I went to the Beach House Restaurant on Jekyll Island looking forward to a relaxing breakfast. As I waited, a white waitress passed by my table several times. Each time, she seemed to look right through me. She greeted other customers, took orders, refilled drinks, and kept moving. Minutes turned into what felt like forever. I began to wonder if she even knew I was sitting there. Eventually, a Black hostess noticed that I had been waiting and stepped in. She apologized, took my order, and made sure I was finally served. When my omelette arrived, I tried to focus on enjoying my meal rather than dwelling on the experience. Then, after I had already received my food, the same waitress walked over to my table with a smile and asked, "How is your omelette?" I looked at her without saying a word. My expression said everything I was thinking: Where were you when I was waiting to be served? She got the message and moved on. I finished my meal, but the experience stayed with me long after I left the restaurant. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. A group of 4 of got there on a Sunday afternoon and the place was lonely. The waitress took her time to seat us down, didn't greet us and seemed irritated to sit us down. Never brought us water, she passed a few times without taking any orders. My family had a reservation for 20 for breakfast at 10:00 a.m. . When my family arrived the hostess manager whoever she was was very very rude, disgruntled and told us that we cannot all be seated at once because there were other customers that were coming in. Basically the bottom line my family who had a reservation and then later told we don't reserve for parties over 13 we can't help you. Because of the horrible attitude in the way we were treated we went to another restaurant locally where we were treated with respect. I do not recommend this restaurant with this type of management and attitude to anyone stay away from this place if you're trying to have a good time it will take the wind out of your sails. read more

Fun place on the water. We enjoyed dinner on the porch. I got the shrimp po boy and my wife for the boil. Both were delicious! They have a large variety of craft beer on tap. Our waitress was great. Crabcakes are fantastic with house made remoulade, mac & cheese was delicious (and we are a picky group when it comes to mac& cheese). Thanks to our server Lizzie, we sampled and fell in love with a local stout - Savannah Red. Our server Lizzie was terrific. She is very knowledgeable regarding the menu and ingredients and made great reccomendations. The chicken fingers had good flavor but were tough and chewy, skip those. We arrived around 7:30 pm new year's eve, hoping to have dinner. We were told that the kitchen would close at 8 (the suggestion being we shouldn't try to have dinner there that night). It seemed odd, given that some diners were clearly at the early stages of their meal. Called the restaurant phone line to ask another question, and it was out of service. Not sure what's going on with this place, but seems kind of fishy (pun intended), and guess I won't be trying to dine there any more. read more

We went to their Thanksgiving "feast." It was more like a soup kitchen. They ran out of turkey, pie, sweet potatoes and gravy. The servers were rude, management almost non-existent and the price. Over $100 for two people. Golden Corral would've been 5 stars next to this. read more

This is the best spot on the island if you love cold rubbery shrimp, a waitress who disappears and forgets your order, then charges you an extra $5 if you share your entree. The food was great! My fiancee and I came here for lunch on a Saturday, we both ordered drinks. My fiancee got the peach daiquiri and loved it, I got the peach margarita and it was great! We both ordered a chicken sandwich and were pleasantly surprised they had a gluten free bun for my fiancee. Very accommodating. And the fries are delicious and cut very uniquely! The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the service was a little slow for how slow the restaurant was when we got here. And for some reason the gnats were terrible today! What the heck happened to this place? We were here two years ago and it was pretty good...not great, but good. Today we went for lunch and wow, they couldn't get anything right. It was nearly empty but it was almost 5 minutes before the host even showed up to seat us. The place literally smelled like a toilet. "Reeked" would be close. Our server eventually appeared and just stood there looking at us. Not sure what they're smoking in the break room.. Anyway, we waited 24 minutes and never saw our food (couple of burgers and a wedge salad). So, we left. read more

This Tommy Bahama style place should not be missed on your next trip to Jekyll. It offers a fantastic experience in a comfortable space only steps from the Atlantic Ocean. The beers are local and the food is straightforward and tasty. It's just what an island night out is calling for. We arrived to a friendly hostess. Side note: Please, check in with hostesses in the Golden Isles. So many tourists come here, ignore the signs, and then yell when they sit for 20 minutes without a server. Seating by a hostess is how it's done here and how you can get good service in a timely manner. Just go with it! We sat at the bar where bar manager Arlene quickly won us over. She offers a good selection of beer and pours a good drink. I highly recommend any of the local selections they have or one of the featured cocktails on the board. Arlene and her team offer friendly and efficient service. We went with the grouper, mixed veggies and garlic mashed potatoes for dinner. The potatoes were so good! The veggies were not dripping in butter and the fish was fresh. We'll probably go for peel 'n eat shrimp next time. They looked so good at another table. The food was fantastic and the bar tender was fast. That's the good. However, at 6pm on a Tuesday 2 adults walked in and were told it would be a 40 min wait and that a party of 7 would be seated ahead of us. We sat at the bar. Looking around we could see MULTIPLE empty tables. Once we ordered it took easily 20 min for food to come out. Overall as a local I won't recommend. The food was just okay. I came down to the island with my family for my daughter's gymnastics competition and since it was getting late we chose to eat here. I think total we paid $135, just be mindful that this is not the same quality seafood as if you were in Florida or more touristy location. Overall it was tolerable...the drinks weren't that great but that's not a big deal...they do however, have a pretty good IPA! For it to be a little late and minimal guest service took a little while to get to us but nothing too bad. This is a good place to try if you're ever in the island! read more

Highly recommend against eating breakfast here. Went there Friday morning for breakfast. Service was awful. Waitress did not ask any table for drinks for at least 20 mins. She seemed angry that she still had tables. Table before us got served their food (finally) and eggs were undercooked, so they walked out without eating. I ordered scrambled eggs and that was not even fully cooked. Service, awful. Food, awful. Atmosphere looked cool. Probably a good spot to have a cocktail. Close to the water and next to a Holiday Inn. It was open and early enough I thought we'd give it a shot. 45 minutes or so on a table for four, not awful. Two alcoholic beverages, meh. They're okay but I doubt it had all it claimed by far. Kids meals are really a deal $4.89 for a drink, entree, side and dessert? Great. The adult main dishes were fine. Burger was just okay. Tortellini was not really good. Sauce tasted really off and the mussels/shrimp very rubbery. Rinsed some of the pasta off and that was edible. Service is fine. Arrived around 8 Saturday night restaurant full with an hour wait There was a track meet or something lots of high school students there. Cherri at the host station recommended the bar - we sat at the bar and it was perfect. Arlene ( think that's right ) was awesome as our bartender. We ordered fish and chips along with pulled pork egg rolls -- the food was GREAT and the service was FAST LABOR DAY weekend was busy but the bartender didn't miss a beat - on top of everything and very attentive I am glad we did not go by the bad reviews. I loved this place and the atmosphere everyone from waiters delivering food would speak and smile at you just because you made eye contact Everyone was very attentive. Food was tasty and filling not a huge menu selection but good options . Drinks were also delicious We have been to the island many times but this was our first time trying the beach house - glad we did and looking forward to the next visit . This was a very nice beach restaurant that provided everything we needed to cap a perfect evening. We had about a 30 minute wait for a table so we sampled some good cold beers on tap at the bar while we waited to be seated. Once our party sat, we had fried green tomatoes and fried calamari appetizers which were really good. I had my normal shrimp and grits entrée that I get every time I'm in the low country, and this was by far the best offering of that dinner that I've ever had. The sauce was remarkable, the grits were cheesy with Gouda inside them, and a lot of shaved Parmesan on top, then covered with lightly breaded and fried fresh shrimp. I've probably had this 30 different times at different restaurants over the years and this was my favorite. The service was remarkable and Kalyn took wonderful care of us. She needs a raise. When I am back on the island. I will surely come back. read more

We were staying at the adjacent Holiday Inn, so it was convenient to walk over for Sunday brunch, It's hard to fail at brunch, but they managed. First, long line at hostess stand, plenty of empty tables but no hostess in sight. We eventually learned the dour looking lady wiping tables was the hostess, however she went about her table-wiping duties without a greeting or so much as a glance at the families crowding the entrance. When she finally acknowledged our party, she left again to wipe another table for our seating. No "hello" or "good morning," nothing. She seated us and left immediately. Several minutes later she came back to inform us it was buffet service only and took our beverage orders. We were not informed of the cost. We sat for 15 mins until our server arrived- a very cheerful, friendly woman- who asked us what we wanted to drink. We let her know we had already placed our order with the hostess. "She probably forgot" was her reply. We went to the buffet line and discovered there were no plates. Eventually someone brought out a stack of extremely hot plates which were difficult to handle and I decided not to put fresh fresh fruit on them for fear of cooking it. The items on the buffet were what one would expect from a Hilton free breakfast buffet: trays of grits, scrambled eggs, sausage, limp under-cooked bacon, yogurt, and a few packaged pastries. No juice or other beverages on the buffet. We were well underway eating when our drinks finally arrived. Our cheerful server promised she'd be back to check on us. Call me an optimist? We saw no one else for the duration. We had long finished eating when the Dour Lady came by doing her table wipe thing. Couldn't get her to make eye contact so I finally had to say, "excuse me Ma'am, could we please get the check?" She told us she'd try to find our server. More time passes and Cheerful arrives with the check only now informing us the price for 2 meals was $34. At no time were we told the price of the buffet before we ate. Frankly, had we known the cost of the mediocre (being generous) food, we would have gone somewhere else. Only positive thing about the experience was the nice view of the ocean from the screened in porch. read more

The staff doesn't seem very knowledgeable about drink selection or food. We asked about specials and were told that chowder and gumbo were the same thing?! Also we were told they only had the fall selection of beer (not what is listed on the menu).. in April. Might be true, but if so it's definitely odd. When we first arrived we were greeted by a snappy exchange by the hostess and waitress. Very awkward as that same waitress was the one who served us. All in all, the food was good. Immediately after entering on a not so busy afternoon we were met with an attitude and a face palm from Jenae after telling her we had 7 (4 adults, 3 kids) and a couple dogs to sit on the porch. Fortunately our server, Brittany walked up and took over. Brittany completely changed our experience. We went from feeling like our presence was unwanted to an amazing positive experience. She was amazing. Great attitude and did an amazing job taking care of us and our pups. Food was great but our server really turned our experience around. We went there for breakfast on April 7, during our Easter vacations in the Golden Isles. Place was recommended in the Golden Isles visitor guide. Chose the place because we were looking for breakfast in a pet friendly outdoor patio and it was advertised as such in the guide. Just to confirm, I called before heading there and a lady answered and confirmed this information. Upon arrival at about 9.30 am, there was a long line waiting to be seated. A lone lady was seating clients, and arranging the tables, seeming clearly outmanned and frustrated. When my turn came after more that 15 minutes in line, I asked for a table for 3, and a pet, outside in the patio. She looked at me with a long sigh and frustrated look. And I mentioned I had called ahead. She said "well, not today" and I had to confirm that I had called that same morning. She then rudely answered "You're gonna have to wait" and disappeared. We were eventually seated. The food was ok. A buffet, very basic. Our server, unlike the hostess at the entrance, was wonderful and very helpful. I just feel that this place's management should be careful to have a hostess that is rude to customers. Being outmanned is not the client's fault and she should NOT take it out on customers. read more
