Found this place thanks to Yelp! We were out riding early one morning and wanted breakfast. I'm glad we found this place. There's seating inside and out, it's cozy, and the staff is really friendly. Out waitress, Sarah, was very nice and never stopped smiling. We both got breakfast skillets and they were really good. And the price was about $8 or so for each. We would definitely visit this place again...and probably try the pancakes, they looked delicious! read more

My girlfriend and I were looking for somewhere to have breakfast this morning and she mentioned that a new cafe had been opened in downtown Waterloo. I was game but she said she had driven past it before and didn't stop in because it looked like it only served coffee, muffins and bagels. This was so not the case! We were pleasantly surprised at what this little oasis in the middle of a cow town had to offer. As we entered I noticed it was well lit and obviously a clean eatery. The decor and colors were comparable to a chain coffee house such as STL Bread Co or Starbucks. It was very small and very crowded, so I suggest getting there early, expect a short wait, or be prepared to take it to go. In all fairness it could have just been the time of day we went and the fact it was a Saturday. I will definitely be revisiting the Bean Tree Cafe and will report if the crowd is a fading trend or if this is just the place to be on Saturday morning in Waterloo IL. There are two areas to sit. One in a traditional cafe setting and the other with a traditional sit down restaurant. The theme remains the same no matter which side you sit. We were lucky and found the only open table was a two seat table with a window view. The menu was simple and completely encompassed on a two sided laminated page. It contained all of your expected classics but also included a few unexpected twists like the Portabella Omelet and Fruit and Maple French Toast. YUM! My Girlfriend who will so predictably order biscuits and gravy opted for the Portabella Mushroom Omelet, while I stuck with a more common selection of eggs over easy and hash browns. Real hash browns! I hate the silly excuse of hash browns most places give you called American Fries. The French had them right the first time and there is no reason to reinvent the wheel. The food was cooked to perfection and being a coffee freak, I have to comment that I will only be buying my morning Joe from Bean Tree Cafe. I am pleasantly pleased with my experience at the Bean Tree Cafe. Two complete meals and drinks for under 20 bucks. You just can't beat that. I think we will have a long history together. New favorite breakfast spot! Food was delicious and very reasonably priced. I had the blueberry-lemon curd pancakes so good! My friend had the traditional French toast and was very happy with it. I tried her iced coffee with cream and sugar free vanilla- a little sweet for me but still good. My chai latte was excellent. I recommend getting here early. When came in at 830 there was plenty of open seating, 30m later people were standing outside waiting for tables to open up. Will definitely be back again soon! We heard about this place from a friend and decided to check it out. They serve breakfast all day so that's a big plus. The service was outstanding, the place was packed and our waiter was on the ball the whole time. I got a regular latte and my girlfriend got a marshmallow toast mocha latte, both we're outstanding. The Hawaiian French toast was awesome, light and fluffy and the coconut surprise was not overly sweet, which I liked a lot. My girlfriend got an omelette and the portion size was huge, which was great so we shared our meals. Everything was great, I'll be back and will recommend this place to others. read more

Wonderful little local cafe that my parents took me to before we went to the Christmas tree farm nearby. Between 5 of us, we all had something different. I got the BLT, which was delicious and perfectly sized. My niece got the regular French toast, which she shared with me and was also very good. This place has really good food! My husband had The Skillet which he thought was delish. I had the Monte Cristo which was good and then some of the, if not THE, best French fries I've ever had. I love this place! I grew up nearby but have since moved away and every time I am back home visiting I make a stop at Bean Tree Cafe, even if it's just for a coffee to go! I've been going here for many years now - back when it was the Courthouse Cafe - and I feel like it went through a few struggles with service when they first switched to the Bean Tree, but the past few times I've been there, it's been great! The strawberry stuffed french toast is my usual go-to, but I also absolutely love the lemon blueberry pancakes. If I could get both every time I'm there without eating myself sick, I would! In fact, my mouth is watering right now just thinking about them! The coffee is great, atmosphere is great and the prices are reasonable. The only downside is it's a smaller building so seating can be limited, but just get there early to get a table or expect to wait a little bit. read more

Poor service, slow to seat, slow to eat. Neither gravy nor fried potatoes from scratch, but they should be. Wife's hash browns were greasy too. Things happen, and it was a busy Saturday morning. But here was the deal breaker: the pancake was undercooked throughout, and raw in the middle half. And I really like pancakes. As there is not take service, I took my pancake up to the counter, and pointed at my uneaten pancake to the counter help. Me: "Please tell the kitchen the pancakes look beautiful on the outside, but it is doughy and undercooked." Counter help response: "Our pancakes are made that way, they are a bit doughy " Me: "Really? Look there in the center, see the uncooked dough and no bubbles at all? That's uncooked." Counter help: "Sir I can get you a coupon if you're not happy." I refused the coupon, because it's not about the cost of one pancake. And here's the thing -- all I wanted to be happy is exactly what I asked for: remind the cook that a pancake might look beautiful brown, but be well undercooked. And yet, there was never an assurance the cooks would be informed. Instead I was told this case's pancakes are supposed to be doughy. I can assure you, NO they are not. It's a pancake. Not flan, not torte, not pudding. A pancake should not be liquid in the middle. Ever. Go ahead and argue that it should be doughy, but that won't help me want to come back. read more

Ordered the pick two: turkey bacon sandwich, Cesar salad and fries. Sandwich was lacking turkey & had melted butter spread on the bread (suppose to be toasted). Server was really sweet but was doing two peoples jobs, doubling as a busboy, so it took a bit to get the check. Caramel mocha was very good. The Bean Tree Café is a good place to grab breakfast, brunch, or lunch. The food is good, but could be better. That being said I don't think this place is trying to be a five star restaurant, they just want to put out good food, and I think they are doing that. Ordered $40 worth of food and was less than impressed. My wife ordered the southwestern omelette and enjoyed it. My children ordered the blueberry and lemon pancakes and the blueberry muffin - which they both thought were adequate. I ordered the country fried steak with eggs and potatoes. This is where it all went downhill. I don't know how it is possible to overcook one egg and undercook the other, when they are both attached, but this place can do it. The country fried "steak" will make you make you a vegetarian if you aren't already one already. It was something that I immediately threw away after two bites. The hash browns were so severely undercooked that I thought I might have made them. It joined the "steak" in the trash can immediately after trying them. I didn't want subject my family to that experiment. This is a place is something that I will probably not revisit, but maybe it was just a misstep. read more

Today was my first time at bean tree. We checked out their website and the food looked and sounded phenomenal. We had the spinach and feta omelette, potato pancakes and the works (the usual little bit of everything). Everything was amazing. Only thing I could critique would have been the gravy, on the biscuits and gravy, it was a pretty bland. It did have excellent consistency though. When I return I will definitely try the Hawaiian, stuffed French toast with what appears to be all kinds of goodness. We will certainly return!!! read more

We can't get enough of this place! Everything is great, from the service, the atmosphere, the latte is amazing and all the food!
