Wagyu cheek - with butternut squash risotto. Amazing! Melt in your mouth wagyu, so good! Scallop- with mushroom, smoked trout roa and lobster consume, another spectacular dish, loved all the components and the flavor profile. Beets - delicious with the feta and grapefruit. The bread service is perfection, light and hot, not a heavy bread at all. You get a piece of sourdough and a little roll with pepitas and golden raisins, so good. Our mains were the Pepper steak, which was cooked perfectly, and loved the chutney next to the pepper flavor King salmon with Thai curry mousse was amazing, I loved the crispy skin. The fig walnut guanciale jam was overpoweringly sweet and the guanciale was also nonexistent. Overall, what I expected to be a flavorful combination, fell pretty flat and bland for me. Onto the main, I got to try the Block burger and the house made gnocchi. The burger was a standard burger, nothing too crazy. I was surprised the patty was actually moist because it was cooked well done. The same jam from the baked ricotta was used, so wasn't a big fan of it because again the overwhelmingly sweet didn't do much to elevate the burger. I also missed any flavor from the truffle cheese sauce. So it was a pretty average burger. My gnocchi definitely tasted better than it looked. Another friend also got the same dish and it looked like they just split our portions in half and served it on two separate plates. In general, I wasn't a big fan of this dish. The braised short rib was very tender, but the whole plate sat in a pool of salty sauce. I couldn't really make out any other flavors. The scoop of crème fraiche tasted exactly like sour cream and was not the consistency that I expected. The gnocchi's were made well, but I prefer mine a little firmer. However, this is complete personal preference. Overall, service was good, but food fell severely short of what I expected. I was so excited for all of these elevated flavors and ingredients, but, sadly, none of them came through.

The check came inside of a book. Yes an actual reading book. Fun fact: right next door is a bookstore. And these were unpopular books that the owner didn't have a heart to toss, so they rehoused them with white horse and this place put them to use by delivering checks. Very unique. For someone who enjoys touching old books. (I mean I really like the feel and smell of flipping through book pages.) I like this concept.
