I ordered a spotting scope from them which costed me $2600 and while they claimed that was in stock, but after 3 days delay by them to ship that item, after several attempts I was able to talk with someone there and they told me they can not deliver my order because they don't have it in stock while my debit card was charged with them. After trying to contact them through their email contact and phone number they accused me I was lying to them while I just asked them to refund me. Rude, Liar, Dishonest about their inventory. When I ordered it, the website said nothing about it being backordered. No big deal except for nobody let me know. I called and it was like I was bothering them. No biggie, I let it go. Everyone has a bad day right? Called a couple more times and still (a big sigh on the phone and frustration from them like I'm bothering them). Gentleman on the phone was defensive and rude, even though I just told him I was checking on my order. Very strange. Told it would be in by the end of the following week. Then, no call. No information. Called two weeks later to find out they were not getting them in and they had "white flagged" the order, a.k.a. canceled it. Bear Basin Outfitters crosses the line of incompetence to outright theft. At this point, I plan to call my credit card company and dispute a $1,750 charge because after 6 weeks of haggling with them, I still have no product and no refund. I have been lied to repeatedly and their staff is rude, has no idea what is going on, and refuses to look unless you press them to do so. I wish I could leave 0 stars. On 9/19/2012 I ordered a riflescope priced at $1,724 and also paid for overnight shipping. I was promised that the scope was in stock and that I would have it the next day. After 3 weeks of excuses and and no returned phone calls, I finally gave up and cancelled the order. They made repeated assurances that it will "be there tomorrow" or "it will be there on Tuesday." Then they started asking me to accept another, cheaper scope instead of the one I had ordered. I am convinced that they were lying the whole time. The scope was never in stock and they never had any intention of delivering it. They wanted to get my money and lock me in and then bait and switch me to another item they did have in stock. On 10/12/2012 I finally cancelled the order and asked for a refund. As I write this post on 10/26/2012 I still have not received the refund. Again, I've heard one excuse after another for why it hasn't been processed and again I have called them repeatedly. Each time I am told that I will receive a call back and each time I have had to call them because they just will not follow through. This is the worst buying experience of my life. These guys are pretty lame! Website shows "store hours" M-F 7:00am- 6:00pm. Their store address is also on their website. I drive there and find a note on the door, "Please Knock!" I knock and a guy and his dog come down the stairs to open the door. Behind him are several displays and cabinets full of optics! I let him know that I was there to see the Vortex Razor HD and compare to the Swarovski's. The ones showing on their website as, "In Stock" He doesn't let me in and says they are too busy on the phone on Mondays to be open to the public. I'm guessing, after reading the other reviews, they are busy processing refunds and tracking orders on Mondays? I will find my optics somewhere else and not be able to recommend Bear Basin Outfitters to anyone. read more

Excellent product lines and great customer service. I placed an order for a scope that Leupold had not yet released. John in customer service couldn't have been more helpful. He kept me informed while we waited for the scope to ship and he called me personally the day they arrived and shipped it the next day. During our wait I ordered a Spurh mount for the scope and it was at my front door 3 days later. I couldn't ask for better service, selection or pricing. Used to be a quality vendor. Not so much anymore. Ordered night vision binoculars on Monday for overnight delivery. Tuesday no show. Status shows "processing". Called Wednesday to inquire and had to wait for a call back. Ok, they're busy. When called back, that model is discontinued. Oh, and "one of the girls " was supposedly to call and leave a message to tell me this yesterday. So their website listed a product that's not available, and the order status was also misleading. Won't be using them again, and have bought at least $5,000 worth of optics from them in the past - Kowa Spotting scope, half a dozen Leupold and Zeiss scopes. Lost this customer! read more

Horrible place to do business with. Would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I do not understand why any scope manufacturers would even sell to them. They kept trying to throw them under the bus when it was all their own wrong doing. I bought my scope from bear basin 11-30-15. A huskamaw 5-30x they charged my credit card that day. Got my receipt. 2 months later I decided to call them regarding my order and why I haven't received my scope. Talked with John there and he seemed like a nice guy, he told me they were all back ordered right now and they would ship mine in two weeks. (You would have thought they would have contacted me and told me that they were back ordered before they charge my card). I knew these were a newer scope so i believed him waited another month. Nothing, so called him again. Got the same story, went on till 4-10-16. At this point John stated he was waiting on the shipment from the manufacturer but could give me a date, just said call back in a week. So I did, he kept saying the same thing, this went on for another month. So I called a competitor "long range hunting store" asked them if I order the scope today when would it ship? He said he'd call the manufacturer and find out. He called me back in an hr and said it would ship in a week. This time I told him I wanted to cancel my order and wanted a refund, I told him I wanted him to email me an acknowledgment stating I wanted a refund. I told him I was going to get the scope some place else. I told John that this other company doesn't have a waiting list and gave a an actual date. He said that if that is when theirs is shipping then mine would ship the same date. I said I just want a refund. He said he didn't care he would just give my scope to the next person in line and he didn't understand why I would want to pay 500.00 more for the same scope. (I bought it when they had it on sale) I said cause they will actually get me my scope! Then the fun refund process starts. John said he needs my credit card number again so they can process the order, he said he would write I down and pass it on to the accounting department right after he wrote it down. I asked to speak to someone in the Accting department instead so it doesn't get messed up. John said they "ahh hang on, oh they aren't in the office right now, call back in the morning." So I did, spoke to the lady there, gave her my credit card number and she repeated it back everything was right, then she stated it would take 7-10 business days for me to get my money back. I asked her why, are you going to process it now? She said yes, but the credit card company won't release the funds till then. I told her that out of all the refunds that I have done I have never waited that long before. She said sorry but it might take that long. Waited 10 business days, nothing so I called her back. She said she was sorry she must of wrote down the credit card number wrong she would have to reprocess the refund and she needed my number again. I asked her how come she didn't call me 9 days ago when she realized the number was wrong. She had no answer, so I asked her what number did she have written down and try to process. She said umm I'm not sure I don't know where the paper is that I wrote it down on. Whatever gave her the number again and told her I wanted an email stating she was going to process the refund today, she said okay. The next day I had my refund. Waited 6 months for nothing. Btw long range hunting store shipped the scope the day he said. I told him I have been waiting 6 months for this scope. He said they were never back ordered that long. read more

Avoid Avoid Avoid. I ordered a scope (in stock) on December 28th. Got an email confirmation within a day. Sent a Money Order the next few days and it got there by January 10th. I heard nothing from them. Nothing for weeks. I was very busy and basically forgot about it. Come April, yes mid April, I contact them via email and giving them the data from my email invoice. Guy writes back they need invoice number. I have NO invoice number. I call, get a fellow who acts like he hates his job and me both. He can't find my order. After 10 minutes of being treated extremely rude by him he says he found it, and the scope is not available and probably never would be. I said it would have been nice if someone and informed of such in the last 3 months. I asked for a refund since the scope was not going to be available, he said he had just forwarded that to bookkeeping and I'd have a refund in about 10 days. April was over and no check. So I called and called and called in early May, only a machine answered saying leave a message and phone number and we will call you back. No one ever called me back, plus I sent 3 emails, no response. Finally one day after leaving a message a guy called me back. He said "we have not forgot about you" even though they had ignored me for months. This about May 10th. So FOUR months since order, no scope, no refund. He said the check would go out Friday. Three more weeks go by an NO CHECK. I am leaving for 2 weeks camping, no phone service, so I tried calling, no luck. I write another email, told them this was insane, gave a brief history and asked them to send me my damn money. On June 19th I got back to town, went to Post Office and my check was there, postmarked June 10th. So 5 months after they received my check for an item listed in stock when ordered on internet, but which they did not have, they finally sent my money back. At least 10 calls and as many emails were made by me. Now we will see if the check is any good. Make note, they have an F rating by the better business bureau. read more

I placed an order for a Vortex rifle scope from Bear Basin on 23 December 2014. They definitely had the best price. Several days later, I received a call that the scope I ordered was not available but the exact same scope with a different reticle was available and could ship immediately. I declined, as I wanted a specific reticle and they said it would be available on 1 January 2015. I appreciate being offered an option, though. 8 January 2015 is when my feelings about Bear Basin took a nose dive. I still had not received my order and when I called, the customer service stated that the scope still wasn't available. He wasn't rude but was curt and there was no offer of apology for them failing to meet their promises. He did say that it would be available on 12 January 2015. On 13 January 2015, I still had not received any notice of shipment, I called and cancelled my order. The customer service agent was again curt but not rude. He stated that I called just in time because my order was about to go out that day. He never inquired as to why I was canceling my order and again no apology. Maybe I'm just old school but basic customer service goes a long way with me. Had they notified me and kept me informed about the status of my order, all would have been fine. Instead, I will never give them a dime of my money, even if it means that I will pay more somewhere else. Good luck Bear Basin!!! read more

How are these guys still in business? Here's my horror story: 1. I order a scope and rings on Sept 3. 2. Next day they call back and say that the scope I ordered, which was listed at a good price, is discontinued and they're out of stock, how about this other scope? (Classic bait and switch). 3. Not thinking clearly, I buy the other scope. 4. They inform me that the new Kahler scope I ordered is on order from Austria and it will be some time before it arrives. 5. Four weeks later, on or about the date of Oct 5, I call them and inquire. They inform me that the scope has just arrived and they can have it to my house by the following Monday. 6. Monday, Oct 12 rolls around, no scope is delivered. I call them that night. They say, "ohh, we're so sorry! We plum forgot to ship it! We can overnight it to you and it will be there on Wednesday". 7. The morning of Wednesday, Oct 14, I call them, not having received a tracking number or any other acknowledgement, and they say, "we were just about to call you - the order went out yesterday as ground shipping, it will be there next week". Well, as I had clearly communicated during every phone call, I was to be out of town the next week, and didn't want it delivered then. 8. I cancel the order that morning and they inform me that the credit will post to my account within 3-5 business days. 9. 5 business days later, no credit has posted. I wait a bit longer. I call them on Oct 26 or Oct 27, and they say they will "manually" post the credit and it will be there by Friday 30th. 10. Of course, nothing happens. I wait until Tuesday, Nov 3 to call my bank. They inform me that no credit has been submitted for the charge, and I file a fraud claim. Now I'm in process with the bank and the best case scenario is that I get my money back within a couple of months. Long story short: They charged me the day I ordered, not the day they shipped - and then they never shipped. Either they are the Keystone Kops of online sales or they're predators pretending to be the Keystone Kops of online sales. In either case, stay away from them. You really don't need this kind of aggravation in your life. read more

So I was in the market for a rifle scope. I had spent a few days searching the web and could not find the scope I wanted. Every place I found had zero, nadda, zip. The only thing I found were back orders. Well that all changed after finding this shop. I called Bear Basin and was greeted by a friendly sales person. This individual was very helpful and most importantly delivered as promised. I was told my order would be delivered in 3 days it took 2. Very professional company to deal with. These people are completely unresponsive to email inquiries about online orders and don't publish a telephone number. They have a very well designed website and I made the mistake of trusting the site. I ordered a rifle scope from them before checking their online reviews. which are terrible. They never responded to repeated emails re: tracking info and delivery date, so I had to contest the charge for the scope (which they billed out instantly) with my credit card company. First experience was not so great, was told half a dozen times they were waiting NF to send them parts to complete my order. Long story short I stuck thru it for almost two months after I initally placed the order. Well I recenlty was in the market for another rifle scope and decided to try them again. Well I placed the order over two weeks ago and am getting the same story. Was told next week, just waiting for them to send our shipment.
