Went to Beard Papa's to get 6 Taiyaki which is not cheap $25 for six. I have had them there before and they are good. That's why we wanted to have them again. However our experience this time was horrible. We ordered it at 8:08pm, we did not leave the joint until 8:50. A six course dinner could have been prepared with that time. The staff all college age could only say sorry and have a nice day. Tony P, you need to train your staff to provide better customer service. It's ok to make mistakes, just do something nice to make it up. For example customer are fickle and can be bribed. Throw in a mochi or whatever for the mistake. That way I would not be writing this and you would also not loose a customer. I may not be away forever but Beard Papa is definitely not a place I would recommend or patron at this moment in time. Do not tell us to have a nice day when you know we are not satisfied with the service we received it only makes situation worse. Make sense? read more

Absolutely worst customer service from the owner of this business. Cashier tried to charge me $32 for 2 dozen mini cream puffs when their menu and website state that it is $26. My kids love the mini puffs here so I stop by at least once a month for the last few years. So I asked them why the price is different. The girl who was ringing me up stated that "that's the price they are ringing up at". I proceeded to tell her that their menu price is different and that even if you were to add tax there is no way its $32. So she goes and checks and then rerings it. What do you know...it is supposed to be $26. She then tells me, oh there was another charge for something else on the register before she rang me up. WTH! No sorry, nothing. She acts like she didn't do anything wrong. Then the owner bring me my puffs. I told him the mistake his cashier made, but he doesn't even acknowledge that anything is wrong. Ok, whatever. So I double check to make sure that my order is correct. 1 dozen vanilla puffs, 6 green tea and 6 chocolate. Nope, wrong order - 12 vanilla and 12 chocolate. He then dashes off and brings me 6 chocolate and 6 green tea. I appreciate that he fixed my order, but it is infuriating that he completely ignored the fact that they were overcharging me! It's not like I was expecting to get my order free, but a few words of apology on behalf of the mistake his cashier made and a gesture of some sort to make up for the wrong order would have gone a long way. It's a pity that this place has such poor customer service. They have lost a long time customer. read more

Cute place. Went for the cream puffs but they ran out. Got a strawberry crossaint instead which was really good! Located in a quaint small town esque part of tustin, the bakery contains wooden furniture which gives it a homey feel and outdoor seating. Hoping to finally try some of their cream puffs next time. read more

At this point Beard Papa is a known quantity. A really delicious one, but a known quantity all the same. The ones offered inside the Mochilato were exactly what I was looking for as a last-minute potluck offering. They didn't have any pastries immediately available outside of the classic puffs (I would have loved to have had some eclairs for the variety), but the classics are the classics for a reason! My order of a dozen, plus two more thrown in for free, was pumped out quickly and efficiently, and the puffs were a total hit at the party! If I have more time in the future, I'd definitely wait for some of the other offerings, but it's good to know that I can rely on the Beard Papa here for a quick fix! read more

I enjoyed the cream puff from this store but that was in Vancouver. This location however wasn't as good. I got the minis and the dough was a bit tough. Maybe it was late at night and was not freshly made. Would recommend getting these as soon as they're made or else it hardens. read more

Delicious pastries!!! The cream puffs were amazing!! I ended up buying a box to take home and it was one of the best decisions I've made.

As others have already mentioned, the puffs are stale. They just sit there and I'm not even sure if they make them in house, but probably not. I went on a Sunday and the cream flavors were only vanilla and chocolate. I got the vanilla cream in a cookie puff. I've tried Beard Papa's in Hollywood and that was so much better. If they didn't have stale puffs, I would be going here all the time. I do really like the idea of Beard Papa's and Mochilato partnering up. Who doesn't love cream puffs, shaved ice, and mochilato? I certainly do, but I'd much rather go with some mochilatos and shaved ice and forego the puffs. read more

The employee simply took out an empty cream puff shell from some compartment or fridge underneath the counter and proceeded to squirt some custard inside. Not to be a Scrooge, but for the price I paid, the cream puff looked undersized. I took a bite into the cream puff and it was evident that the outer shell was stale and not fresh. What happened to that light and airy shell that I was used to? The custard inside actually wasn't that bad, and the chocolate shell on the cream puff was pretty tasty. Beard Papa's! One of my favorite places for a dang good cream puff. I am not a fan of the usual cream puff, but Beard Papa's custardy cream is delicious! I always get the Cookie Crunch Puff - on top of the usual puff, you get a nice sweet layer of sugar cookie crunch baked in. And you can't go wrong with the original flavor filling - vanilla! We had green tea the other day and it was yummy, too. I think I prefer the original, just because it's a little richer in flavor. They are all definitely decadent, though. I love that they pump each puff chock full of cream custard, so much that creamy goodness oozes out with every bite! A little side note, specialty flavors are sold here on a rotating basis. I was really excited to try this place! I waited a really long time for two cream puffs that were pre-made and watched as they filled several orders that were placed long after mine. If the flavors had been great I would've let it slide but these were not worth the wait. My daughter didn't even eat hers. I was expecting more of a traditional cream puff rather than a custard. It was chewy and I wouldn't have known it was cookies and cream at all. We will continue our adventures with other places. read more

We invited some friends over for dinner, and they brought us a box of 6 mix/match cream puffs from Beard Papa's! In the box were the original cream puffs, green tea cream puffs, eclairs filled with vanilla cream, and eclairs filled with green tea cream. They were all delicious - comparable to the Beard Papa's I tried in Japan. The cream was cold, thick, and decadent. The shell was light and fluffy like a cream puff should be. I especially enjoyed the ones with green tea filling, they had a distinct matcha green tea taste. Yum! read more

Finally! Beard Papa's makes its way to Irvine. Long rumored to open a Irvine location, it comes as a surprise that this established cream puff shop would end up partnering with Mochilato. So rather than have its own store, Beard Papa's is now a part of Mochilato. You won't notice the sign unless you walk up to it. Nonetheless, the cream puffs are still as good and fresh. Variety is limited compared to other locations but this may just be that it just opened. Still, you can't go wrong with those delicious fresh vanilla cream pastries. I was so sad when the Beard Papa's on Harbor closed. So I was extremely happy when I saw that another had opened up inside of Mochilato! I've been here a couple of times and each day has a different flavor, there's a menu on the wall. I love that they fill the puffs when you order them so that the puff doesn't get soggy while waiting for someone like me to come along and buy it. The puffs remain very light and crispy. The first time I came, I had the green tea cream and it was delicious! It had that matcha green tea flavor. The second time, I tried the banana creme and it tasted exactly like a banana cream pie, which happens to be a favorite type of pie of mine. They definitely fill the puff to the brim with cream too. My only reservation is that the cream canisters sit out on the counter all day long, without any noticeable refrigeration. That second time, the cream was only room temperature, and that's not something you want in a dairy product. These cream puffs are larger than average so you get what you pay for. I love the variety in cream flavors, I just hope they find a way to keep the cream cooler. Oh, and a tip for eating cream puffs: find the hole where they injected the cream and start eating from that side first ;) read more

Beard Papas in orange county, finally! I don't think anything beats the original cream flavor but I wanted to try the green tea one anyway. I know some people like it, but I thought it tasted horrible. However, I've fallen for the original creampuffs. They are light and crispy and the cream is just enough to satisfy each bite. I came on Wednesday especially to try the banana crème creampuff but they ran out of large shells. The girl in front of us got the last 2 and almost all the small shells as well. Apparently there was a misunderstanding in price so she ended up not taking the smaller puffs which put the puffmaker in a bad mood right before he helped us. He tossed the unwanted puffs in the back counter. When we asked him what was left, he said he only had the mini ones. I knew he was going to give us the ones he tossed aside which I didn't mind but the right thing to do was to let us know or ask if that was ok, which I would've appreciated and said yes anyways. Plus he looked freaking mean! I think every puffmaker should have a smile on his face. I would.. And he said they didn't have any more banana crème which is probably a lie because the creampuffs were already filled with regular cream. I like coming here and all but the service turned me off. The beard papa cream puffs are delicious as everyone says. They're a pretty decent size and there's different options. I like the regular custard ones. Mochi also has other things and one of them is croissant taiyakis which are delicious!! I've gone for the croissant taiyakis twice within a month already. They are perfectly crisp croissant layers and have just the right amount of sugar. I've only tried the custard filling and they use the same filling as the beard papas, but I'm definitely going to try the other fillings next time. read more

Beard Papa: A very INCONSISTENT place. Sometimes a let-down. :( I'm sorry to say this about a restaurant that I like and appreciate but when It doesn't meet expectations and customer satisfaction that's when I have an issue. The let-downs about Beard Papa's: * NEVER have the "daily" flavor * Paris-Brest tastes nasty! soggy and old. The cream is barely inside. The cream filling is only in a 1/3 of the round Paris-Brest. To be fair, here are some positives: * Regular-sized cream puffs taste fresh bc they tend to sell quite well throughout the day so it's not siting there. * Good price for a box of minis cream puffs. read more

The cream puffs, mochi, and the coffee were good but the girl who helped me was terrible at answering my questions. Every question I had for her, for example "which of your coffee drinks has the most caffeine content", she would answer with "all of our coffee is on that menu right there"... I wanted to understand their products better because I've never been there before but somehow their own staff doesn't know their own menu either and answers with "blah blah is listed here." I LOVE Beard Papa's. Irvine, LA, SF, NYC...If I'm visiting someplace and there is a Beard Papa's I'm there. The classic vanilla cream puff is my favorite. It is thick, creamy, smooth and the shell is flaky. The powdered sugar adds the right amount of sweetness. I have been to some locations with not great customer service, but the cream puff is just so good. read more
