We stopped in here after reading all the good reviews on ylep. The food was really good but we waited over a half hour in line just to order. They had customers in front of us and all three ladies worked in the back instead of taking orders. It also took abnormaly long to get two cold sandwitches and a cup of the daily soup. The dinning room has potential and the vibe could be great but it was stuffy and uncomfortable. Though I wish I could like this place. This is a very cool place, but it's also very weird. First of all, their menu is limited to what they can source locally. You can take that as good or bad, but for me it limited my options. Second they don't make any type of eggs for breakfast other that poached. Scrambled eggs seems pretty standard for any breakfast place. When I asked why, the girl working there (who was very friendly) told me "legal reasons". Third, if you want a hot drink there you need to bring your own cup or buy a Mason jar from them. For people like me, who is camping nearby, that doesn't really work out. All in: food was good, very weird place. read more

A friendly and unexpected cafe in Trinidad, the Beachcomber has been where I walk to first when we come to the beaches nearby. They have a wide selection of breakfast and brunch items, as well as baked goods served either fresh or a day old for a dollar or so off the price. There's a 50 cent discount for bringing in your own mug and they always offer to rinse it out for you, which I appreciate. In airpots right next to the register, they have usually at least five different blends of coffee, darkest to the left, lightest to the right. I've never actually stuck around inside for more than a few minutes but it seems like a cozy little place to hang out with some coffee and your laptop, and the walls (at least currently) are decorated with prints and originals by a local 'psychedelic landscape) artist named Toad, who does really good work by my book. Everything in the Beachcomber seems fairly priced and it's a treat to have a place like it in such a small town. It really adds to the charm. read more

The best cafe in Trinidad! Well I haven't been to others, but as far as cafés go, it doesn't get much better than this. Good strong coffee, and a wide variety of pastries and breakfast items, with gluten free and vegan options. The coffee is a great deal at any size cup. The different sizes + refills are priced linearly, but refills cost, so if you're trying to caffeinate like me, you might as well start off with a 20oz and only get back up to purchase a refill if you really need any more than that. BYO cup or enjoy your morning by drinking it here to avoid a surcharge for (and waste of) a disposable cup. The food was a little pricey, but it was healthy, wholesome, and delicious. The specialty bagels are great, and so was just a regular "multicultural" bagel topped with housemade tapenade. Especially satisfying with the local hot sauces they have on the counter! The walls are adorned with beautiful local art and there's plenty of seating inside, as well as a big patio area with picnic tables outside. read more

It's about the least original name you could ever come up with, but a great place. There is so much junky, greasy food in Eureka, so for us SF city folk, this was real relief, a small, friendly place with interesting, tasty, healthy food. Made a pit stop here while driving from Eureka to Ashland. We had stopped to check out the little lighthouse and the Humboldt State Marine Lab nearby. The wait was a bit long, but the service seemed personal and friendly. We ordered the blonde roast with the housemade almond milk. They let you pour your own coffee, then fill up the rest with the milk for you. It was pretty tasty! We enjoyed our coffees in house, since they charged for to-go cups. read more

Two friends and I spent a night at an adorable airbnb in Trinidad. The host mentioned this place to us as a great option for good breakfast in the morning.. fresh quiches, organic ingredients, excellent coffee.. yea, that sounds good to us! The boys had, I dunno... like, a bowl of veggies and beans... honestly, it looked like nachos or a veggie burrito without the nachos or the tortilla, and, basically, tasted exactly the same... if the nachos or burrito were excellent. They were damn good. And they really loved the coffee. I'm not a coffee man, but they were really pleased. I had a cup of a ginger-butternut squash soup, and the quiche of the day which had mushrooms and other deliciousnesses in it. Everything was great! Oh, and the raw desserts........ definite win! Raw peppermint patties..... I'm so happy someone had that idea! And the art on display......... while we were there, they had Rocky Whitlow's "Left Hanging" series of broken hearts........ I really wish I had a few hundred extra dollars on me. That is all. This place is pretty cool. Will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. read more

I really wanted to rate this place highly. I really do. But I did not like the food they served. I ordered a Ham Panini with coffee. Coffee was good but the ham panini could have been better. Nothing but the best! Out on a Road trip down the coast back home to the SF bay area we hit up Beachcomber and it was a knock out! Got a Panini, a good beer and some bread pudding, a perfect lunch for all my family. This place is amazing! Fresh, organic, locally sourced! They don't even have to go cups...you can buy a reusable mason jar for $1 if you want. Baked goods are all worth getting, even the day after! Soups are full of flavor and their sandwiches are just so yummy and thoughtful! Nothing else like it in Trinidad, let alone much of Humboldt County. So glad they opened one in Arcata now too. Review overview: okay/good food, great kombucha on tap, rude customer service, will never return to this cafe. This cafe looked like my kind of place from the outside, and on the inside I wasn't disappointed either. They had delicious cherry-rose kombucha on tap, an assortment of delicious-looking baked goods, and lots of local art up on the wall. However, they are extremely lacking in the customer service department. We ordered two of the "beachcomber benedict"s we clearly said the word Benedict and we didn't think much of it when she asked us about bagels because maybe it came on a bagel that day, it seemed like that kind of "day to day" place. We were brought two bagels with cream cheese, avocado, and tons of red onions all over them. I am not a huge fan of onions and there was no eggs or hollandaise sauce in sight, so I went up to the front counter to figure out what happened. A blonde woman came out to help us (I'm assuming she was the owner) I explained politely how the food wasn't what I ordered, and that there must have been a miscommunication. She immediately said that "we are both at fault" for me answering the question about the bagels. She said the only thing she could do was bring us one order of what we wanted and that "one of [us] would just have to eat what they brought" us because "otherwise [she] is losing money here", I explained to her that I wasn't looking for free food and that I would pay the difference to get the food that I wanted, she was extremely rude and accusatory throughout the whole exchange and they even messed up another one of our orders by bringing out a double espresso instead of a double americano like we ordered. On top of the rude service she ended up charging me almost full price (again) instead of paying the difference, we spent almost $40 for two orders of Benedict, an americano, and a kombucha. I work at a cafe, that's why I was so appalled by the quality of customer service I received. Whenever a customer comes up telling me I made something wrong, even if it is what they ordered I am extremely apologetic and I make them whatever it is they thought they ordered at no extra charge. That's just how good customer service works. I think that because we were tourists they treated us differently than regulars? I am in the Humboldt area a lot, but I will never be going there again. The food was good, the kombucha was amazing and I was happy to see it on tap, but it's the service that will have me never coming back. read more

Smoked tuna fish sandwich was very delicious. Organic tomatoes were fresh and the smoked tuna was moist and flavorful. Bread was baked with rosemary and had a nice crust. Service is relaxed, nobody in a rush. Would definitely go again. read more

It really should be called heavenly food near the beach. We've been coming here for years. The food is so fresh and good here. The Tuna salad sandwich on Brio bread is outstanding. (Also note, make sure you go to Brio in Arcata. It's the best bakery evah!) Yes it's very slow service, but greatness takes time, right? If your in Trinidad or Humboldt county in general your really not expecting quick service for anything in the emerald triangle are you? It's a small town relaxed beach/fishing/tourist community.
