This is a beautiful winery. We stopped in thinking we would need a reservation but we gave it a try anyhow. They did squeeze us in - more on that later. The tasting pavilions are fabulous offering great amounts of shade and even on this hot day, it was nice in cool under there. Unfortunately, they didn't seat us there since we didn't have a reservation. They put us at a table in the grass, in full sun even though there was plenty of room under the pavilion. They mentioned they needed that space for some groups coming in... which never showed while we were there. We literally had to rush our tasting due to the heat which was unfortunate (would have given them 5 stars if not for this). The wines were fabulous which came with the glasses. The grounds are beautiful but unfortunately they lost their lavender crop (due to the winter storm) which must be amazing to see in full bloom. Make sure to make a reservation if you plan to visit. Very impressed with the Texas vintners. One thing I would suggest to all these wineries is to offer your tasting fee as a credit towards a bottle purchase. First, we (The wife at least) are in the the wine and spirits industry. Went in to the tasting room, having been there on a trip many years ago. Decided not to do a full tasting, but wanted to support and buy a bottle of Prairie Cuvée. Wife asked for a small sample, and when she prepared to spit into the dump bucket, was told she couldn't use it to spit in. We've been in wineries and tasting rooms all over the world and never heard that. Needless to say we looked at each other, left the bottle we were going to buy on the bar and walked out. I guess if you don't like what you are tasting you need to suck it up buttercup. Context: it is entirely normal to taste and spit, even if you like it, especially if you are going to be tasting a lot. Lots of small tastes still add up. read more

If you set your expectations in advance for what you will and won't find here, you may come away with a better rating in mind than did we. If you go expecting to find perhaps the most impressive tasting room in the Texas Hills wine country re purposed from an 1800's stone barn in a lovely Hill Country setting, you'll find what you expected. If you go expecting good wine and tasting format, you'll likely leave as we did; unimpressed. Adding together the scores, we come up with just shy of 3.0. This scenery here is better than the wine and we don't go to wineries to drink the scenery. BOTTOM LINE: This is clearly a place popular with tour buses out to see the Texas Wine country and folks looking for a scenic outlook for photo ops for weddings or other events, given the lovely terrain and the wow-ish tasting room. But if you're short on time to take in Texas wineries and want to really experience how terroir translates to bottle in Texas wine making, from our experience this is a winery you can skip. TASTING SET UP: The tasting room is impressive for size and tasting bar. It also has for sale many lavender items from the associated lavender farm. The hitch in this arrangement is that one doesn't necessarily want fragrance competing for olafactory attention when wine tasting good wine. Fortunately, this is not so much good wine. The tasting format is $10 and you get to choose a certain number of tastes from their extensive menu of wines. The tasting fee is not refunded with purchase. But for that fee you receive the uber large glass you used for tasting which has the Becker logo engraved on it. (Very 1980's.) From our view, keep the glass, provide the refund with purchase. Or reduce the tasting fee and keep the glass. The tasting room staff is friendly so thumbs up for that. But this is clearly a production numbers set up for tasting. This is not a tasting room like Texas Hills Vineyard, as just one example, where the folks pouring the wines can talk about the decisions that went into how they were made. THE WINES: Of the ones we tasted, we thought the Moscato and one of their flagship red wines (Raven) were the most drinkable. But the latter was $40 a bottle and for quality was, in our view, over priced by a good deal If you want to buy a bottle of wine you can cork it and sit outdoors to enjoy the lovely setting. But remember, you will not get your tasting fee back to purchase that bottle...and no matter how hard the two guys tasting next to us tried to make that happen for them, they couldn't.. Their comment was the wine was not worth adding on their $20 tasting fee ($10 x 2) to purchase a bottle. We said we agreed. But we are in the minority opinion for that, it seems, given the Disneyland of the Texas Hills Wine Country popularity of this place. WINE LABELING NOTES: Our understanding is that due to the size of this endeavor, only some of their wines are bottled from Texas grown grapes and several use juice sourced from other states. Like California. (Everyone who thinks California is exporting their best grape products to Texas bottlers, raise your hand. ) The troubling thing about this is that wine making is at root all about terroir, where the grapes are grown, and then how the juice is handled. If one wants to drink wine from California grapes, one will find far better bottlings in California. Look for the "To be sold only in Texas" print on the back of bottle of Texas wine as indicator that the wine was not made from at least 75% Texas grown grapes. Then ask yourselves why you are buying that bottle. Now that you know better. ACCESSIBILITY NOTE: Becker is one of the biggest wine ventures in Texas, with deep pocket owners. In spite of this, during an extensive remodel of the tasting building just a few years ago, they failed to make the relatively minimal investment necessary to follow Federal access standards, now in their 22nd year, to create an entry that provides equal access to people with mobility problems. The Beckers may as well set out a sign that says "Some people are not welcome here." A heads up for those people who may use crutches or wheelchairs (or push strollers for that matter), the step up into the front doors and the layout of the entry is dicey. read more

After getting turned off by the long wait and restrictive membership policies at Grape Creek, we opted to take our chances at Becker. We walked in and were greeted by the hostess offering either a $20 tasting or bottles. (I feel buying a full bottle is the better option for couples vs spending double for 2 tastings.) We made perfect timing and also caught the free tour! We enjoyed our Tempernillo while the general manager walked us through the facilities, and gave us insight on their wine making process. While getting lost on 2-lane Texas back roads, we came across Becker Vineyards on Yelp tucked out behind the long, long strip of roadside vineyards as you drive through the hill country. I'm SO GLAD I listened to Yelp and stopped here. We parked in the insanely crowded parking lot and walked up to the BEAUTIFUL grounds in awe. We found the tasting room and got settled with 2 wine glasses and a 6 glass tasting of our choice ahead of us for only $20 each. The employees were so knowledgeable and really lived their jobs and wine (duh)! We almost joined the wine club too, but living in Florida and not knowing the next time we'd come to Austin, it just didn't work for us but let me tell you... it's a good deal! We ended up buying 6 bottles before we left and will be joining the wine club once those are finished. I came to Becker's for wine tasting on a recent trip to Fredericksburg and thought this winery was average. To me wine tasting is supposed to be fun and relaxing. Becker's experience wasn't exactly the case. The price is fine, $12 for 6 wine of your choice and you get a free wine glass. My tasting lady was very friendly and knowledgeable. I really enjoyed her. She offered a complimentary tasting to get us started and I did 4 white and 2 red. For the 7 wines I tasted, I only liked maybe one or two. The biggest problem is I felt rushed for the whole experience b/c this place was packed. Note I came on a Friday so it wasn't actually their busiest. And i heard the weekend tasting was even worse with a lot more ppl. See, that's something I hate. I'm at a winery trying to have a great time, not a HEB or Costco getting free samples. Also the pour was very stingy! I have been to different wine tastings before and I always got at least half a glass if not one third of a glass for one pour. Becker's tasting pour was literally one sip, no joke. Good thing is that I didn't get tipsy b/c I gotta drive somewhere else afterwards. And I always get tipsy at wine tastings b/c I'm light weight. The ambience wasn't bad. They have a nice outdoor area to sit and lavender fields to look at on the property. Overall, I thought it was an OK experience. Would I come again? Probably not! read more

This winery is one of my favorites in the area. There is a large variety of wines to choose from when you pay for your $20 wine tasting (you pick 6 of your choice). The views are great and the staff are friendly. We always enjoy the live music as it adds perfectly to the ambiance of the winery. Wow! Our family, consisting of 11 adults and 2 kiddos arrived at Becker Vineyards about 30 minutes before they closed. Our late arrival was not intentional as we were not aware of the closing time. The staff members that greeted us were incredibly welcoming and courteous but reminded us that they would be closing soon. Nonetheless, they welcomed us and informed us that we could order wine and enjoy it in the outdoor patio. They weather was a little cool but they had tall propane heaters and a fireplace going that made the outdoor seating very comfortable. The ambiance was really nice. We ordered a couple of wonderful bottles of wine; one Beckers Malbec Reserve and a Rosé - both were delicious and reasonably priced. We were provided with actual "glass" wine glasses and not plastic as other wineries may have done. The kiddos enjoyed playing on the grassy area adjacent to where we were sitting. At no time did we feel pressured to leave even though technically they were closed. They allowed us to casually enjoy the wine and their beautiful winery. We plan to return in the near future and plan to take out of town guests when they come for the holidays. I highly recommend Becker winery and Becker wine! read more

Of the handful of Vineyards we've been to in Fredericksburg, this one is by far my favorite! The tasting is $25 for six wines - crazy enough we liked all six that we tried (the 2017 Saigné is heaven)! The lavender products that they have are amazing, great for Christmas stocking stuffers. I have been a visitor for a few years now, but finally became a member not too long ago and have not yet regretted it. I am a huge fan of their red wines, but I would say their white wine is for any red wine lover. They have been communicative and helpful during COVID and have taken every precaution to keep their staff and customers safe while also still offering us service. The staff is always so pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable about not only the wine, but the vineyard itself and the surrounding area. For $20 you can get a 6 wine tasting. The atmosphere is very different between peak and non-peak hours; weekends are going to be packed and you need to be prepared for that. The wines they serve for the tasting are different from the ones sold in grocery and liquor stores. You get a much more personal experience at Becker. They have a fridge full of meats and cheeses for purchase so you can make your own charcuterie board while sipping a full glass of wine on the patio. Becker advertises as not kid friendly but it appears they are dog friendly. Great service, excellent wine, and a beautiful view. We came for a tasting and there were nine of us. The guy doing the tasting was not very helpful or talkative. He barely told us what we were trying or anything else about it. It felt like a bartender waiting to pour your next glass. It gets busy on Saturdays but we were lucky to grab a sofa and sit and relax while drinking some wine. They have a food truck that serves the best potato salad and sliders! The tasting room was pretty packed when we were leaving. They have lots of merchandise to purchase as well as cheese and crackers. We really enjoyed our time here and just sitting on the porch.
