We called ahead to inquire if they were dog friendly and they said they were. Upon arrival we didn't see any outdoor seating however. Imagine our surprise when we were seated in a fully enclosed air conditioned patio. Major props for allowing dogs. The service was average but the server couldn't answer basic menu questions like is the slaw vinegar or mayo based and whether their sauces and dressings were made in house. The food was ok. The cole slaw is very sweet. No one at the table cared for the skin on mayo based potato salad. The fries were crinkle- my favorite- but a missed opportunity as they weren't seasoned at all. Some Old Bay on them would have been amazing. Beamies cocktail sauce tasted homemade with a delightful punchy kick of horseradish and the blue cheese dressing was quite good as well. We had fried pickles and they too were average. I've had better and worse. My plate ($25) was a bit small I felt. It was a combo shrimp & oyster plate. The shrimp were WAY overcooked as in tough and chewy. The oysters were so small they tasted like globs of breading and nothing else. I tasted a scallop off someone else's plate and they were far from fresh. Definitely tasted off. Had it been my plate I would have sent it back. The breading was done while the scallops were wet as it completely came off the scallop in one piece. None of the fried food was seasoned. The side salad was a fresh mixed lettuce and that was a pleasant surprise as I'm not a fan of iceberg nor romaine. It was dressed w 2 grape tomatoes, a sprinkle of cheese and some haphazardly cut cucumbers. One issue that simply reflects poor management and indifferent ownership is the side area directly next to the patio where the employees gather to smoke. There were several blackened disgusting mops present and that was a HUGE turn off. Absolutely gross and I hope like hell they don't use those but I'm betting they do. This restaurant would benefit from a visit from Robert Irvine. Lots of potential if anyone actually cared to make some simple improvements. read more

Good spot and great service! Love the selection of beers on tap. Very attentive staff and I hate to rag on anyone trying to crawl out of the pandemic but the food tastes frozen. Maybe an off night for the kitchen but definitely over cooked shrimp. Overall, loved the gumbo and vibe of the whole place with all of the friendly faces. I eat at Beamie's any time I can make it to Augusta. Great location and relaxed atmosphere. The food is great no matter what you get. I highly recommend their chicken strips and catfish. I've never heard anyone (with taste) fuss about the food or service. While I don't drink, the bartenders at Beamie's are always a fun group to hang with. I just got to give a five star when one is warranted. I stayed at the hotel down the street and the front desk staff told me about this restaurant. It is casual, has a noisy bar, and frankly the wait staff is not quick. But with all that said, the food was fantastic. I had a shrimp poor boy with a side of craw fish one night...it was so good that I went back another night. I mixed it up a bit and had oysters on the half shell...and a side of craw fish. I have had better oysters but they were still good, and the craw fish....absolutely fantastic. All in all, the food was perfect, and the prices were acceptable. We were in town to visit some family. Because of Covid, we planned on ordering some food to go, and then eat on the river. However when we arrived, we decided to stay and eat in. Staff were wearing their masks and seating was reduced to 50%. We felt safe. Ordered two dozen raw oysters for the table. I forgot where they came from but they were cold and fresh and briny. Yum! We each got combo baskets. The fried catfish was perfect! Light and crispy, not greasy and soggy. It was the highlight for me. There was a mess up with our sides, but they resolved it quickly. The yellow rice is really good, and my family liked the potato salad and coleslaw. Also, they had a pretty good selection of beer, including some local brews from Georgia and even Augusta. Don't go to beamies on the River The Owner of beamies on the river screamed at me in the parking lot. This was one of my top 5 favorite places to go.. I had planned to go out to eat than walk the river playing Pokémon go but jeeez... As soon as I pulled into the parking lot He parked behind my car in the lot. I got creeped out and stayed in my car for a bit than realized he wasn't going to move so I got out and I walked from my car towards the sidewalk and he screamed me saying he was going to tow my car. I was walking to buy some cake before heading the the restaurant. Because I didn't know who he was or what was happening so I didn't want to be followed to the restaurant. Went in Thursday. It's seat yourself. We sat for 15-20 minutes in the exact middle of the restaurant before anyone acknowledged us. When someone spoke to us they simply said your waiter will be here soon. We decided to just order our food for takeout because we watched the waitresses stop and talk and laugh with some gentlemen in the corner multiple times. Better to get it to go than try to eat in and wait like that the entire time. We ordered 2 baskets and the chicken/shrimp gumbo. The gumbo and the chicken tenders were decent but the fried catfish, shrimp, and fries were bland, as if there wasn't any seasoning. The lack of flavor and customer service may keep me from coming back. I did like the gumbo so are I'm giving it 2 stars. read more

Stopped here on our way home to Texas from South Carolina. We ordered the Rockefeller oysters (5+++), chicken & shrimp gumbo(5+) black-eyed pea jambalaya (4.5) to start. OMG I'm NOT kidding when I say the Rockefeller oysters ARE AMAZING. I've had lots of these from various states including New Orleans, and Beamie's are by far THE BEST! My husband and I shared the fried catfish (3 star, I like extra crispy)basket with potato salad (5++) very unique flavor. Stopped in for seafood lunch on a Friday. I'd never tried the restaurant before so I was pretty excited, plus I've heard good things from friends. Parking and seating was a breeze considering it was still mid-workday. Service was great, not over the top but attentive. For an appetizer we had the nachos with shrimp and it was delicious! Down to the last bite. I ordered the grilled shrimp poboy and with a side of fries. The seasoning and portion size was great. We ordered the key lime pie for dessert but were disappointed due to the size compared to the price. The slice of the pie was mostly graham cracker crust instead of pie filling. I felt we may have been better off with a full pie from Publix. All in all lunch was great and I will definitely come back, I'll save dessert for some place else though. read more

When I arrived, the host pointed out that they had two specials tonight, and because they had specials there was an automatic 20% gratuity added to every check. 20% is my standard, but what do specials have to do with it. Any way I had the grilled shrimp and catfish platter with grilled oysters. The food was ok, though I did have to rush back to the hotel, apparently my stomach wasn't quite thrilled. A casual seafood place in downtown Augusta, Georgia. We ate here on Sunday for lunch for the first time. They had a special of raw oysters for $16 a dozen. They were so fresh, we ordered a second dozen after we finished the first order. They have lots of seafood options that you can order blackened, fried or grilled. Our group ordered fried catfish and fried oysters. I'm very picky about fried food as I don't like anything too heavy or greasy. The fried food here has a very light batter that allows you to taste the great flavor of the seafood. The fried catfish was mild and so delicious! We also like the fried oysters, fried pickles and the seafood gumbo. The prices are very reasonable too. Our waitress, Jen, was very friendly and took good care of us. This was my first time coming here because my mother has always spoke highly of them. My shrimp po' boy was absolutely delicious, the shrimp fresh and the lettuce crisp and a great addition to the sandwich. The potato salad was hands down the BEST I've ever hand. My fiancé had a less exciting experience with his dish than I personally had. He ordered the catfish basket, fried. When he received it, it was soggy for lack of better words. The fish was delicious but the texture of the fried fish left him wondering if he should've requested it be cooked differently. I ended up finishing his fish because don't get me wrong, it's amazing. But texture can also be extremely important and have an impact as it did in this case! If you want a delicious shrimp po'boy in town this is the place to go.
