Burrito Hamburger
Geronimo T.

Me and my wife tried this burger joint prior to my movie starting at the AMC theater. It was a rainy Friday around 4pmsh. It was not busy at all. Walked up to the front counter and looked at the menu. Its a Order and sit type of establishment. Ordered a double patty Mexican hamburger and a Hamburger buritto along with Wine and Beer. Received my beer and wine upon order. Waited about 10 minutes for my name to be called out for food pick up. Took a bite out of this Mexican american Fusion hamburger, I must say... it wasn't too bad at all. My wife enjoyed her hamburger burrito as well. Fries were tasty. "No complaints on the food." Had the opportunity to meet John who I believe is the owner of this establishment. He was friendly and courteous. He checked up on us a couple of time just to see how we were doing, which was nice and professional of him to do. Had a conversation regarding the history of how his business burger was established. Along conversations of Europe and eateries in Mexico. Just the conversation I had with John displayed genuine characteristics. It was a warm conversation that gives you a welcoming feeling. He cares about his customers. Kudos to John. Overall, this place has true potential to be successful. They just opened up a few months ago but needs word of mouth to spread the news about this fusion burger. I would definitely come back!. Good food and good customer service. Mexican American fusion is one of a kind. Also, If you are a Cal State LB student, show your ID and get $3 off your order regardless of day and time. The good thing is they serve alcohol beverages and soon to implement happy hour soon, which I am looking forward to it. Check this place out if you are in the area. You won't be dissapointed! Plenty of parking too.

Another visit to Beasties. I decided to try their chicken tacos instead of of my usual smash burger. Definitely a unique concept, a chicken breast squashed inside a taco shell, served with Guac and Queso. Guac was spicey but very tasty. I did dine-in and found the tacos a bit difficult to eat but still enjoyed them. I ordered the combo, it's a great price to upgrade to combos. I haven't had their fries since my first visit, during their first week, and didn't care of the seasoning. They definitely learn from feedback. This visit, I loved the fries, perfect amount of seasoning, perfect doneness. I still miss the openess of the old EAT layout. The staff is behind thick glass (maybe that is needed in these times) and it's difficult for each of us to hear one another even with the mic and head sets. It certainly isn't as busy as EAT was but they are still new. There menu is much small then EAT's but still tasty options.

The smash cheeseburger. Sooo good!!! The Mexican seasonings had me in a chokehold.

This place will be in heavy rotation for us when we want an upgraded smash burger. They have all the flavors and seasonings of a taco but as a smash burger, then to top it off, they give you this yummy queso cheese sauce AND some sort of onion garlic blend to dip your burger (or smash taco) into! The taco is pretty much a smash burger patty inside of a taco shell so they reheat well the next day. I popped it in the air fryer and it was as if it were freshly cooked. Fries were crispy and also were so good when you dipped them in the cheese sauce. The inside is small but we went at night and to our surprise the outside patio was heated and was very cozy. They have clean bathrooms. Parking is free and it's right near AMC and Barnes and Noble. Both myself and hubby gave it 5/5!

Diet Coke!!!

We were looking for tacos and Beasties popped up. We brought the teen and ordered one of each to try: taco, burrito and burger. They were all good, but the taco that we had come for was our least favorite. The burrito and burger were really good -- we like the chorizo/beef smashed patties. They serve the combos with a queso sauce that is great for dipping, as well as spicy peppers if you're into that. The fries were cooked well. We want to go back to try the chicken specials, since we totally missed that menu when we ordered. And they have fountain Diet Coke, which you know is a must. There's just a little counter seating inside and then there are a number of tables outside. You order through one of those mic windows and honestly, the worker sounded like he was on Mars. This is not a light meal. It definitely sat heavy on my stomach that night. Might be better for lunch.

Beasties is a Mexican meets American food. They specialize in Mexican smash burgers and smash tacos. They also have burgeritos, fries made with tallow, and desserts. Although it's a unique concept I cannot say I am a huge fan. I came for lunch one day and ended up trying their burgeritos which is a burrito with smashburger meat inside. It came with a sweet aioli sauce. Although it was probably done right it just wasn't for me. I do appreciate that they use 100% USDA choice meats and tallow fries but it didn't go together well for me. I would come back and try their burgers though and the tallow fries separate. Their churros also looked good. The service was excellent. They were helpful, quick, and really nice about clean up. This place took over the old Eat Fantasic spot. Inside seating is limited but they have a good outdoor seating patio.

I mean, once you've tried a smash burger; you've pretty much tried them all. Same burger crispy taste; BUT! But! The touch of adding chorizo to these burgers def set them apart. Not necessarily a big wow factor, but a interesting and nice touch to the smash burger. Again, it's alright. Nothing crazy, def enjoy the queso dip.

Uno Combo + Guava Jamaica Mexican Soda

Stumbled upon Beasties's opening weekend on the way to the AMC. The place had a cool brewery vibe so we stopped by to check it out. I ordered an Uno combo with no chorizo and asked to sub the fountain soda with a house made Mexican soda. Unfortunately, substitutions aren't available, but I was able to get the fountain drink canned so I opted to purchase the house made Mexican soda. The Guava Jamaica was a bit watered down and flat for my taste and the burger still had a kick of chorizo; however the fries were good and the side of cheese was a nice touch. Overall the food was of good quality and had good texture, but I'm just not a fan of chorizo which can easily overpower other flavors.

MUST COME TO BEASTIES! Your next flavor explosion awaits! Perfect location in the Marina Pacifica Shopping Center next to the AMC theater LOTS of parking! Beasties has a simple flavor bomb menu which includes the tastiest fries Ive ever had! (Cooked in beef tallow) drool drool! We tried the tacos and smash burger with their cheesy queso sauce sooo tasty! Both were spectacular! Oh and their soft serve ice cream is amazing both the chocolate and the horchata have this hint of cinnamon BOTH AMAZING! What an awesome concept! I can't say enough other than get over there and try it all! (They have a burrito too!) Highly recommend! Definitely coming back!!

If you only make one thing, you gotta make it right. And yes, they make it right. Soooo maybe it's sorta more than one thing. Burgers, fries, churros, and ice cream. All of their entrees are variations of their smashburger: single, double, triple, as tacos, as a California burrito, or as a hot mess pile of fries. We tried their burger combos, which came with fries and a drink. It was absolutely delicious. They totally nailed the texture and the flavors of the burger -- every ingredient played a role, and I think that's really how it's intended to be eaten for like maximum enjoyment. That, and you gotta embrace the indulgence: if you're counting calories, you're gonna have a sad time. This burger, while not enormous, is probably while this place is called Beasties. Cuz it's a beast. The fries were bomb, fried in tallow. The queso that came with the burger was rich and slightly spicy. And their soft-serve was HUGE. I got it swirled with both their custom flavors (horchata and Mexican hot chocolate), and horchata was superior by far. Everything was so good. I hope you check them out! Just bring your appetite..

This place is great, but it has one weird design. You order at a window inside. I think they were trying to go for a similarity of another chain but they sure are different. This food was terrific and nothing I've had before. They definitely put a Latin twist on burgers and fries and I can't stress the deliciousness behind it all. We got the uno burger which is a smash burger with jalapeños and chorizo and white American cheese. You could feel the grease from the chorizo but it all went together so good. Next came the two tacos and they were as well. The tortilla tasted fresh and crunchy and the beef chorizo mix was about the same as the burger, plus it had green peppers at the bottom, which reminded me of food in New Mexico. Lastly, the beastie fries were very impressive. Guacamole, a smash burger with cheese, their special sauce and fries all put together. Every bite was better than the first. I even took it out of the paper boat, laid it flat on the table and scraped it for all it was worth. This is a spot for late nights. It's that perfect addition one needs after a long night of drinking where the grease goes well with your buzz.

Uno Smashburger Combo with Roasted Jalapeños on the side
Claire G.

Ordered the Uno Mexican Smashburger Combo will jalapeños on the side, a Smash Taco combo, and San Diablo Churros. The Smashburger was okay; definitely glad I ordered the delicious roasted jalapeños on the side because although they were delicious, they were spicy at the same time! I ate pieces of the jalapeños after every bite of the Smashburger. Was expecting a nicer crunch and better flavors of the fries since they're fried in beef tallow, but they were a bit bland. The Smash Taco was okay, it had similar flavors to the Smashburger. The flavor and texture of the churros were delicious, the cinnamon sugar was a bit too much though. Friendly service - Andrew took our order and was very helpful by carrying our orders to the outdoor seating area. Nice outdoor seating. Self serve soft drinks. Cool decor.

A hard no for me. The chorizo added in the burger just was not tasty to me or my brother. We both like chorizo but in our scrambled eggs. The fries I ordered were not crunchy and fried soft. Now the customer service when ordering my food and receiving it was great. Theres seating inside and outside. I'll give Besties another try and order something from their dessert menu.

Single smash burger with a side of queso
Paul L.

The interior concept is reminiscent of Win-Dow, with an ordering window positioned at the front of the building and only a handful of seats available, approximately around ten, making it a tight fit for larger groups. The menu offers an intriguing hybrid of Mexican and American flavors, highlighted by a Spanish chorizo jalapeño SMASHBURGER served with queso (cheese-wiz) on the side. Our order arrived fairly quickly. I admire the creativity, but the execution leaned heavily toward greasy, fatty, and oily, which made the burger OVERWHELMING. That same richness carried over to the BEASTIE FRIES, and the HEAVINESS of both dishes proved too much for me to finish.

I mean look at this bathroom art!

Any plans to add vegetarian options to the menu?

Hi Hanna! Thanks for reaching out. We don’t currently have vegetarian options on the menu, but we’re always exploring ways to expand. If there’s enough interest, something veggie‑friendly could be on the horizon.

Is there a vegetarian option!?

Unfortunately, they do not have any vegetarian options except for the ice cream and beverages. The fries are fired in beef tallow so even those are not an option.

I stopped by on a Friday afternoon and waited about 20 minutes for a table. The wait was well worth it because each dish offered an explosion of flavors. My favorite dish was the birria, with the salmon ceviche as a close second. The mole was great too, but I'd say the other two dishes were more memorable and something I'd return for. I can't recommend the birria enough, as the flavors were reminiscent of what I've had in Mexico, very authentic. The space is small and can feel a bit tight, but sometimes the best food comes from these types of "hole in the wall" places. Ultimately, I'd say give Lola's a try! The soup here lacks the tastebud awakening zip that Don Chato's has. The ono fish taco experience was my fault... I hate fried fish taco, so I had lofty expectations, but due to the fact that I do not prefer corn tortillas, guacamole or raw onions, led to much disappointment since It has all three. Totally my fault. The butternut enchilada was lacking in the expected savoriness... this is being polite. The potato taquito was okay... but I am not a taquito person, so if you are I would seriously encourage you to try it. The star of the table was the Mexican corn. It may not compete with Cornman in Lincoln Heights, but it was decent. I scraped off the onions and toppings on the ono tacos, put the fish on the flour tortillas that another person didn't want, and topped the fish with refried beans, street corn and a but if the chicken tortilla soup broth to make due. When you are driving more than 30 minutes for this experience, I think you would agree that it was less that a proper way to celebrate a birthday. Oh and if there isn't any street parking. It'll cost you about 9 bucks in the lot. I didn't use the restroom, so I cant review its cleanliness. Our waitress was flawless taking orders and delivering food The restaurant itself has a great layout and an outdoor courtyard complete with propane heaters and umbrellas - I loved that... but my favorite part was out front, no not the seating area in the former parking spaces, nope... it was the collapsed woman on the sidewalk, walking her dog with snot running out of her nose because she was huffing some aerosol can of whatever. This truly set the mood upon arrival. Two stars for being close to a lot of other food choices to visit afterward.

I opted for the carne asada plate - simple and not spicy. Hubby ordered the Carne en su Jugo- very spicy with tomatillo broth and serranos, cilantro, bacon and onions. Both of our entrees came with bean soup and tortillas. The chips/ salsa starter was addictive. Huge basket of fresh warm chips, and a salsa like no other! Chunks of veggies and just the right spice. It was hard to get those chunks on the chips but it was delicious. My carne asada was tasty, a large portion with grilled scallion and rice. I wish some of the "bean soup" had been pureed to be a bit thicker but the broth was good, with a variety of beans. Hubby's dish had an interesting flavor, very spicy. He wished the broth had some rice, though, to accompany it. We could come back weekly to try many more entrees. Their salads sound tasty, too. Service was great.

As the game was happening, one of the tequila sponsors was there offering deals. Shot and a jersey. Tony took care of us that night and he was amazing. Made sure that we got everything we needed. Very sweet as well. Happy hour menu offered a good amount of items for a great deal. As well as draft beer and cocktails. Regular menu is great as well which we've had before. Food, an order of the tostada both with shrimp and aguachili. Served with two small tostada and handful of crevice on top. Both were quite tasty and very well flavored in the juice. Also two of the street tacos with birria. They were quite small but did have a major punch of flavor to it. And well priced at 2.50 a piece. Of course the crinkle cut loaded fries with added carne asada. Seemed like it was a popular item as every table had it. It was good but a little skimpy with the topping. Lastly the chicken wings, lemon pepper flavor. Six piece tossed in the sauce. It was good but way too salty for my liking. We still enjoyed everything we had. As we got the shot with the jersey earlier, the person who was affiliated with the sponsor brand was walking around with more shot. I must say, it does hit the spot big time...lol...
