This is my go-to coffee place. Slightly biased because I can walk there but their coffee is great. I mostly drink black coffee or cold brew and both are great. The atmosphere is very relaxed and is a nice place to sit and relax, study and even hang out with friends. Everyone there is always friendly. Their food is also a plus, my personal favorite is their salami and cream cheese bagel. read more

I can't even articulate! The coffee, the staff, the lighting, the environment, the patrons.... If I were to fantasize about the perfect coffee stop this would be it. Also, The staff is so accommodating! Their coffee is all sublime, but once I decided to get a turkey sandwich sans bread (because I can't have bread) and they offered to put it on a bed of greens and it was one of the most satisfying lunches I've ever had! They always save the day on a weekend morning. Their bagel sandwiches are unique and super delicious. They have decent coffee and lots of different espresso drinks. Sometimes the wait can be long. Cool place with the owners behind the counter. I like their coffee, not as bitter as Heine Brothers, more like Quill's. Free wifi, food options and lots of space. The front room is very bright with lots of windows, tables and a counter to sit at. Ample outlets and good wifi. The back room is large and quieter than the front room and has a sitting area with a sofa and chairs as well as tables, again ample power outlets. There is also an interesting coffee roaster and glass overhead door that add to the ambience. read more

Ok, I've given this place 3 chances and I have been disappointed all 3 times. If you are a coffee snob, DO NOT GO HERE. I have come to the conclusion that the owners do not understand coffee. They do not know the difference in roasts, they do not understand the regions the beans come from, they do not know how beans to water ratio works and they roast the beans until they are burnt. I have had a latte and 2 drip brews from this place that taste worse than Starbucks. Today's drip brew was supposedly Guatemalan. It was watery and it left this weird after taste. The beans were definitely over-roasted. I had to dump it out. Just awful. To the owners: please take a lesson from Quills or Sunergos on how to roast the beans (hint: a light roast should taste like the beans were roasted over a campfire), take the time to learn how to actually make drip brew, lattes, etc. I can only assume the people that like your coffee like Starbuck's too. On a side note, the food and baked goods were meh. I did manage to locate a La Colombe Triple Draft Latte in my fridge to wash out the nasty taste of the Bean coffee. So yay. read more

I came here to study with a friend after our regular coffee shop fell out of favor, and I will be coming back to Bean for the rest of my undergrad. The coffee was good, but I had a spiritual experience when I bit into my garlic, brie, and jam bagel! The space is open and bright with tons of seating. You'll have to park on the side streets, but it's no problem. read more

Finally, Germantown got a coffee house! This place has a bright sunny feel and the location is on point. There are tables outside, in front, and in the back room. The staff is really friendly. I enjoy the baked goods, but it doesn't have the greatest of chai tea lattes. My only real complaint is the hours. They open late and close early. read more

I am sure this place has great coffee but unfortunately I didn't have a chance to order any. My wife and I traveled to Louisville for a weekend getaway and decided we wanted to sit in a coffee shop. As we were walking up the sidewalk from where we parked there was a dog loosely tied to a pole outside the front window of the shop. There was no owner in sight and no way to get inside without passing the dog. I went first as my wife is pregnant and I didn't want her to have to navigate a strange dog and I'm sure glad I did. As we were passing I walked as far away from the dog as possible and made no attempt to pet it or engage with it in any way. The dog viciously jumped on me and then bit me in the back of my thigh. As I retreated into the street to get away from the dog the owner of the dog comes out of the coffee shop to see what is happening. I informed her that her dog had just bit me. She was apologetic and sincerely remorseful which I appreciated. However, I went inside to check the bite and sure enough I was bleeding and needed to leave the Bean to get some first aid materials. I'm not trying to be unfair about this review - I'm sure it has wonderful coffee. But please know that if you're not an avid animal lover the culture of Bean has dogs everywhere. Immediately after being bit my wife and I were approached by two more dogs off their leash inside. read more

I like the place and the people. I have one complaint. they never have decaffeinated coffee ready. When I want to pop in and out 10 minutes is a while to wait. I understand that the demand for decaf is lower than the high octane but is having one pot ready too much to ask? complaints over. The almond crossaint is delicious and near perfect in taste and proportion. The atmosphere seems sunny even on rainy days which is a little freaky in a good way. read more

With Germantown filling up with great coffee shops, bakeries and restaurants, you have to stand out as a business to make it. I love the interior decor and the friendliness of the staff, but it is probably not going to be my go to coffee shop. If you are a coffee snob do not go to this place. They serve the worst latte and macchiatos you've ever tasted. After brewing my coffee I watched the girl take a whisk and stir the espresso before adding the foam. I thought this was very strange as I have never seen somebody whisk a latte before. When I took a drink I discovered why she had whisked the drink. She was stirring up all the grounds that were in the cup. I immediately poured the cup out to find out it was full of grounds. If your machine brews espresso with that much grounds in it, then something is wrong. Also, the latte and macchiato I got both tasted very watered down. There was no strong espresso taste like I look forward to in any espresso drink. read more

This will be a limited review, likely a series of updates as I have the opportunity to sample their caffeinated offerings a little more. Today I was graced with the opportunity to get off work a little early and mosey around town in no particular hurry. My fiance hadn't quite finished up her day yet and neither of us wanted to go back to the house to disturb the dog so it only made sense for me to offer to buy us some coffee (especially since the boil water advisory was in effect). Nonetheless, the shop is cute and not overly decorated. It's simple and eclectic, without blaring music - huge plus. It wasn't terribly busy and the service I received was prompt and courteous. What I was most excited for was the coffee! I was not disappointed! In addition to just a plain old cup of Joe, it looked like they had a variety of offerings for all caffeine lovers. I'm thinking I might make them a morning stop on my way into the hospital on some days. I saw that they had a bottomless coffee option which sparks my interest and certainly makes me excited to go sit there one day and drink an abundance of caffeine. My rating/review will likely improve once I've had a chance to sample some other things here. Update: got the bottomless coffee for "dine in" and the morning bun and it was CLUTCH!
