Great breakfast, friendly service, and cute indoor space! Outside seating is available.

I was introduced to Eat Chow by a close friend and overall had a pretty good experience. Their service was surprisingly quick, the food came out in 15 minutes from the time we ordered. The iced horchata matcha latte leaned much heavier on the horchata flavor, so don't expect a strong matcha taste if that's what you're looking for. The best thing we ordered was definitely the Chow Chorizo Burrito. It was fully stuffed, the chorizo was seasoned really well, and the avocado balanced everything nicely. I'd absolutely order this again or even pick up to-go for a full beach day. We also got the Strawberry Haute Cakes, which were massive, fluffy pancakes topped with fresh strawberries. Definitely a good option if you're sharing. A couple of things to note - parking is pretty limited, which is honestly expected for this area, so just plan ahead. The interior also feels a bit cramped for the amount of seating they try to fit in, but the space is at least nicely decorated and has a cozy vibe. Would come back here again for brunch, but only in small groups of 2-4 people.

I had the prime breakfast burrito and it was delicious. Often times places under season the individual ingredients in burritos, and that was not the case here. The meat and potatoes were perfectly seasoned to the point you didn't need salsa to elevate the experience. Although I did add it because of the spice level. Next time I'm down here I will definitely be back to try some of the other offerings.

Eat Chow is one of those places. That is such a great surprise, it's a little hole-in-the-wall place down a side street but is definitely worth the visit. Parking can be a little bit tricky, but if you get there early enough you're in for a treat. One of the things I love about this place is it's very casual atmosphere, that really feels like you're eating at a friend's house for breakfast. The place is well kept, has plenty of outdoor seating if you choose, and inside. Has a very pleasant tasteful decor that is very casual and warm and inviting. I have not eaten here for lunch, as it's always been a breakfast place for me. Everything on the menu is stellar. And I've never had a bad experience here at all. This particular trip, I wanted to try something that I had never had before so I opted for the chow prime breakfast burrito... Which has strips of prime rib, hash browns, two eggs, onions and peppers, and is served with this amazing homemade salsa. The homemade salsa should also be a controlled substance, because I had three of them and I could probably take some home. I am a big fan of coffee, and their coffee does not disappoint. Super tasty. Just strong enough and unlimited refills. Their weight staff is absolutely perfect. If you go there, ask for Alex, super chill guy, attentive without being overbearing, and ready to make suggestions. He was definitely part of the wonderful dining experience. Bottom line? When you are in Costa Mesa and you are looking for a place to have breakfast, you owe it to yourself to go to Eat Chow. I'm not saying it'll change your life, I'm just saying it will change your life.

Used to come here all the time when I worked in the area, so made a trip over to see if it held up. The hole in the wall has expanded to a decently sized 50s diner aesthetic restaurant and the quality has remained solid. Had a quite excellent burger with a salad and a bowl of French onion soup. Service was pleasant and attentive for my group of four. Happy to see the place is as good as I remember. Now just have to hope they could bring back The Fried Egg breakfast plate, that was amazing and I miss it. But sadly I think it's lost to time.

This is a small brunch spot with a large menu and lots to offer! We had a large party that they were able to accommodate. We got everything from the sweet to savory options and lattes. Each plate was prepared well. The sandwiches were very filling and the I was stuffed after 2 out of 3 of the pancakes. The churro French toast was the most unique and the tostadas were our favorite thing we tried!

So my Mom is a vegetarian but my Dad is a meat lover who only likes American and Italian food which makes going out to eat with my parents difficult since basically we can go to Italian or American restaurants and in this part of Costa Mesa that's pretty much Nicks or Eat Chow and everyone in my family actually prefers the food at Eat Chow! They have really good food here! I'm always pleasantly surprised that whatever I order is delicious - especially the soups, salads and artichoke appetizer. My mom loves the cauliflower too.

Tried this location as I love the one in Newport and safe to stay, it's just as amazing! Service was attentive, overall ambience was great (not too loud), plenty of areas for parking, and of course, the food was delicious! One thing I want to point out though is that I ordered crispy potatoes on the side and was served tater tots (not sure if the ran out, or if this location is different)...was a bit let down as I LOVE the crispy potatoes at the Newport location but these were still good. Also recommend to get chipotle aioli/ranch on the side for the potatoes!

I am an original Eat Chow enthusiast. Been loving this place since they opened. I will always and forever claim they have the BEST SALMON SANDWICH anywhere. I moved away from Orange County many years ago but must always come back here to get a taste of home away from home. I am disheartened that they changed their salad dressing recipe. My little family of 3 enjoyed our brunch on a cool, sunny afternoon on the patio. Always friendly and attentive staff and tasty food. Highly recommend!

@eatchow you guys killed it. Came to have brunch and was not disappointed the burrito breakfast was super good and the breakfast sandwich was on spot. Love the hospitality and drinks were amazing give this place a 4.5 spoons

Killer double smash burger w/ sweet potato fries
    Jocelin B.

I tried the Killer Smash Burger and WOW... 10/10. It was so satisfying -- perfectly cooked with caramelized onions and chilis that gave it the perfect amount of spice without being overwhelming. Definitely a must-try! The sweet potato fries never disappoint, and adding cheese just takes them to another level. And don't even get me started on the truffle fries... so addicting, definitely meant for sharing (or not). If you're thinking about trying something new here, this is your sign!

Totally understandable as it's peak summer, and a weekend, they get busy. The restaurant was hot and humid. Now I'm sure they have AC, and even with all the windows and patio doors being open, they really should have opted to use the AC. The entire dining experience was uncomfortable. We ate our meal literally sweating. Even our server was sweating lol All our drinks went room temp in a matter of 10 minutes, we had to repeatedly ask for glasses of ice from the bar just to try and mitigate our body temperatures somehow. Also, the booth itself was incredibly tacky. And I don't mean visually tacky, I mean the texture. The feeling of plastic when it gets really old and it feels sticky to the touch, that tacky. You couldn't slide in or out of that booth if your life depended on it. And again, considering how humid and hot the interior was, it only made it worse. The lighting was also so dim that it gave the vibes of being sat in the corner of a musky Denny's diner lol. Halfway through our meal they turned the lights off for dinner service (I get it, to set the mood) but it made the table so dark we had to ask them to turn them back on so we could see the food on our plates. It wasn't that the entire restaurant was dim, it's certain tables (and sadly ours was definitely one of them) We had a party of 6, and one person got their meal well before the rest of the table. We of course insisted she begin eating, which she did, and our remaining meals came out as soon as she was done with hers. The waiter removed her plate as he set down everyone else's lol. The food was good, but, again with how uncomfortable the environment was, it was hard to enjoy. The restaurant was also fairly empty throughout our meal. We got there before 5 so that awkward "linner" time frame. Even so, we had to flag down our waiter for another round of drinks, water, etc. The Shorebird absolutely has stunning views, and that's what they're known for. Their food is solid, mist dishes fairly justifies the high price point. This visit was just not their best. Overall service and ambiance, fell extremely flat. I set the bar high for my guests, as they traveled in from out of town and I raved about my experience from a few months back. Granted, I was sat at the patio, overlooking the beautiful view, and the service was impeccable. With all the stellar dining options in Newport, unless you find yourself at a table on the balcony, I don't think Shorebird is the obvious choice. You'll end up spending the money regardless so you may as well look for a spot that is guaranteed to meet the expectations of the price point without having to be dependent on a view.

The chips and salsa were really good. The aguachile had a nice spicy flavor that made it stand out. The queso fundido was SO good super cheesy, and paired with the handmade tortillas it was one of my favorites. We also ordered the calamari and I was surprised by how good it was. Everyone ordered different rounds of cocktails throughout the night and honestly, not one missed. Service was a little slow, but it was a busy Friday night, so that's somewhat expected. I've been here before and the grilled octopus tacos and carne asada burrito were just as good as I remembered them. They also made the birthday celebration really cute. They sang happy birthday, brought out a small ice cream, and gave my friend a big mariachi hat. Good food, great drinks, and still consistent as I remembered it. So long Playa Mesa. 9.5/10

The hostess was friendly, and our server was funny and kind. He was a little less attentive as it got busier, but the staff worked well as a team, so we never had to wait for refills or anything we needed. Parking in the back can be a little tight. The birria tacos were packed with flavor, and I loved the inside-out cheese crust. My husband's fajitas were flavorful, although the chicken was a little overdone. The guacamole was excellent, especially with the pepita seeds adding great texture. Overall, we enjoyed the flavorful food, service, and atmosphere. We'd definitely come back!
