nice noisy pub. Front window seating is nice. It's a bit narrow and tight along the side which is a plus or a minus depending on how close you like your neighbors. Back Pool Hall / games alley is packed at night. Over the several nights we were there, I saw a mixed group of various nationalities playing back there- I didn't see any overt racist comments or whatever ( I read an earlier review concerning some racist elements being in there ). Tucked in the back corner is another larger room for a less frenetic drinking experience. it may seem weird to some people to have to go through the pool hall to get to the ' dining room " but we didn't mind. we had a few pasta dishes, breakfast dishes, steak tips, calamari, spicey fries and a few lighter dises there. It's pub food so it was what it was. a couple of the floor waitresses had perpetual frowns and seemed easily frazzled. One evening, a waitress completely ignored one fellow who ordered only french fries and a beer. he had to go get her to get more beer. then she brought him the wrong one...lol... the music being played in the front room is loud and it is a strange mix : from 80's bland radio crap to Metallica. The bartender was friendly and knew her stuff. Several tv screens showing soccer / football games. I'd call ahead to see if they can arrange better seating if you are coming with a large group. There aren't many tables set up to hold more than 6 people. Most are deuces or quads. there is maybe one booth that could hold more than 4 people. The men's bathroom is a complete disaster. too small, too filthy, too smelly, no obvious ventilation and if there is, it isn't working. No one was cleaning them up as they stayed that way for about 3 hours. So on the plus side: food is average, liquor prices are fair, eclectic music mix, pool and games room. food service is open late. location is a huge asset for the beantown. negative- somewhat sour looking waitresses and dirty crappy to filthy bathrooms. the music is from both the jukebox as well as someone's ipod or whatever. We kept going back as it was so close and it wasn't horrible. you get what you pay for and they didn't go over and above what was expected. It's not great but I might hit it again. Like an old comfortable pair of shoes- you want to go get something new and/ or better but at least you know what to expect when you put them on. it thrives on the quality of meeting a low expectation. and at that, it is a success. read more

Terrible. I've worked in this area for 21 years and I've seen many places come & go. I wish this place would go. I've been to this place probably 10 times over the past 3-4 years and its the same story every time. I no longer patronize this dump. 1. Absolutely awful service - ESPECIALLY from the waitresses. I've never been in a place with the service is this consistently bad. 2. Bartenders more interested in conversing with friends and staff than serving drinks. 3. Overpriced, crap food. Just about everything on the menu is frozen and thrown onto a grill or into a fry-o-lator. 4. A bad mix of meat head white collar/ white trash crowds. Too many Yah Bros! high fiving one another after evey hoop. 5. The place is designed horribly. There is zero flow and its more like a free for all to navigate the place. There are way too many stools and tables - so even if its a medium size crowd you're squeezing by everyone as if you are on a rush hour train. Its just a constant rush of people bumping into you or asking you to move so they can get by. Lame. 6. A poor attempt to be hip and modern nice try but not with that underwhelming beer and liquor selection. 7. You walk head first into a weird funk of a smell. Like industrial cleaner masking vomit or dirty feet. It's as if they are way too obvious in trying to hide a bad odor. 8. Bathrooms are always disgusting. The food, as always, was outstanding, which is why this spot had been my go-to whenever I was in town. Sadly, this time, the service was a complete letdown. Initially, our first waitress (blonde) was attentive and pleasant. However, when we moved tables for more comfort and got a new waitress (young, dark-haired), the experience took a sharp nosedive. We waited an unreasonable amount of time before even being acknowledged and had to ask another waitress for service. This seemed to irritate our new server, who finally brought us water and a beer after an unacceptable delay. While other tables around us were promptly served, we had to wait another 10 minutes just to place our order. The situation worsened when we asked the blonde waitress to check on our food. She assured us our waitress would be over soon, but instead, we watched the staff gather together, pointing and congregating, while we were left waiting. When our food finally arrived, it came all at once, delivered with an unmistakable attitude. This wasn't just a minor issue; it was a serious decline in the level of service I once appreciated. Despite the restaurant not being busy and the waitstaff seeming adequately staffed, we were treated as if our presence was an inconvenience. I won't be recommending or returning to this place, and it's disheartening to say that after multiple business trips here, the service has steadily declined. Ordered the lobster roll sandwhich. The lobster filling was fresh and with nice texture but had zero taste. No flavor at all. Very disappointing for the $25 price. I stole of my friend's tartar sauce and put that on top myself and it somewhat redeemed it a tiny but. My goodness, someone taste the food and realize it has no taste. Put some dill, salt, pepper, maybe tarter sauce, for gosh sakes SOMETHING. It has such potential. But completely tasteless. I work right by the Beantown Pub and stop by on an almost weekly basis. While it is not the fanciest place on earth, I have found it to be like a second home for me. The Beantown Pub is a great place to go for some cheap eats and drinks after work. They have a good assortment of beers on tap and a typical pub menu. There are plenty of large plasma screens to watch the Sox and a couple of pool tables in the back. This pub is a good alternative hang out if you don't want to hit up the crowded bars in Fan. If you go on an off night and don't make the bar tenders talk to you like your a tourist...its quite nice.
