Great place for breakfast! Everything is super good and the staff is friendly as well. I had the traditional eggs benedict and it was perfect. I asked if they could make my daughters pancakes with blueberries for one and chocolate chips for another and they accommodated the request which is really nice. when you order a breakfast burrito in San Diego you assume it won't be soaking wet and literally fall apart like a wet paper towel the first time you pick it up. Also the tapatio hot sauce bottles have the pourer caps removed so the hot sauce pours out like a water fall all over your food and table. Stick with the bacon and eggs, haven't had them mess that up yet. It also seems like there are always twice as many people working here than needed. Atmosphere, staff, and Coffee Cake were fantastic, but..... Classic Eggs Benedict is the dish by which I rate all breakfast joints on my first visit. It is the skill with which a chef prepares this simple yet devilishly difficult-to-perfect dish that inspires me to return or not to return to sample a restaurant's remaining menu. I am sorry to say that on Memorial Day 2016 the Eggs Benedict was not up to snuff English Muffin was under-toasted. Basically just warmed. Ham (Canadian Bacon?) was just a pre-sliced circle of pork product. The eggs looked poached but were JUST short of hard boiled. This alone is a killer. Finally, I always order the Hollandaise sauce on the side in case a chef is over-zealous. the sauce had coagulated (congealed?) to the point that I had to push aside a skin to get to the sauce. Went here on a whim to try something new in Carlsbad. Service was good, We arrived around 11 and had a 15 min wait, which is not bad for Sunday brunch. They have coffee and coffee cake outside while you're waiting to snack on. That was a really nice touch. I ordered french toast which sounded great on the menu but in actuality came out like dry plain toast. I don't mean dry french toast, it was like regular toasted bread. Maybe they forgot to dip it in any egginess? Even my friend mentioned it looked like toasted bread and I should return it. But since im not one to complain I just left it alone. Lesson learned. I'll definitely stick to Cafe Topes when in Carlsbad for brunch. read more

This is my favorite breakfast place in Carlsbad. I have never had anything bad here and my favorite dish is the Migas with potato side. I don't find the Migas very spicy but some might think so with the jalapenos. The potatoes are a must! They make their own jams which are delicious and are a must try! Why do you have a 30 minute call ahead if you dont use it? From the time I called to the time I was seated it was almost an hour. I called ahead as recommended and left my name and number. I got my confirmation text and headed to the restaurant. I made sure the hostess knew we were here. Explain to me why it took almost an hour to seat us? And that's only because I went and reminded the hostess I was still waiting. I watched other patrons get a text alerting them that their tables were ready. So why was I the exception? Really great brunch location! We used the waitlist option on Yelp so that our table was almost ready when we got there which is so convenient. Started with the iced white mocha and coffee cake, both were great. I had the smoked salmon on potato pancake and my husband had the breakfast biscuit sandwich. No complaints!
