I had heard a lot of good reviews about this place so I decided to check it out. First off, it was located right across the street from the pier, so definitely an amazing spot to grab a coffee with a view! I got the lavender caramel latte. It was very good! I would recommend getting it if you like anything remotely lavender. It had a little sweetness to it as well. Pretty good all around! The cups that they come in I think are the coolest. A bear with a surfboard, what more could you want when in Cali?! The only thing I was kind of bummed about was that they didn't have more merchandise. If they had the same bear and surfboard logo items we would have bought shirts or mugs. Missed opportunity for sure, although I do see they have an online store to get items like that, it would have been cooler to buy there. read more

Amazing, AH-MAZING COFFEE! It was my first visit here and I certainly hope it will not be my last. I was served very quickly. I ordered the almond croissant and lavender honey latte. OMG, the latte was sweetened to perfection and the croissant was rather rich. I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the quiet atmosphere of the shop and how it's just right on the beach. Everyone was just so friendly - even other customers. No one was rude, no one was glued to their phones....everyone was just really nice. The cafe is rather small, so it's not a place to hang out inside unless you go into the adjoining room or out on the patio. Comparing drink size, you'll pay $6.50 for a small dirty chai. Extremely overpriced for what it is. Taste is good but the chai is very subtle, personally I think it needs to be stronger, hints ordering a chai. If this was 3.5 as advertised it would earn another star. Coffee & the beach are two of my favorite things. Bear Coast is located directly across the street from the beach so you can easily grab your cup and enjoy the scenic views. It is street parking which can be a bit tough, but we ended up parking not too far away and walking down. I got the regular latte because I wanted to taste the beans and WOW my latte was phenomenal. So so good. They also have fun seasonal flavors for their lattes which I definitely would like to try next time. Definitely recommend and am already wanting another latte from here :) read more

The shop was nicely decorated and they have done a great job on branding. But, the merchandise displayed for sale was definitely over-priced...probably a function of the shop's location. It's nice to feel welcome at an establishment as that can compensate for other potential shortcomings. For me, the experience is a big part of the "consumption" process when spending my time and money at an establishment. Super cute coffee spot with a great location, but maybe the worst matcha drink I've ever had LOL. My girlfriend is staying in San Clemente and so we woke up early and walked the beach. She brought me to this coffee shop that she really likes and since I don't drink coffee, we both got the matcha (her first time getting it from here) and it basically tasted like milk LOL. But she says the place has really great coffee -- so just stick to the coffee haha! And the location is really great and has seating in the front. Visited on a weekend day (Sunday) the line was LONG. We waited in line for approximately 30 minutes. It was we worth the wait. I wanted to love this place for the cup design alone but sadly the drinks just aren't very good. The first con is the one size cup. When I get an iced coffee I want at least 24 oz. Ordered a dark chocolate iced mocha with single shot and a dark chocolate iced mocha with double shot and caramel added. Oddly the one with a single shot came out stronger than the one with a double shot. Both drinks had a very weak coffee flavor and tasted more like chocolate milk. Not worth it! read more

So, it's named Bear Coast Coffee! Clever! Just about halfway between LA and San Diego lies San Clemente. We're discovering how quaint this beach town is. I've been using my Yelp app to find little coffee shops like Bear Coast Coffee to stop by and break up the drive/stretch our legs/get a snack and coffee. I wanted latte art and got it! I really liked the smoothness, design, and flavor... and the bear decor! It was subtly all around us...like a "Where's Waldo" puzzle! I like the coffee, lattes and pastries and the ambience is great. I'm not happy about the fact that they don't offer lattes in 16 ounces. You pay six dollars for a tiny little 12 ounce. When I asked to upgrade to a 12 ounce they refused. It's not that difficult to change your ratios to make a 16 ounce latte. I suggest that all Bear Coast coffee locations offer a 16 ounce option for all drinks. Also the Dana Point location happily upgraded me but the Sanclemente location did not. read more
