We had a wonderful dinner at beak tonight. The mac and cheese with reindeer sausage was a hit, as were the halibut burger and the salmon. For an appetizer we ordered the crispy salmon skin - great taste, great crunch, and very unique! Service was great - this place has a very friendly vibe, and we felt like old friends even though it was our first visit - and we love the no-tip policy. Wish more restaurants would do this. read more

Tried this quaint place for dinner and then returned for Sunday brunch. The atmosphere was so nice and service was top notch. For dinner 3 of us ordered the Mac & cheese and determined the salmon one was our favorite. Our brunch experience was good and we thought your donut bar was so fun but you may want to consider having tongs for serving and maybe covers as we watched parents pick up there children and let them lean over the donuts to make their choices. One little girl even touched one and the parents did not notice. We loved getting to experience your amazing food and hope to be able to come back one day. Great job Beak!! The food here is fantastic. I've had the rockfish tacos and salmon mac & cheese, both definitely did not disappoint. The house made hot sauces are delicious, and recommend buying a bottle to bring home. Wait staff are super friendly, sweet, and make solid recommendations. The chef here brings a unique yet distinctly Alaskan menu that offers something for everyone. BT-Dubs, they've got great coffee and espresso. Had a great dinner last night, sat at the bar and enjoyed personal service from a really lovely duo. Loved the massaged kale salad with berries, and then the black cod tips over a sumptuous barley mix, perfect combination and light yet filling. I was excited to try this restaurant while visiting but they had different menu for lunch. Atmosphere was nice and relaxing, the staff were very friendly. Tried rockfish tacos, Rockfish was cooked really nicely but the sauce was so bland, I couldn't taste anything and I had to put their kitchen made yellow spicy sauce (which had very nice kick to it! It was good) like a mad woman to give it some taste. They didn't serve any alcohol because their liquor license was in the process of being transferred over, they said they'll have it shortly. I wanted to give another shot and try their dinner menu so bad that I called and asked if we can bring our own bottle but they said it's not allowed, so unfortunately we left Sitka with not very impressive experience from this restaurant. It may get better once they start serving alcohol and have matching food with it. read more

Liked this place so much we ate here both nights we were in Sitka. Staff was very friendly and welcoming (there is no tipping, so I was disappointed I could not tip our server for his fine performance). Sat both on the porch, and then at the bar (was packed and lively on a Friday night, but the bar seats were open upon arrival). First night we had black cod morsels with rice and vegetables, and grilled salmon. Side salad was terrific. Salmon simply prepared with sea salt and dill, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Second night had the salmon chowder (perfect on a cold, damp day), which the kitchen was kind enough to split a bowl into two cups so we could have individual portions. Plenty of salmon inside. Got the salmon again since the waiter told us it had just been brought in. Good local beers (BIBCO) and nice wines. read more

I went in hoping to get dinner. Upon entering I was greeted by one of the chefs who was disinterested. I sat at the bar where the server was disengaged ( and probably overwhelmed as he was the only one at the front of the house). The menu was limited and overpriced the atmosphere was congested and musty. The two kitchen staff came out and kept looking around and both had sullied expressions. I had one glass of overpriced strawberry ruhbarb white wine and couldn't get out fast enough. Went for lunch as family. Servers nice. Service slow. Forgot appetizer. Food came in pieces. Fish burgers dry Hardly any aioli. No flavor on rock fish burger. We all got arugula salad on side. We wanted chips. We heard the server say they had too much salad in buckets to get rid of ---not appetizing or good selling point. Salad was just ok. Not great. The chowder and scone good. The only thing as locals we would return for are the donuts. Disappointed as foodies. Sitka needs to hold businesses to a higher standard and not compromise. Plates need more dressing up. Wow! This amazing restaurant is a must if you are in Sitka! First, it is decorated with a mix of comfortable eclectic antiques that make you feel so at home. The lady chef owner is brilliant putting together a menu that would please the foodies of any major metropolitan city but does not overpower the delicious local fresh seafood and vegetables. Great combinations of flavors and spices, we were so happy with everything. We started with two glasses of the excellent house wine along with the arugula side salad and the salmon chowder, accompanied by a warm yummy homemade scone! For our mains we chose the Sockeye Salmon and the Everything Cod named after my favorite crusty seeded bagel because of its seeded topping and both were cooked to perfection. And although pretty stuffed, we shared a sundae with homemade vanilla bean ice cream topped with chocolate grenache, salted caramel and berries. Ok, don't take our word for it. Go there yourself and I bet you'll agree. It's a gem that you will want to make a regular lunch or dinner spot. Plus, they have live music some evenings. Go there soon! read more

Had lunch today on the porch at Beak. Creamy salmon chowder was neither creamy or a chowder, nor did it have any salmon in it. I would say it was potato soup. It was tasty, but far from the description on the menu. My lunch companion ordered the same thing and there was no salmon in that bowl either. Peach ice tea was so sweet and thick it was undrinkable. Disappointing to say the least. Definitely an off day for the creamy salmon chowder and peach tea. read more

We were lucky to find Beak! We started with salmon crisps, followed by a delicious salmon chowder. We tried both the kale salad with berries and the arugula salad with chickpeas and pickled vegetables. Then it was on to black cod steaks, halibut burger, and cedar plank salmon. All delicious! My last review for this place was deleted because they said I was reviewing the wrong restaurant. I came to Sitka on a cruise and yup, this is where we ate. Was looking for fish and chips but they didn't have it on the menu. Got the salmon chowder and it was just okay without much salmon. The scone was the best part. I don't know how many restaurants in Sitka have salmon chowder with a scone so I doubt I got the restaurant wrong. Can't remember much of what the rest of our group ordered so it definitely wasn't memorable. Maybe we ordered the wrong thing but we ended up grabbing more food on the way back to the ship. read more

Our last day in Sitka, discovered this gem. Had great lunch of chowder & hummus. Then came back for dinner of salmon mac n cheese & crusted cod!! All delicious!! Esp liked decor & the name -'Be ak' - so much that we each bought a T-shirt! Added bonus - they don't accept gratuities, so if you leave one anyway, it's put in a pot and given to a charitable organization at the end of each month!! Love that!! read more
