The croissants at Beans and Bagels are fabulous: in flavor and flakiness. I go out of my way to come to this place, which isn't often. But when I do, I have really bad service. Each time, I am shorted my change due back to me. Now, if and when I do go there, I just give them exact change. I have always tipped them, and still do, but that does not even guarantee a smile or thank you. Not that it SHOULD, but if you hate your job then don't come to work. It's a shame that their tasty sandwiches and croissants are served by saps. By the way, I have never written a bad review until this one. read more

The croissants are worth the trip. Better than anyone else's in the city. The iced coffee can be a bit too strong.

the bagels were good but had the lox spread and it barely had any lox in it. they also don't allow dogs on their outdoor patio so i'm not a huge fan :). i've heard the croissants and pastries are really good so i'd be willing to try again. also, the metropolitan coffee is nice and smooth (of course). read more

Ah Beans and Bagels. I frequently make stops here on my way to work in the morning. Usually pick up a hot or iced tea and something to munch. The muffins are good and the croissants are great! Also, their granola bars don't get much attention but those are good as well. And the chai tea is probably my favorite. Sometimes on weekends I stop in for a breakfast sandwich, which is especially good after a night of drinking! Great local place and I like that the staff here seems to know the regulars. read more

This is truly a tucked away neighborhood spot, and not so much a destination. My yoga studio is right across the street so I decided to wander in. It's a very cute, comfy, homey place. Small, but very comfortable. The staff was super nice. Chai happens to be the love of my life, so I ordered a soy chai. One sip and I was blown away. I don't know if they use a mix or if it's made in-store, but it's really a standout. There was one spice that was very dominant, and I believe it was cardamom. Yes, that's it. The chai was cardamommy! My pet peeve is a too sweet chai. This was so very lightly sweetened and it let that great spice flavor come through. Love this chai! I'm glad I stopped in today. read more

I definitely thought this was a super cute place to grab bagel and coffee while in the area. I didn't have anything bad to say about the service or the food that we tried (a pastry an d a bagel). My fiance actually got a pastry and didn't finish it and I totally finished it off because it was so great. I didn't really like the coffee too much-there was a lot of charges for really typical stuff like syrup and then the drink didn't taste like it had all of the stuff I ordered.Otherwise, I thought it was very quiet and simple and I'm always glad to support local businesses. read more

I only go for the bagels - bagel sandwiches, cream cheese, you name it. The food is great! ...when it's available. At least half the time I go they are out of bagels - completely. I don't go there regularly because they are so unreliable with their stock. It is common to see disgruntled would-be customers at the front door saying, "they're already out of bagels." I know they've had trouble over-stocking bagels in the past, but at this point I wonder if they should just change their name to "Beans &" . Moral of the story - don't rely on this place for bagels; you're likely to be disappointed. read more

i live a block away from B&B and everytime I need my coffee, I always go here. They make really good soy mocha and their sandwiches are so good. My coworkers and I always go here when we need some coffee and some delicious pastries. The service is very good. Rick and Joe are the people who we always talk to. But there's this lady who work there too, but i dont know her name =( she is also awesome, she always saves me my favorite chocolate croissant. hehehe. THeyre all awesome. read more

Oh all of these crabass reviewers apparently didn't have their coffee before writing their reviews ;) I love this small, neighborhood coffee shop. Ridiculously delicious croissants, fantastic drip coffee and the staff are great. If you have 10-15 minutes to spare- get a breakfast bagel- they're worth the small wait. I really love the unpretentious vibe and thoroughly enjoy buying my coffee here every morning. It does get quite busy in the am but that's because they ingeniously placed their business RIGHT next to the train. Why doesn't every coffee shop do that?! read more

I dropped my doggie off to get groomed a couple doors down and decided to stop for coffee since the grooming was only an hour long. Walked into the store and was greeted warmly, ordered an in house coffee and a few pastries. Their pastries are made in house and looked and smelled like bakery quality, not some run of the mill stuff here. I got the eclair, the strawberry Charlotte and an apple tart. Each was very well done and the perfect sweetness, not cloying like many pastries can be. read more

B&B is a central part of the RG neighborhood experience, and is a great model for what "the neighborhood coffee shop" should look like. Coffee is good, food items are good, and pricing reflects what should be considered fair market value ($4 spent here buys you more "value" than $4 spent at Starbucks). In general they do have a "we are going to do things the way that we are going to do them" attitude, which I applaud, because the location and breadth of their offering is certainly in demand, so it's fair that they take advantage of that without making the customer feel as if they are being price gouged. I don't go here too often, even though I live down the block, but I always have a good experience. Bonus: They stock ChemEx filters, and the price is less than what Amazon charges. P.S. As with most of the other reviewers, I, too, frequent this establishment due to the close proximity of my urban dwelling. And I have to agree with the overall assessment that 1. the quality of the food/coffee is good, while 2. the service needs to turn down the 'tude and increase the pleasant vibes. With regard to the coffee, I am a latte drinker, which according to Fox News means that I am a socialist, N.Y. Times reading, God hating liberal. However, they might be happy to note that the price of said coffee beverage is quite a bit lower than most coffee shops. Also, the quality of the espresso is quite good, so I highly recommend it. With regard for the food, I have had both the breakfast bagels as well as the sandwiches, and both were excellent. My recommendation is the Cubano. Lastly, the hipster/moody workers...not a big fan. However, it kind of comes with the territory, and they have never told me to go f#$k myself right to my face, so I'm not absolutely miserable when I go there. Probably the most annoying part is having to listen to AC/DC cranked up to 11 on a Saturday afternoon. I mean, I know I'm a Sox fan so I have built up a tolerance to hearing "Thunderstruck" destroying my eardrums at an alarming pace, but not when I'm hungover. Word. read more

I've been going to Beans & Bagels since I moved to the area about 6 years ago. When I was unemployed I would go during less busy hours, but now that I'm working again, I'm typically there during their busiest times. The bagels and pastries are good and the espresso drinks are excellent. I see all the reviews about "bad service" and I'm not sure what the problem is. Are they rude? I haven't had that experience. Are they slow? Yes, they are. Especially during 'rush' hours. But if you want a fast espresso drink, go to some corporate joint where they press a button for you. The drinks here are works of art and they taste like it, too. The bagel breakfast sandwiches are delish. The only negative comment I have is that they no longer will make a breakfast sandwich with an over-easy egg. If I don't mind that yolk might spatter me and my clothes, I don't know why they do. Maybe it's a liability issue -- I don't know. But the sandwich is just as good with a regular fried or scrambled egg. (BTW, they use Phil's eggs, which are about the most sustainable and conscientiously produced eggs you can buy.) read more

I am in the neighborhood and get over to B&B about 4x/week. The staff is very friendly and efficient and professional while being relaxed and down to earth. The food is very good. They have a french baker that makes outstanding croissant and other goodies. The bagels and bagel sandwiches are quite tasty. They always make my latte with care and give a discount if you bring your own cup. Its run by Adam who cares about quality and the environment so he balances important priorities. Great place ...as evidenced by the long lines at peak times. The lines move quickly. Enjoy!! read more

I love this place :) I do take issue that they close suuuuper early, but I think that gives it a quality of knowing they sell until they run out of bagels, cream cheese, pastries, etc. I enjoy coming here earlier, or around noon to closing, as there are always seats available, and access to wifi allows me to sit and do homework, read, draw, write or just relax if I don't feel like being at home. I usually just get a latte and a bagel (my favourite that usually runs out early is just a multigrain bagel with artichoke cream cheese, with added spinach...super garlicy, yumm, but as for light on the cream cheese if you're watching what you eat cause they really pack it on!). There was a time however that I arrived around 1 and they had told me the kitchen was already closed, so all I could get was a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and no added veggies. Kind of strange, but I went with it 'cause I was familiar with how they function. Overall, I've invited friends to check this place out because I do love the decor, the atmosphere, the huge windows, neighbourhood (feels more like Ravenswood than Lincoln Square), and the coffee. read more

The first time I walked in here looking to order a bagel & coffee around noon, the owner said, "you're not from around here are you?" For a place called "Beans & Bagels" it seems pretty silly that they're apparently out of bagels everyday at noon. And I could really do without being seemingly shamed for not knowing this information the first time I came in. The only other time I've been in after that, it took 13 minutes to get an Americano when there were, according to the same owner, 4 other orders in front of mine. I'll be going to First Slice Pie Cafe and/or making coffee at home from now on. read more

I have to stop myself on the way to the train from getting a ham and cheese croissant too often. It's convenient and delicious. Bagel Nirvana! So their coffee is different.....but it packs a punch of caffeine that Starbucks seems to lack.
