but the food has gone downhill. last time we were there I ordered a chicken Alfredo dish that was not nearly as good as Olive Garden's. My husband's steak was subpar also. We're not planning on returning. read more

Decided to try the Beach House again tonight. The service attentiveness and chef's cooking abilities are still very inconsistent. On the last trip, I ordered lobster bisque, which was overly sweet, and a medium rare steak, which came out well done. On this trip, I was excited to see that the mini filet two ways were back on the menu. PLEASE stay away from this! If you were a fan of this previously, it is nothing like what you will remember. The filet are flat, lacking seasoning, and have a minuscule dab of bleu cheese and "horseradish" crust. I say "horseradish" lightly, because this tasted nothing of horseradish, but more so like the charred bit of a marshmallow roasted too long on a campfire. The steak was bland and was not finished with a coarse salt. The only saving grace was the very fragrant and delightful blue cheese. The vegetables were just that; just vegetables. There was no seasoning, other than water, and a few specs of pepper, which was just ordinary pepper, not cracked pepper. The mashed potatoes were the star of this plate. This was mentioned to the manager, who went to let the grill staff know so other customers would not suffer the same unfortunate fate. When it was time for desert, bananas foster was ordered. This was the only truly shining element of the entire course (all four ingredients!). This was prepared table side and the conversation was awkward at best. We were asked if we came here often, and there was mention of the comments about the lack of seasoning. We were then asked if we ever had bananas foster and said no. The chef replied "well at least you have nothing to compare this to then." Normally this would have been taken lightly, but that was not the case in this situation. Likely due to the awkward conversation with undertone of malice. Tip included, my check was nearly $200 and I expect much more when a restaurant in Decatur is charging "semi-fine-dining" prices, but serving lackluster dishes that could be prepared better at Diamonds Family Restaurant. Been there twice now first time go there chicken, 5/10 good flavor but very dry. Green beans were under cooked but was served with delicious mashed potatoes. Mashed potatoes we're probably the best part. Second time got the chicken tenders and mac and cheese. Chicken tenders 3/10 had weird breading chicken was decent though. Mac and cheese was good but had some what of a off tasting, 6/10. Over all has a very nice vibe to the restaurant and a good place for decatur, but kind of over priced for what they offer. read more

The scenery is beautiful. As soon as I arrived with my kids the owners and staff engaged us and fed the fish to entertain our kids. Even the cook came out and was nice. A friendly environment is something you can't buy and I thank them for making us feel welcomed. read more

Incredibly overpriced for average food. Service is poor. Some of the dishes are tasty, but it's incredibly inconsistent. I had a Mac and cheese dish, it was made incorrectly. They remade it without asking (just told me they made the wrong thing) and brought out a second gigantic macaroni dish and plopped it down in front of me. 2 lbs of macaroni sitting in front of me. They could have just asked and I would have declined the remake. But then the waitress disappeared for 20 minutes so I couldn't ask her to box it up or take it away. Was very interesting. Was a little pricey. I had the Chilean Sea Bass. It's comes seared, which I had before at another restaurant and thought it was barely cooked!! Asked if they could broil it for me and they did. Was a fascinating flaky, juicy fish. Could of used maybe another 2 minutes in the broiler,but no worries. The view was really nice. Told my co workers and they enjoyed it too. We both felt the Sea Bass could be at least 2 ounces more. You know. For men!! The waitress forgot to get bread and water, when I complained we got these bread muffins/rolls, which seemed like manna. It was soooo delicious. And since it came out almost the same time the entrees were brought out, I just incorporated that so I could make up space for the small portion of sea bass that I had. So it worked out. read more

I will Dmit we had not been to Beach House for several years because of a last experience. But we were so happy with last nights dinner that i had to write a review. There were 10 of our family and we met at 6 p.m. it was to celebrate our grandson's 19th birthday. Our tablr was ready and we were gretted by all. The food of everyone was outstanding. We had steaks, pretzel chicken and all were served steaming hot and on time. We brought our birthday cake and our waitress offered to cut and serve. I wish i had observed our waitress name because she was outstanding. We appreciated everything about our evening and we definently will return. TODAY (7-29-22) we arrived around 12:15 there were 10 of us. The hostess was extremely rude when I told her a party of 10. She said it would be 45 minute wait I said ok.-then I saw 4 tables and asked if we could just sit at these we didn't have to sit together her reply was NO we're short staffed and couldn't wait on you for at least an half hour after you're seated and we close at one. Short Staffed or not there isn't any reason to be rude-she should have said I'm sorry we can't accommodate 10 today. We will Never go back. read more

My caramel brulee was burnt and was honestky not cooked properly we couldnt eat it. Phew! Glad I stumbled upon the Beach House before I left Decatur! The restaurant was charming, with full-length windows spanning the interior and a large wrap-around deck offering ample outdoor seating. Tiki torches line the railing as guests can sit on the raised patio and watch the river flow by and people walk along the path below. In addition to offering regular restaurant seating, clearly they have the space to do sizable (100+) events inside and out. It would make for a very nice special event setting! Speaking of charming, the host (who I'm also guessing was probably a manager) was quite friendly and overall fantastic. I talked to him once on the phone when I called, asking about vegetarian options availabe, and chatted more upon my arrival. Other staff members were also friendly, making my solo-dining experience enjoyable. The dinner menu consisted of steaks, seafood, sandwiches, pastas, and flatbread pizzas. A few vegetarian options were available, pizza, pasta, and salads. (I'm getting used to these limited offerings while in Decatur...) I started with the Rustic Salad (mixed greens, strawberries, apples, walnuts, and a little too much balsamic vinaigrette, I'd order on the side next time) which was priced at $8, but my server fortunately mentioned that (while it wasn't listed on the menu) half portions were available ($5.50), so that was great! I then had the flatbread margarita pizza ($9) which was a little thicker crust than I would consider a "flatbread" (which makes me think crispy and thin), but overall fine. BOTTOM LINE: Charming staff, fantastic setting, ample parking lot, good food, I'd definitely go back! read more

The Beach House was wonderful tonight! We met Chef Casey and his food was scrumptious! The tilapia on the goat cheese salad was superb! We ate outside with the fire pit lit ($30/ but so worth the ambiance) overlooking Lake Decatur in a star filled sky. Our server Makayla was courteous, attentive, and made great recommendations. Our only surprise was that there weren't more people enjoying this fabulous restaurant. Highly recommend! read more

I'm sorry to give this a low rating. My expectations were very high since I've been there many times over many years. I ordered the blackened grouper and I didn't taste even salt or pepper on the overcooked fish. No one in my party were impressed with their meal. The server was hard to find and appeared not to care if we had what we needed or not. No salt or pepper shakers on the table to at least season ourselves. What does it say when a four year old says his pasta needs salt? I won't be back until they have new cooks and/or management. read more

I come here about 3-4 times per year when traveling. I've had great experiences previously, I even brought my boss here, I wasn't fired, so she must have liked it. Last night was different. We waited a bit longer for service even though the place wasn't packed. They did have a table ready for us because we called ahead for a reservation. I would recommend this because you never know. I ordered the beef tips Marsala over pasta. I can't tell you how it was because I never received it. They brought me the mushroom risotto instead. I didn't send it back because I'm not picky but just saying. I also tried the calamari. It was nice and tender, not too chewy, real thick and the breading was good too.
