    Side of Texas chilli
    Kaylee L.

I ordered to go but still had to wait about 10 min after the expected pick up time. There is a nice outdoor patio with interesting decor so the wait wasn't bad. I ordered the turkey plate which came with two sides and I chose green beans and Mac n cheese. The turkey was pleasantly moist and tender with a slight smokiness that wasn't overbearing. The green beans were not overcooked and the mac n cheese was spot on, not overly cheesy. The corn bread has blue berries so I was expecting it to be sweet but it wasn't at all and was very moist. The whole meal just came really well together and I like that they provided a pat of butter for the bread. The complaint I have would be the proportions. The turkey provided was only a few slices while the corn bread was massive in comparison. I would have preferred more of the main entree rather than the bread. I also got an additional side of Texas chilli which was full of flavor and amazing but I was surprised that it came in a shallow container that was smaller than the other 2 sides yet was $10. It was enjoyable though and I had it with some tortilla chips. Given that, I might still return when I'm in the area and feel like treating myself to some BBQ.

Brisket salad is sad and uninspiring for the price.

Very cool BBQ spot tucked away like a little oasis. Looks like it was a house at one time that's been converted into a restaurant. Huge comfy patio plus some inside seating. Parking is limited and you can get trapped if someone pulls in behind you so make sure to look before pulling in too far. I wasn't lucky enough to snag a spot but there was plenty of street parking. The burnt ends appetizer was 5 stars BBQ perfection. Melt in your mouth tender, saturated with smokiness, and had a delicious dry rub. Unfortunately nothing else compared. My brisket salad was truly sad and uninspired for the price. Zero creativity in this boring salad. The brisket was horrible. Zero flavor and so chewy I thought I was eating a sirloin steak at Denny's. I can't believe this was slow cooked like the burnt ends. Total waste of money. Even the honey mustard was an odd choice and did not work. My wife's two item combo was no better. Same chewy flavorless brisket along with completely flavorless sausage. She had to drown everything in BBQ sauce which was very good. We also had Fried okra which as good. You get your own drinks but they do bring out your food and clean up your table so the up front tip is warranted. Service was extremely friendly. Maybe it was a bad day but my wife and I both agreed we wouldn't return.

Half rack of BBQ ribs, sausage, brisket, baked beans, sweet potato fries, and cornbread.

My wife and I went to this place for the first time on the 4th of July. We are not foodies but thought we would give this place a try. The food was absolutely delicious! Everything on our 2 combo platter tasted great! The servers were hospitable and very helpful. We did not have to wait long to get our food. We ate outside but the the inside was welcoming and clean. Overall, we give the restaurant an A+ and we will be eating there again soon!

Brisket meal with their homemade spicy bbq sauce, Mac n cheese is homemade and delicious and same with their potato salad!

Amazing food! All homemade food with the best flavor! Friendly service and cute little place! You order at the counter, then sit and they bring it out! Highly recommend! Everything was delicious!! And to top it off they have country music playing! Yay! The best! We will definitely be back!

Good BBQ in a cool little hidden driveway. Picked this place randomly and was not disappointed. Good flavor food nice size portions and the service and ambiance were great.

Another great dinner at Beach Pit! The vinegar-based coleslaw was perfectly tangy, the collard greens were flavorful, and the corn muffin hit the spot. The pulled pork was especially impressive--tender and lean with no excess fat. Always a solid choice!

Must try restaurant in the OC! Blown away by their service and the quality of their food! I'm not really a BBQ fan but this wasn't too heavy! The staff were so nice and courteous! The brisket and pulled park was well worth it! Best part- pricing very fair. Thank you for a pleasant time with friends on a Friday night!

This review is for the online ordering. Ordered for pick up at 3:15. Received an email confirming my food would be ready at 3:15. Called to let them know I had arrived in the parking lot at 3:20, and the employee told me she would bring out the food when it was ready. It is now 3:40 and I am still waiting in my car. What is the point of having a set pick up time when you don't have the food ready within a reasonable time of the scheduled pick up? I could understand a delay of 10 minutes or less, but 25 minutes plus is outrageous. The food itself is good, just be prepared to wait even if you order online with a specific pick up time.

First time visitors, and we are so glad to have found this place! Food was incredible, portions were great, and the people there were so friendly! Will definitely be coming back to bring my bbq fanatic grandparents :-) Also the outdoor seating was so cozy and welcoming.

I am not sure if I want to share this cause if it truly is found there will be wait times. Marvin the chef knows what he is doing. We ordered the sampler so we could try all their barbecued meats; ribs, chicken, pulled pork, turkey with a side of coleslaw and Mac and cheese. The meat will melt in your mouth and the barbecue sauce is perfect. The coleslaw is a vin egret which is a nice change from chain restaurants. The service here is exceptional. Thank you Alex, Christian, chef and everyone else who made our experience so special. Ambience is nice plenty of tables outside and inside. Heat lamps with music playing They have been around for 20 years! Hidden gem for sure. Yum!

Chopped brisket, burnt ends, ribs, macaroni & cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, and pulled pork! All the staples.

We've been consistent customers of Beach Pit Barbecue for a couple of years now and they are truly one of the most reliable and consistent places in the area. I personally love the ribs. They are perfectly seasoned, not overdone, and you can enjoy them without sauce if that is your preference, which it is for me. The texture is spot on, tender enough to bite into without falling off the bone, and never chewy. The meats are always cooked just right, moist, flavorful, and consistently excellent. The staff at Beach Pit are fantastic as well. If you have the chance to dine in, the sit-down area is beautiful and a really enjoyable space to visit. I also appreciate their sides. They are made the classic way with no modern twists, which I love for that authentic barbecue experience. For quality, consistency, and true barbecue flavor, Beach Pit Barbecue is my number one pick in the area above all else.

    Pulled pork sandwich

Great food! Had the pulled pork sandwich with french fries. French fries were perfectly crispy, tender meat. Spicy sauce wasn't very spicy, but big fan of the mild sauce, nice subtle sweetness that goes a long way. Not a crumb left, beer was a little pricey but joins the 8 club at a solid 8.3 for Beach Pit BBQ!

Second time coming in to eat here, and it unfortunately wasn't as great this time around as it was my first time coming in. The place is super cute, The servers are nice, + everything came out quickly but The meat was lukewarm, and not very hot. The ribs were good, the had a nice smoke ring and fell off the bone, the pulled pork was a bit dry and cold , and Brisket was slightly chewy ,and the sausage wasn't great it was cold and had a weird texture. The baked beans were my fav side dish loved the addition of kidney beans and it was a nice sweetness, savory balance ! However, The Mac n cheese had little to no flavor and was watery, the coleslaw was pungently vinegary , it was way too overpowered. Corn bread was super dry and the blueberry one tasted slightly undercooked / floury . Overall don't think I'll be returning

The pairing of the rich mole sauce and sweet potato puree takes the dish to an entirely different level, complementing each other effortlessly. Baklava Cheesecake: A creative and delicious twist on a classic. The cream cheese filling is light rather than dense, and instead of a traditional graham cracker crust, it features a fantastic baklava crust. I came shortly after they opened on a Saturday and they had a line as per usual. It's always a crowd here! But, it feels trendy and charming. They have a seasonal menu and a concrete menu. On my two visits, I ordered the Dessert Glaze with whole milk ($7.50) and the Straight from Kyoto ($7.50) with maple walnut milk. Both drinks I ordered were $7.50 and the price doesn't include tax, so I paid ~$8 in total per drink. They don't add too much ice, so you get a good amount. The Dessert Glaze wasn't very memorable, but I really enjoyed their matcha with the maple walnut milk! The taste was similar to a hazelnut creamer, and the drink wasn't too sweet because their matcha is very strong and full-bodied. My friend ordered the Arnold Palmer, and it was kind of watery so I wouldn't recommend their lemonades. The drinks can take a while depending on how busy they are, but whether you can find a table or sit at the bar, there's usually somewhere to sit. The ambiance here is great, with a bathroom, trendy decor, and a community-feel. It has been hot lately, and they don't run AC, however. So, be mindful of that. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

The chips and salsa were really good. The aguachile had a nice spicy flavor that made it stand out. The queso fundido was SO good super cheesy, and paired with the handmade tortillas it was one of my favorites. We also ordered the calamari and I was surprised by how good it was. Everyone ordered different rounds of cocktails throughout the night and honestly, not one missed. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy Friday night, so that's somewhat expected. I've been here before and the grilled octopus tacos and carne asada burrito were just as good as I remembered them. They also made the birthday celebration really cute. They sang happy birthday, brought out a small ice cream, and gave my friend a big mariachi hat. Good food, great drinks, and still consistent as I remembered it. So long Playa Mesa. 9.5/10

The hostess was friendly, and our server was funny and kind. He was a little less attentive as it got busier, but the staff worked well as a team, so we never had to wait for refills or anything we needed. Parking in the back can be a little tight. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, and I loved the inside-out cheese crust. My husband's fajitas were flavorful, although the chicken was a little overdone. The guacamole was excellent, especially with the pepita seeds adding great texture. Overall, we enjoyed the flavorful food, service, and atmosphere. We'd definitely come back!
