It was my husband and his twin brothers birthday so we decided to go to one of his favorite spots, Beach pit BBQ! Not only have they completely redone the entire restaurant but their back patio is completely brand new and fully equipped with heaters and a huge bar top! It was absolutely perfect for our party of 20! The owner Gary was so welcoming and kept checking on us throughout the whole night along with the entire staff, making sure we had very thing we needed! He started us off with a couple orders of sweet potato fries (on the house) which we knew were straight out of the kitchen, given the steam coming from them. They were paired with the amazing house ranch and also their unreal BBQ ranch (I could put that stuff on anything)!! We also got an order of fried pickles and their loaded baked potatoes, which were topped with their signature pulled pork!! I really can't say enough about this place other than if you haven't been, YOU HAVE TO TRY!!! The service and the food is out of this world!! We will definitely be back, hands down! read more

The location is very nice and clean, the staff is very friendly, but the food is subpar. I've been there twice and have been disappointed both times. Their pulled pork has no flavor. I bit into my pulled pork sandwich and tasted nothing. I decided to add BBQ sauce and still hardly tasted anything. Their baked beans are strange. Their coleslaw is more like sour slaw haha! This place looks nice and is trendy and that's probably the only reason why it's open. The food is so mediocre! I had the beef sandwich, baked beans, and fries. The beans were unique and the best part of the meal. The beef was moist but lacked the smoke flavor of really good barbeque. The sauce tended to over power any flavor the meat might of had. However, this place is much better than Wood Ranch. read more

This is as close to home cookin as you can get behind the Orange Curtain. My fav is the smoked turkey. The mac n cheese is good. I make my own pulled pork in my smoker at home so I have not yet eaten theirs. Come early and hungry you wont be disappointed. The meat and the nice man that served us are the only reasons I can give this place any stars at all. The man taking our order seemed kind of annoyed with us as we were trying to decide what to order (maybe because it was a half hour before closing? IDK, but whatever, if you have a problem with it, then close at 7 not 8, if you're open you should be happy to see customers). The facility was clean and had a homey vibe to it, and the service was relatively fast- the guy who delivered our order was friendly and suggested his favorite bbq sauce and all, so kudos on the good attitude for him. I got sliders (2 pulled pork and 1 sausage) with a side of mac, my husband got the brisket with coleslaw and mac, and we split a basket of fried pickles. My sliders were really good, the pork was tender and their bbq sauce is decent. The brisket was also really good, tender and juicy. As far as everything else goes though, bleck. The coleslaw was not good, and the mac and cheese tasted like some grainy microwaved stuff (in talking after the meal, we decided maybe he suggested that because it was easy/fast to prepare? idk really...), and the fried pickles were so over-fried that there was no pickle meat in them. literally crunchy coins of deep fried nothing. We really wanted to like this place. Like I said, the meat is really good, and the place is cute and quaint, but unless you hate money and are looking for a good place to get rid of it quick- save yourself the disappointment. read more

We have been looking for a good take out bbq for the past few months, as we always go to the same places, and wanted something different. The place is adorable. The parking is a challenge. We picked up our food to go. I was not impressed. I started with the fried pickles, which had to much seasoning that reminded me of a dorito flavor. I ordered the 1 meat plate with the two sides. I chose the brisket which was floavorless. It was tender, but it did not seem to be cooked in bbq sauce. My coleslaw was pretty good. The corn bread was bland and the mac and cheese tasted like stouffers. This could have been an off night so I am willing to try again. read more

My husband & I and our 2 children went to BeachPit BBQ in Aliso Viejo, assuming these are all the same... do NOT dine there! We ordered the "Big Dog Daddy" much to our dismay the ribs were thrown in the trash, the pork was barely touched & the chicken was picked at. My salad, "The Salad" was disappointing to say the least, CANNED corn!!?? We would rather spent $10.95 on an amazing salad, not a worthless one. And our 2 boys, 4yrs old & 18months old. The "Mac n Cheese" meal with, umm 6 french fries?? Their version of Mac & Chesse.. well lets just say Kraft macaroni & cheese is AMAZING compared to their pathetic 1/4c. scoop they serve to kids. When your "BBQ" food is bland & tasteless, and the kid's juice is teh best thing you have there... go somewhere else!! Save your money or go to McDonalds, or better yet, spend a few extra dollars and head to Lucille's BBQ in Lake Forest. If you are planning on a catering order plan to wait at least an hour. Yesterday with Super bowl I arrived 15 minutes prior to my scheduled pick up time for a pre-order placed 1 week ago. Wait time was over an hour and 15 minutes and the owner although professional and doing his best did not have the support staff to assist him. Lost orders, people cutting in line and standing time - an employee who said she was there for 6.5 years said that it is always like this and "to get used to it" - was very rude to an older lady who had her order lost after paying. Everyone loves their ribs but their customer service, employee engagement, and attention to detail for take out orders could be vastly improved. The same waitress informed us all standing in the line, that Christmas is even worse - may want to consider this for holidays or other event planning. I used to love this place. The food was always pretty good and it was a fun place for kids and adults alike. However, the last few times I've visited, the food and the service has gone way down hill! On my last visit, the staff was down right rude. I brought a girlfriend who had never been to the restaurant. She was looking over the menu board, trying decide what to order. When she asked the cashier (who I believe is either the owner or manager) a few questions, he seemed totally put off, he gave her one word answers, and then rudely told her move, so he could help the one guy standing behind us, who had just walked in the door. After ordering, I politely asked one of the servers if he could clear off one of the tables for our group. He rudely replied, those people just left, give me a minute. Actually, the table had been vacant prior to us ordering, but that's kind of beside the point. We sat at the dirty table for at least another 5 minutes while he refilled other tables drinks, and chatted it up with another group that seemed to be his friends. I realize this is a casual dining establishment, but casual doesn't give you an excuse to be lazy! As for the food, it was below average. The meat was overly dry and fries were pretty soggy. Finally, both the manager and the server seemed totally put off our kids were playing on the little play structure. The kids were not being overly loud or disruptive to other guests. If you don't want kids playing, don't put a flipping play structure in your restaurant!!! But don't worry, I will gladly be taking my kids, my friends, and my money to a different restaurant!!! read more

this is one of those rare eateries in OC, in a land of chain restaurants and typical sterile strip malls, that stands out from the rest. tucked away between commecial and residental space, this quaint bbq outfit is a place where you want to just kick back, relax, and take in some good food. and with its hidden quiet location, away from the hustle of the costa mesa traffic, and the outdoor patio surrounded by soothing landscape, you definitely can. this place features typical southern favorites like pulled pork, brisket and ribs. on this visit i got a pulled chicken sandwich (i know i know, should have gotten pulled pork but i was trying to watch my diet). the sandwich comes with a choice of two sides, of which i picked the blueberry cornbread and baked beans. the chicken was extremely tender, with what they called 'spicy' bbq sauce (i found the bbq beans more spicy). i loved the bun it was served on, light and soft, but just hardy enough to hold up to the saucing. the blueberry cornbread was good, but sweet and dense, almost dessert like (more similar to the mexican corn cakes than cornbread). the only thing keeping me from handing out 5 stars was the lack of smoke flavor in the meat (both in my chicken and in my friends pulled pork). nada.. none which i could detect. this is bbq right? that aside, this place is charming enough to want to come back and try some of the other dishes. read more
