I've been to countless hair stylists and LaTanya is THE BEST! I get a touch up relaxer and blow out/flat iron about every 4-6 months for manageability. I've been doing this for about 15 years and this is the first time a stylist has been able to help my hair GROW! I've tried various techniques ranging from Dominican style blow-outs, texturizers, keratin treatments, etc. and I regret not finding LaTanya sooner! What I love about her process is that she gets me in and out on time so I don't have to spend an entire day at the salon, and it's pain-free. I do not have to endure excessive and unbearable heat while under the dryer and I leave without a single burn. I must preface that I did not use this business and I live out of state. This feedback is strictly based on behavior and opinion as someone who operates a business. I reached out to this salon in January with a request to hire for my wedding in June. Latonya responded promptly and we set up a call to speak about the event. I sent her photos of the me and the bridesmaids, I sent her my inspirations for the look I wanted, address of venue and timeline. I tried to set up some time to meet with her in February since I was in town but we could not align our schedules. During that time I also let her know I had a bridesmaid fall out and the number of heads that needed to be done had changed. I explained that my next time in town would be May and although we were down to the wire, she confirmed May 29th or 30th would be best. I confirmed I'd be in town May 30th and asked the best time to come to the shop. She never responded. Although there were no contracts signed, I was now in a time crunch with 3 weeks left to find someone. I was extremely disappointed. Mainly because I bought a flight and I took time off work based on the information given to me. If she had just said, I can't do the job, it would've saved me so much time and energy. She was professional, kind and made good conversation that was a nice balance of letting me relax and have fun! I really enjoyed the small details in the decor of the studio. Candace is a sought after stylist, unfortunately she did a horrible job with my hair! I went in for a regular just wash and flat iron but what I left with was split ends and dry hair. I know I'm biased, but I'm being honest about it from the beginning. You've been warned, so do what you will with that information. I love LaTanya. I've been coming to her for all my hair-styling needs for years and years (and years!) now. Shoot, I used to fly in from out of state, just to get my hair cut and colored by her! True story! She's seen me through the many stages of my hair - from long to short, from my natural color to blonde and blonde-ish and browns and chocolates - and she's never steered me wrong in any suggestions. I often come in saying, "LaTanya, I just want to chop it all off!" and she'll talk me off the ledge, suggesting different things that we can do to make me love my hair again. I've also said things like, "I want red highlights. Let's do it!" and instead of just shrugging and putting the color in my hair, she's been honest in telling me that it'd be a waste of money, that it would just fade out quickly and disappear before I even noticed it. The only thing that I hate is that I can NEVER make my hair look as pretty as LaTanya does! When I stand up out of her chair, my hair is perfectly styled, looking good enough to photograph, and even though I'm always happy and in awe of what she did, there's that small voice at the back of my head that says, "You'll never be able to make it look like this yourself!" Okay, the voice isn't small. It isn't in the back of my head. I always tell her that I have NO chance of making my hair look that pretty ever again. I just need her to do house-calls, so that my hair looks as fabulous as the minute I walk out of her shop every day! Her prices are fair, and she's a genuinely wonderful person. LaTanya is very knowledgeable and has years of experience. She actually cared about what products I used in my hair and gave me recommendations. I will not be attempting business with this salon again. I don't know how money is made this way. Such a great experience! Candace was really cool and professional. I went in for a silk press and trim after not having my hair straightened for 3 years after a traumatizing over-processing experience at a different salon. I have very thick, kinky, medium length 4c type hair. It can be pretty intimidating but it didn't faze Candace. She moved through my hair with ease and gave me some awesome pointers and product recommendations for my scalp issues and hair styling. She gave me realistic expectations about how long my silk press would last and my results were really awesome. The salon experience was nice too. It's a humble and convenient spot with decent parking. All of the stylists I encountered were super friendly. Sometimes salons can be a little intimidating, this was not one of those places. This is a review for Melissa, one of the new hairdressers at this salon. She does braids and weaves and in this particular case she did braids on my daughter's hair-cornrows with hair added in-so she could go swimming and be carefree while out of town. The reason I felt the need to post a review is because this lady was able to wash and blow dry my kid's hair with no tears or screaming. That's a miracle because at home she acts like I'm killing her! My daughter said it's the blow dryer. Ok. Anyway, the braids turned out great(didn't think to get a pic) and my kid left happy. We will gladly be back for Melissa to braid up Miss Monet's hair again. Maybe even blowouts and flat irons since she's so gentle and I'm such a beast! ;-)) read more

Wrote this review so long ago but somehow never got posted to this shops page. Lived in SD for over a year and heard lots of great things about this salon but never went because I honestly felt the prices were too steep. Not going to lie I'm cheap but my birthday came around and I decided to treat myself. A month prior I had cut all my hair off after years of heat damage and had a cute little fro, despite that I was missing the straight hair and thought if I went to a professional I could avoid heat damage and my hair would get proper care. WRONG!!!! I went on my birthday and got my hair done by Teri. I have extremely soft hair and the whole time she kept commenting how nice it was. I asked her to flat iron it and let her know my concerns about heat damage. She assured me my hair would curl right back up when washed and would not be damaged, WRONG again! I should have know because the first red flag was the burnt smell as she was doing my hair, I tried not to panic and dismissed it. Can't recall if it was a day or two later but I got tired of my straight hair and decided to wash it so I could rock my fro. My hair wouldn't curl at all when I washed it, it was limp and had this awful smell. I called her up the next day and she informed me that she did a hard press, not sure why she did that!!! A hard press uses more heat and I said I DID NOT want heat damage. Plus my hair is super soft and doesn't require excessive amounts of heat. She then told me to come by the salon and she'd fix it. This was her idea of a fix, washing my hair, putting some product in it and scrunching my hair up with her fingers in an attempt to make it curl. She then told me to give it a month and my curls SHOULD return. It is now June and my hair is still bone straight, my new growth is the only curl I have. I'm so upset about it and regret even going to get my hair done. In addition the price jumped from $40 when I first made the appointment to $65 after she was done. I absolutely hate when stylists don't make clients aware of all the charges, it's misleading. I can't speak on the other stylists but if you have natural hair and want to keep your curls think twice. read more

Talk about a review that is WAAAAY overdue!!!! I found LaTanya on Yelp, so I feel it's only right that I return the favor. Simply put LaTayna's hands are magical. When I first started getting my hair done by her, I came in only focused on getting my chin-length natural hair colored. But LaTanya took her time to examine my hair and recommend that we care for it first so the color would damage my dried out tresses. I'm glad I listened. That first day, I walked out of the salon swinging my hair like Beyonce! My hair was soft, full and healthy looking. I didn't think she could impress me more...then she colored my hair. As a color virgin I was nervous but trusted that I was in good hands. Boy, did I underestimate how well LaTanya knows her color. I showed her a few pictures and told her to do her thing. You can see from the pictures she did the damn thing alright! The other thing about LaTanya that is so great is that she doesn't just want to make sure your hair looks nice, she really wants to make sure your hair healthy. She empowers you with information and tools to keep your hair well cared for in between visits. Granted I can never get it to look as amazing as she does, but I've been going to her for less than 6 months and my hair has grown at least an inch. And my hair has NEVER grown that fast. I was a client of Latonya's for a little over a year and she was wonderful!!! Latonya is not only a great stylist but a professional hair care expert. She always uses quality products, keeps her self up to date about hair care and not to mention can style like no other. I relocated to the bay area about two years ago and my family and I still talk about how healthy Latonya had my hair looking. I remember when I first walked in to see her my hair looked like a bird's nest lol. When I had my last appointment my hair went through a transformation. Silky, thick, long (almost to the middle of my back, and no bad broken ends. She did my relaxers and once she did a hair color on me that was the bomb for that spring and summer. I was not impressed by this salon at all. I'm a little disappointed being that they had so many good reviews. First let me start off by saying I'm natural so I was looking for someone who knew how to DO natural hair. Well according to the reviews Latanya came highly recommended. By the end of my appt I didn't see why. First I was sent a text with the wrong address to the salon. Then when I get there she puts me in the washing chair. After washing my hair she conditions it, but didn't comb as the condition was in my hair. she put me under the dryer and even after the dryer and before rinsing she still didn't detangle my hair. Lets not all forget that detangling is a huge part when being natural. Next...she asked me for the second time what I was getting done. I said for the second time "a trim and blow out" well she begins to blow dry my hair WITH OUT detangling or sectioning my hair. And my hair is thick and I have a lot so she should of knew better. then after blow drying she plugs up her flat iron. So I then again had to remind her my style is a "blow out" she then proceeds to say "well how are you going to wear it" after that I figured she doesn't know anything about natural hair. I was glad she clipped my ends correctly and not much off. I will definitely not be going back. I will be going back to my regular stylist in LA. This salon was wonderful! My natural hair was in a horrible state and I was hiding it under a baseball cap. I called and Candace was able to squeeze me in. This salon takes better safety precautions than my doctor's office. Temperature upon entry, immediately followed by trip to sink for hand washing. The stations are Santized between appointments and there are no groupings of people in here. I felt safe and the owner(s) are always professional.
