I am very sad to give them two stars. We were part of their wine club for years but they've gotten a little too big for their britches. They're no longer about customer service and it makes me very sad. We saved up tastings tickets for years and would always bring our friends from out of town when they would come to visit. But we came last week and tried to use some of our tickets for our anniversary and they said no they had to be used on the day that we picked up our wine. Part of being in the wine club was the tastings were included. They never said that we had to use them the day we picked up our wine, after being in the wine club for years and paying more for wine then we could get in the grocery store and being sent wines that we didn't even like now we're told we can't use our wine tasting tickets. Really disappointed. I've been wanting to go to this vineyard for years always hearing about it, drinking their wine in restaurants, and for the lavender. Four people in our party wanted to do a wine tasting but they wouldn't let us because 5 other people who don't drink wine were with us. They don't allow 9 people without a reservation but we were not 9. It was crazy. Really they were rude to us the minute we walked in. I'm not sure this vineyard understands hospitality considering some of the other reviews here that show a pattern of snootiness, poor service, and an unwillingness to take responsibility for their reason for existing in the first place...their patrons. From my experience this is the only vineyard I've ever visited who does not love on their customers the minute they walk in the door. I don't recommend it. There are so many other choices in the area now. Becker is just being mismanaged and it's really sad. read more

Hands down my favorite winery in Fredericksburg. I absolutely love "the raven" and wish it wasn't so pricey! Their wine tour is very interactive and fun, and I think their wine cellar is so charming and neat. I love going down there! The place smells wonderful as they grow their own lavender and they're very friendly to large groups, bachelorette parties, families, etc. it's really a space meant to be shared and enjoyed by all, and thats why I love it! One thing that they've changed which is disappointing is they no longer serve pre-made charcuterie boards with assorted meats, cheeses and crackers. They still sell items a la carte, but I liked when they put one together for you and sold them in the lavender haus. I think the prettiest time of year to be at Becker is in September when they have their beautiful rainbow colored flowers blooming. It is so charming and romantic! read more

Amanda Alba was the best wine hostess we had while in Fredericksburg. She was knowledgable about the wine,she has a great personality, very funny and such a sweetheart. She made our first wine tasting a wonderful experience. We went back and saw her on Saturday and enjoyed a bottle of Becker's Riesling wine and listened to the live music. Of our six samples, the '13 White Wing was my favorite. Usually I prefer Cab. or Merlot, so this was a surprise. Perhaps the Texas heat made me prefer the chilled whites. Bobby was especially helpful. Very scenic. Great place for a picnic (with wine). read more

Well, it is March 15th 2016 and Spring Break is in session. We came out to Becker Winery and there weren't more than 25 cars and lots of parking available. Went inside and walked around the grounds. Cool breeze blowing and very few clouds in the sky. We did not do the wine tasting and just bought a bottle of their Pinot Grigio. Brought our own picnic lunch and had a fantastic time enjoying our meal underneath the shade of an old Oak tree. Traffic stated coming in after 12:00. Can't bring alcohol in, but you can enjoy the grounds and a picnic without buying anything. Buying a bottle of wine or doing any wine tasting is optional. read more

Absurdly long food lines and limited/way overpriced food options at the your festival. Only one food truck with limited choices and high prices...We spent 45 minutes in line and that's just terrible & totally unacceptable. I really hate having my time wasted by things like this... However your grounds are lovely but there was not enough shade or chairs. It just didn't live up to the hype. Will not be coming back unless it's for a small group wine tour. Becker Vineyards simply did not prepare for the volume of people there and it showed. After doing this vent for 18 years (as your site claims) shouldn't you have the planning part of this licked by now? read more

Becker vineyards saved our day! We wanted to do a day of wine tastings but our first experience was terrible. We ended up at Becker afterwards and were so glad! The ambiance was great, the area beautiful, and the wine was fantastic. They were very busy, but we were served quickly by Shey who was amazing. He did a great job of giving us wines that matched our specific pallets, while keeping up with several other guests. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return, largely because of the excellent customer service. read more

I've been to Becker many times and I consistently purchase their wine in the grocery store. The Reserve Merlot and the Iconoclast Cab are my favorite grocery store wines! The tasting room is beautiful and the seating outside is enjoyable. We've stomped grapes and listened to live music at Becker. It's normally pretty packed so expect a bit of a wait. I may have mentioned in earlier posts we were in San Antonio in early 2000 for about a year and we visited them when they were still pretty early in the development phase. Where you now enter the main tasting area which now sells Lavender and wine-related products--that was the tasting area! They have really grown since then. I believe they are the largest vineyard in the 290 corridor and you can find many of their wines at HEB. Their staff have always been among the most friendly you can find. This is a GREAT winery with reasonable prices for their flagship wines. If you are active duty, you can get a free tasting! I especially like their Iconoclast Red and Malbec. (My wife is the white wine expert in our house.) Becker is not an exclusive, small run vintages vineyard. They do a very credible job of producing larger vintages, which in my opinion, put many of the $60.00 per bottle wines to shame. I've mentioned it all boils down to what tastes good to you. While stationed in Europe, I've had some VERY expensive wines which made me cringe---the "hype" factor. This is a very very good winery--the best??? It depends on what you are looking for. I was at a friend's birthday where we had hired a bus to drive us round to 3 vineyards, including Becker. We were turned away due to our group size - I would normally get that, but we were a little bit confused because they said they could fit two groups of 8 (2x8=16), and we were only 12... we offered to split into two groups of 6, but they just refused. This was our FIRST vineyard - so it's not like we were drunk or anything. Given our very tight schedule (we had only allotted 45 minutes at Becker) we needed to get going and find another vineyard in order to not ruin my friend's event - that is when things got crazy. As we were trying to hurry up and leave, a Becker employee and a security guard chased us down the driveway (silly us... we thought maybe they had changed their mind and were going to let us in) so we stopped and she GOT ON OUR BUS and wouldn't leave until we told her which tour company we had hired for our trip. We tried to tell her that we had planned the trip ourselves and there WAS NO TOUR COMPANY - but she wouldn't believe us and refused to get off the bus until we told her which company we had used... This was kind of outrageous. Here we were, trying to leave after they turned us away, and this woman is holding us hostage at the front of our bus, refusing to let us pull out of the venue until we gave her this info - which we couldn't give her... This went on for several minutes until our driver eventually gave her his contact info and she let us all know that she would be contacting the shuttle company to make sure that something like this didn't happen again (something like what? People try to patronize your establishment?? How horrible!) It is one thing to turn us away, but it is something entirely different chase after the bus as we were trying to leave and interrupt our party like that. The whole thing was very confusing and needless to say I will not be returning - or ever buying Becker wine. In regard to what the Becker Vineyard PR person commented below (that we directed foul language at her): I want to make it known that I didn't hear any of that, and I wonder what kind of social media PR person you have to blame the customer? I know for a fact that we were totally polite when we got turned away, when we probably shouldn't have been. If there was foul language used it was only after the Becker employee chased us down, entered our bus, and wouldn't leave when we asked her to (funny thing, when Becker asked US to leave we did so promptly) read more

Becker is definitely wino friendly what with the beautiful grounds and the nice huge patio and the delicious wines. My all time fav is of course the viognier which is great for sippin while gazing at lavender fields. This place is big and always busy but I have never had to wait for at pour as they usually have about 8 stations set up on the patio. I have seen people bring food in and have a little picnic on the patio also. Not sure that is encouraged but no one said anything to this apparant bridal shower party (who brought turkey legs???? i have to remember that for next years theme tour----White Trash Wine Tour, complete with bedazzled clothes, decorated flip-flops, lone star beer, boxed wine and cheeze doodles). read more

This was some good wine but not my favorite on the 290 strip - here's why: 1) Impersonal is a great way to put it. The staff do not sell the experience, hill country, or their product. They are simply pour and walk people. After touring almost a dozen vineyards and wineries, Becker's is the least fond in my memory. 2) This place was crowded. The line to buy tickets at 11:30am was over a dozen people long. Finding a spot at the bar for two was a hassle, also. 3) Depending on the server, wine glasses may or may not be rinsed between different wines. That effected the taste of them, especially the transition from white to red. 4) The wine was certainly better than others we had tried before and after Becker (Fiesta, Fat Ass). The price certainly reflects that. 5) We didn't have too much trouble when we left I order food at the "bistro." The service there was slow at the counter, but the kitchen was fast and the sandwich, although definitely not worth $14, was really tasty. Overall, it was not the best, but also not the worst experience. The wine was definitely better than other spots on 290, and ultimately that is what it's all about. read more

Love Love Love this winery! The wines are great and they really take the time to explain the wines and the back stories. We had Staci D. and she is the absolute BEST!! So much fun! She made us feel at home and really helped us pick the best wines. We love the lavender fields and products. The entire property is so beautiful. Such a shame because the property is so pretty but the rudeness ruined it for me and made my family and I feel uncomfortable the whole time we were there. Supreme disappointment. Arrived at 4:46 on a Thursday afternoon, they said that even though their hours of business state open till 5, they only do tastings till 4:46. And even tho we arrived 1 minute after they would not serve us, but were totally willing to allow me to purchase a bottle. Sad sad sad to day that this will be the last time I step on Beckers property let alone buy a bottle from the store. So sad because this was one of my main points of interest on our drive out here. After visiting and doing a wine tasting, I am very surprised at the high ratings and the numerous recommendations. Almost every wine we tried, including the ones recommended as "full bodied", were very bland and boring, lacking in any real flavor or anything to make the experience interesting. Our hostess had very little to share about the wine we were tasting and did not seem to be knowledgeable about the property. Especially given the distance from town and the rest of the wineries, I would not include this as a stop in my wine tasting itinerary. read more

It is a complete zoo on the weekend, you are treated as if you are at a carnival (literally, they give you tickets to redeem for tastes) and, perhaps most importantly, the wine is not very good. Whenever I go out to Texas 'wine country' I always leave Becker for last because I can count on them to have great wines to end the day with. The reserve bottles are worth the $1 a taste, especially the Cabernet. The farm/land the vineyard sits on is vast and provides a really nice realaxing view, especially with all the lavendar. it sucks that a wine tasting experience can totally be tainted by the person who is doing the pouring. becker is lucky that i've had plenty of experiences at their winery, because if i was just rating my experience today, it would be low on the star scale. i have visited this winery more times than i can count over the past 8 years. my favorite times have been when henri was at the bar. he flirted with me in his frenchy way and made us laugh. he appreciated that we got his jokes when the stuffy wine tasters didn't even catch them and he made the experience memorable. what happened to henri? are we going on the wrong days? we like some of the becker wines so much that we drive out to pick up the ones that are only available at the winery. it's a disappointing adventure when the person tending bar is either annoyed or condescending. today was a perfect day for a sunday drive. after running a few errands we decided on a whim to head out to becker for a tasting and to pick up some bottles of their zinfandel. i have been wine tasting in napa, sonoma, dry creek valley (my fave), central coast, colorado, and the texas hill country. my palate has matured with each taste and i've learned a lot about what i like and what i don't like in a wine. what i don't like in a winery is when they employ people who know nothing about the wine. this never seemed to be the case with becker. they've always had knowledgeable staff. it seems they have hired a slew of new people and moved the tasting room over to one of the new structures. this would not bother me a bit, but when the first thing out of our pourer's mouth was judgmental and condescending i wish we could have just walked away to another table. but how do you do that when you've already started a "tasting" (which used to be free, by the way, at becker, but now costs $5 - which is totally fine sans the attitude). mister ponytail man has already handed you your wine glass and started the first pour and then he insults you. him: "you were in lubbock and you didn't know anything about wine?" me: "i was in college. i was 18." him: "i'm 18." my husband: "well, those were different times, wine wasn't everywhere." him: "what year was it?" me: "1990." him: "that's the year i was born." me: (trying to steer the conversation in a positive direction) "that was a great year." him: "i guess." after that failed attempt at pleasant conversation, i looked to the wine list for comfort and noticed one of the wines was recommended by andrea immer robinson. so i tried again... me: "andrea immer robinson, isn't that the lady who has a wine show on the food network?" him: "i don't know, i hate tv." so my husband took over...eventually i rejoined the conversation when film and 1966 came up (brought up by my husband, of course). i don't know why we try so hard to make a connection with people, but we do, even though it can be exhausting sometimes, like today. him: "what's so great about 1966? we weren't even in vietnam in '66." (um, yes we were asshole) we gave him a list of godard and truffaut films to check out. i told him that sometimes it's difficult to see the subtitles on our 13" tv, but he assured me that he would have no problem on his 60" tv. we got our bottles of wine and left to witness a beautiful sunset. (note: once they started charging a tasting fee, they used to deduct it from your purchase, which i guess they don't do anymore? we bought multiple bottles of wine and still had to pay $10 for two tastings.) read more

I thought it speaks volumes that the tasting room is literally filled with scented candles, potpourri, room and linen sprays, lotions, scented oils, etc. Where are their priorities? We thought about just leaving....but we didn't. Texas Hill Country Wine Passport: #2 Tasting: $5 for 6 wine-tasting tickets. Tasting Staff: The one we got was friendly, but rushed Facilities: Large cellar doubles as tasting room with many station and long waits. Beautiful grounds outside, SUPER CROWDED! Wine Dogs: none? We were excited because we'd had several good Becker wines, and our bad experience could be because we visited during Memorial Day weekend, but this place was so uncomfortably packed we felt like we were just part of the herd. There was a long wait in the rushed and chaotic store to purchase tasting tickets (yes, like carnival tickets), then another chaotic wait at a long line of tasting tables to be able to taste. Becker has a lot of wines, and a lot of good wines (we've had them from the liquor store, which is definitely our preferred way to try Becker wines). You have a lot to choose from during the tasting, but the staff is overburdened with the crowds of people doing tastings, many of which can't wait their turn in "line" (i.e. shoving yourself in towards the tasting table). The '06 Malbec, Prairie Roti and '04 Port were good. Also, if you want to purchase a glass of wine to take outside, you have to wait in yet another line, then take your reciept to the really crowded tasting tables, and then they can only put in in a plastic dixie cup. This place was not fun for us, and we wish we had avoided it. read more

Awesome wines and wonderful ambiance. I didn't know what to expect from Texas wineries but this was really nice. The free tour was really great! And the wines were so interesting- the Malbec was unusual, the Chardonnay was so caramely, and the cab franc was awesome and tasted like jalepeno! So ridiculous. First time in Texas, first time at this vineyard. We opt not to do the tasting but order two glasses of wine. Mind you the price per glass is not on the menu. They charge our card for $15/glass, $30 total. We then ask how that can be considering the bottle price is $19/bottle. They say "There's nothing we can do now." Such bad business. We'll take our money elsewhere. Mind you after we expressed we were upset by this, they did NOTHING to rectify the situation, then awkwardly stalked past our table several times. What do you think we're going to do? Steal the glasses as reminders of the worst experience ever? Don't go here - check out William Chris instead. 1000 times better!!!! read more
