Where else in Dallas can you get a $30 steak from a drive-thru? Or an $8 burger, so it's not all high-end, but rather a perfect mix. Becks is an unusual but workable mix: it is counter-service casual, but a menu like a Houston's or a Texas Land & Cattle. Burgers and fries abound, but there's also an Ahi Tuna and 8oz Filet dinner in the $25-$30 range. To further blend the sit-down and fast casual motif, Becks also has full wine bottles and beer. I had the Ahi Tuna sandwich and loved it. However, if you try it, ask for the wasabi mayo on the side, because I thought it was slathered a bit heavy and over-powered the mild tuna after a few bites. The tuna was absolutely sushi grade, and grilled ever-so-slightly that the insides were still completely ruby red and barely warm, with only a millimeter or two of salty grill marks around the outside (ie, if you don't eat sushi, don't get this sammy). This particular place is in a great location. It is easily accessibly and plenty of room and tables inside. The service is speedy and they seem very friendly and helpful. They always walk around cleaning and picking up after customers which helps keep the place very clean and presentable, even after a big lunch rush. The burgers are ok but very expensive. I ordered a hot plate, the Robert Chicken and Veggies, which consisted of a small side chicken breast and grilled vegetables and it was $15, after a drink. Beck's Prime is one of my go-to spots for carryout. I have never eaten inside or even been inside (they have a drive-through) so can not comment on that. The service is always amazing, the food ready timely and our orders have always been correct. I recently placed on online order and did not realize it was scheduled for pickup the next day. I arrived right before they closed and, although the error was mine, they made our dinner and gave me a free drink while I waited. As for the food, I have had a chance to sample quite a bit on the menu including the ribeye, the burger, the chicken sandwich, the chili, the chicken potato thingy, the prime rib sandwich, the french fries and just about each flavor of milkshake. All have really been phenomenal with the exception of the french fries, which were a little soggy but I kind of blame myself for ordering french fries to go. read more

Becks Prime was next up on my quest to try all the high end burger joints in Dallas. The name was the subject of some discussion - shouldn't it be Beck's Prime if the the owner is named Beck? Or Becks' Prime if the owner is named Becks? All the signage said "Becks" so who knows. Maybe the word "Becks" isn't a name at all but has some obscure meaning related to beef or cows or something. We tried the one on Forest Lane on a Friday evening. The restaurant itself was very nicely designed and had a lot more open space than most burger joints. There was plenty of free parking available. It has a nice outdoor seating area, which we took advantage of. Thankfully, this place is not like Liberty Burger where you are assigned a seat - Becks follows the more traditional burger joint concept of giving the patron the liberty sit anywhere they want. After ordering at the counter, we received our drinks and an order pager. It only took a few minutes before out order showed up and everything was correct. I ordered my usual, a cheese burger with mustard and all the usual toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions). Like most high-end burger places, it's pricey. We paid $27.50 for two burgers, one small side of fries, and two drinks. The burgers were certainly acceptable. Judged only on the contents, they were probably four star burgers but they were encased in plain, tasteless, bleached white bread buns of the short you can get by the truckload at Walmart. They really need to find some better buns if they want to compete with the other top burger joints in Dallas. The meat seemed to be high quality and there was a lot of it. One minor complaint: Becks makes their burgers upside down, with the toppings on the bottom and the meat on top. This means the toppings are compressed by the hot meat, resulting in soggy, wilted lettuce. Making burgers upside down seems to be the latest annoying restaurant trend. Your best bet is to ask for your burger to be made right side up when you order. Failing that, emergency burger triage will be necessary immediately upon arrival of your order. Disassemble your burger, re-assembling it the correct way with the toppings on top (that's why they call them "toppings" Mr. burger chef!) If you fix it up quickly enough, you should be able to save the lettuce. The fries were pretty average. They were medium sized, fresh cut, and very well done. I don't know if all fries at Becks are that well done or if it was luck of the draw. They had a little salt but no other seasoning. When I get really good fries, I can snarf down a big order all by myself. We had one small order between us and left most of them uneaten. Our drinks were standard fountain machine Cokes. No complaints there, they were big enough and had the correct syrup mixture to taste like real Cokes. Overall, it was an acceptable but not outstanding experience. I always thought this was a BBQ place. I thought their burgers were very good and for a fair price. We got the cheeseburger ($7.50), Bubba burger ($8.50), and regular fries ($2.75 I believe). They burgers were just the right amount of juicy for me. Some places (like Hopdoddy) make it a little too greasy for me personally but Becks got it right. The fries were enough for both of us to share. I can't imagine eating the whole thing alone. The workers were all so friendly and helpful as well. The place itself is a good size. This used to be a Jack in the Box. I don't know if it's a new building but it's the size of a fast food place but much nicer design. I would recommend this place. read more

Came here since I was out and about and I love when non-fast food places have drive-thrus. :) I ordered the Alpine Chicken . My guy got a double cheeseburger and fries . I craved a shake, so a peach one sounded refreshing . Everything was made to order . The wait wasn't very long . Honestly , the chicken sandwich was good, but didn't blow me away . My Guy's burger was good . The fries needed more salt or something , but they were freshly cut . The shake was decent , but maybe could have been a bit more sweet . This is pretty average and average doesn't cut it when we have so many fantastic burger options in Dallas. The service is fast and you get the food relatively quick, but the food is just mediocre. I had a bacon cheeseburger and my friend had the Bill's burger. We both concluded that the burgers were a little on the bland side. On the upside, its a decent sized burger. On the downside, its rather expensive for what it is. My fries were flimsy and needed more ketchup than usual. Sweet potato fries were ok. They need to fix the ratio of syrup to carbonated water, my orange sunkist tasted bland in keeping with the theme. I wanted to give it 3 stars, because its not really an awful place, but due to the price point (almost $15 for burger, fries, soda), I don't think the results match it. This is more of a 3-star restaurant in the realm of ALL restaurants in existence, but for what it is (a sort of upscale fast-food burger place), it's a solid 4 stars. First of all, you have a drive-through option...and I don't know of any other upscale burger joints that offer that, much less ANY other restaurant where you can order a steak at a drive-through window. (Yes, as weird as that sounds. I haven't tried it. You probably wouldn't go here for a steak, but who knows, maybe they're fantastic.) The smell of their kitchen exhaust is what got me in here in the first place. It smells AMAZING. The food lives up to the smells, haha. My husband loves the Bill's Burger (with bacon, jalapenos, sauteed onions, and cheddar). I don't think he would call it the best burger of his life, but it certainly satisfies. I've had bites of his burgers here but have only ordered their salads myself, simply because I wasn't in the mood for a burger (sadly). Their salads are great! The Queen of Hearts (with hearts of palm and artichoke hearts, among other things) and the Kirby salad (with spiced pecans, dried cranberries, and blue cheese, among other things) and the Mediterranean salad all are excellent salad options, especially if you add chicken (with that delicious smoky flavor, mmm) or seared tuna (also mmm). I'm also a big fan of their fries, which usually have a good sampling of skin-on slices, my favorite. Like the rest of their food, the fries taste really fresh. Service has always been very friendly, and during Christmas they even had a real (live) tree up with ornaments and everything. It was really nice and homey. Yeah, they don't check your drinks as much as at a regular sit-down restaurant, but come on...this is not REALLY a full-service restaurant. You wouldn't complain about not being offered refills at any other order-at-the-counter restaurant. I see it as a really nice gesture that they come around once or twice at all. All told, this is a great, casual place that suits when you're looking for a fairly quick, affordable meal but want something a little step up from fast food. Called in a kids cheese burger with a few extras on it and a large sweet tea. Quoted 6-7 minutes. My printed order ticket states 4:21pm. After a run to the bank I walked into the nearly empty establishment and was not greeted until I said something. Was told it was coming out in just a second (got a phone call at 4:32pm), PAID FIFTEEN DOLLARS and left. Realizing I just bought the full sized I continued with my drive. Leaping flames in the kitchen gave me high hopes of a backyard-charb burger experience at Becks Prime--but those hopes were quickly dashed. Everything else about the restaurant was underwhelming--from the fast casual feel to the lack of creative menu options, Becks smacked of overpriced fast food burger. I'm not sure where the "prime" in the name comes from--Beck's meats are billed as choice grade Angus. Nothing on their steak menu even hints at prime grade beef. I requested a blue cheese burger medium-rare, which they said they could cook--but the end result was a slightly-pink-in-the-middle patty on a dry, gritty cardboard-tasting bun that I could have lived without. Blue cheese slices, not crumbles, were layered on along with a slather of mayo. Not bad overall, but not great--the yucky grainy sesame seed bread still haunts what otherwise would have been a decent burger. I was appreciative of their crispy sweet potato fries, but could have been bettered with a liberal sprinkling of seasoning. The price-point of these burgers is inconsistent with the high-end competition. I didn't feel Becks was operating in the same league as the big Dallas players, like Hopdoddy's or Maple & Motor. I'm likely to lump them in the company of Carl's Jr or Fuddruckers. I suppose if they'd focus on their burger menu, instead of trying to please everybody (sandwiches, steaks and salads also feature heavily on their menu), Becks could rival some of the best. My boyfriend and I have been here on several occasions but the trip today prompted me to leave a review. $36.26 for a salad with chicken, a chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The chicken (both meals) was delicious and so were the sweet potato fries. For my caesar salad I asked for dressing on the side and they left that out completely. Our sweet potato fries cost $7.50?!? That's insane!! Overall the food is great, but if you charge $14.25 for a caesar salad with no caesar than I am out. And I still can't get over an order of fries costing as much as a meal. read more

Been coming here for about 5 years. Everyone has been awesome and food has been great until today. 3:20pm- Idiot with Grey hair could not understand my order. I was a walk in- I ordered a tenderloin with Jalapeños on it. He had me repeat myself 4 times because he wanted me to say Jalpeno with a Mexican or American accent. I am from South Africa so I say it slightly differently. I don't care where you are from- when someone says Jalapeño with an accent it's very clear what they want. It is really hard not to know what you are a saying. I sensed that he was being funny and wanted me to repeat myself until he heard that correct pronunciation. Becks Prime cheeseburger has become my favorite in town. The local craft beer on tap may be a small selection but they have always had some really good ones to pick from, including Deep Ellum IPA (at a great price by the way). We weren't especially impressed with the Kitchen Sink dish or the chicken sandwich. But for a quality burger and great draft beer, this place hits a home run. Sweet potato fries are a local favorite. I used to live in Houston where we had Beck's prime everywhere and thankful to have one in Dallas! Their food is made from scratch and is the freshest burger and grilled chicken I've had. They do amazing smoked chicken flavor. I love the cheeseburger loaded with grilled mushrooms and onions. This is also the place that made me a believer in sweet potato fries, they are amazing! Drive thru time isn't the fastest but that's because everything is made to order and fresh - worth the wait! read more

I love this restaurant. I usually need to go 2 to 4 times a month. To me it is a Tweener. It is better than fast food, but not fancy as an expensive restaurant.The service is fast, friendly, and it is always easy to get in and have a table. There are always people there, but it is never too packed to be annoying. One of my favorite things to get there is the Ahi tuna sandwich which is basically like a hamburger type sandwich but with a slab of tuna on it. It is delicious! Sometimes I hate to leave a negative review but since last night's meal, this restaurant is good for only burgers and recommend staying away from the steaks. Despite three separate meals at two separate locations, its apparent to me that the meats are not of good quality and regretfully the cooks there can't seem to figure out rare. Even after needling the cashier and insisting she'll make certain, my steak came to me medium. Normally, I would send back a $30 overcooked peespoor cut but I was just too tired to deal with it. My salad app was forgotten too .. They were more focused on getting out than getting it right. So that said, the people are super friendly hence the extra star here but as stated above, stay clear of the higher priced items and stick with the burgers. But good luck getting one of them rare if you like them that way. They can't get that either.. read more

A little piece of HOME now conveniently located in North Dallas! I ate lunch there today, starting my vacation going home to Houston (which starts at 345pm today) a little early. I grew up eating at Becks Prime. I grew up ordering the Volcano. I was eating bunless burgers, before it was cool. My co-worker and my "stranger-friend" (cause we are both so busy we never get to see each other any more) enjoyed our Burger, Kitchen Sink & Volcano. Medium Rare wonderfully flavored 1/2 pound burger patty piled high with shredded cheese, tomatoes & onions. Yummy french fries, that probably tasted better because I had been doing low-carb for 6 weeks and these were my first french fries in as long. And don't forget the Sugar Free Lemonade... just enough pulp so you know it's homemade and the perfect sweet & tart mixture... I will be sad when my refill is gone. Like opening up a fresh can of Hormel chili... Had the Beck's Prime chili for $8 the other day. Yes, $8 for maybe almost 8 ounces. This place is WAY overpriced. Save yourself the money and go buy a can of Hormel for fifty cents. Pros: Didn't charge extra for cheese and onions. Cons: Greasy, small portion of low quality chili that was barely warm. We just ate at Beck's Prime and were disappointed. All burgers are half-pound. Really? I know this is Texas, but all half-pounders? Smashburgers are tastier, with their crispy sear. Five Guys definitely has better fries. The milk shake tasted like it had thickening agents in it. Smashburger uses Haagen Dazs ice cream. The menu had a lot of variety, but I doubt we will eat at Beck's again. Too pricey for the quality. The meat was fresh, but had a Burger King smokiness to it. read more

I'm giving BP one star for having a clean place with friendly people working there. The food was abysmal in almost every fashion and form. $27 for two burgers and two small shakes (no fries) and it was all absolutely at the depths of average. I'll bet my life that the shakes were a standard Ben E. Keith mix and had the minimal flavor required by law. The burger meat tasted like one time in college when I accidentally used too much lighter fluid to start my grill and didn't let it burn off prior to cooking. I don't know if they used some kind of grill cleaner or it was rancid oil on the grates used to keep the meat from sticking, but my stomach has felt 'not good' for several hours afterward. For the most part this place lives up to the hype. I have recently had some troubles with some new establishments, but Beck's Prime, a recent arrival in DFW but with strong roots in Houston, has figured out a way to carve out success from the outset here! The highlights here consist of quality meat, competent grilling and stellar customer service. The outstanding charred flavor on the patty and the juiciness of the meat make for a really positive dining experience. Although the chili is a bit runny, I recommend the flavors to complement the beef and cheddar nicely. Additionally, the skin-on fries are worth every penny and round out a tremendously positive meal. Although Beck's Prime is superior to the majority of burgers in this town, I can't put it at the top. There is an intangible missing, an edge perhaps. Nevertheless, it could easily maintain a position in a discussion about the best five in town. So why 4 stars? Price! A meal will run you in the ballpark of $15. That exceed it's competitors. So maybe Beck's is like Tony Romo--- really good, highly paid, but it must prove itself a bit more to DFW before it can be considered a champion. read more

Yum. Hold on, I will write this review, I promise. Yum, yum, yum! Ok, now, let me get star... YUM! Every time I start to remember my first meal here, my mouth waters, my stomach grumbles and my nose remembers the great grilled meat aroma wafting through the air... I need to get a hold of myself so I can tell you what a great place this is for quality food and satisfying service. They're just down the street from me a ways and I know I'll be back to sample the rest of their menu. On this visit, I had the TKO Burger and it definitely was a Tasty Knock-Out! With chili, it's a memorable mess of goodness. The chocolate malt was made with soft-serve ice cream, not hand-scooped, but, they put a good heaping helping of malted powder or whatever and it tasted okay. I will agree with David T. who described it as tasting as if it had thickening agents in it. I did not finish the shake. And I never leave Smashburger's shakes unfinished. Nice dining room ambiance, kept well-cleaned, line moved quickly, food was ready promptly, expansive menu with lots of choices ranging in price. It's not your typical fast food joint. And the clientele seem to justify the restaurant's location. You can spend as much here as you do a fancy steakhouse with wait service. But, I wager the food will be just as good and you won't have to shell out a lot in tips. So, there's that. Now, what am I going to do? I originally saw Beck's Prime in Houston and finally tried it yesterday. It was good, but based on the price, I just didn't think it was a great value. I got three Bill's burger, sweet potato fries and a medium drink. Total price. Just over $16 The fries were very good and tasted fresh cut (some places use pressed sweet potatos into the fry shape) the burger was good. The beef had great berry grilled flavor. Their "prime sauce" was okay. So I got a good meal. But $16 foot a burger, fries and drink? Their was nothing truly outstanding about this that gave me a feeling I got my moneys worth. I have gotten more exciting burgers at twisted root, Jakes, and Snuffers, all for less money. My recommendation: You will get a good meal here. But to get a better value for what you spend, go someplace else. read more

I'm an avid burger fan and I'm always eager to try new places, especially "upscale" burger joints. Ordered a double meat burger medium well with bacon and sauerkraut along with sweet potato fries. Whilst ordering I saw two things that lowered my expectations: the dreaded Sysco label and the use of a microwave. For a place that claims to offer fresh ingredients, these two things should not be present. The size of the burger was rather impressive. The meat was juicy but the mouth feel of the patty was off, it was too loose. The taste was off as well, it had that flame broiled taste you find at Burger King. Even though I ordered medium well, there was no char on the patty. The bacon was meh and the sauerkraut was awful. The sweet potato fries tasted like they came from a freezer; which they supposedly do not use. Overall I was not impressed. Off Site Kitchen still reigns supreme in my book! read more

The girl at the counter was not friendly and questioned everything I ordered. Also for a kids burger and an adult burger it ended up being $30? I get over 20 from most places but $30? The rest of the staff was lovely though, I will give them that. We get our food and it's freezing cold. I got sautéed mushrooms on mine and they were pretty bad. We asked for ketchup and it took the girl 5 minutes to get it. So our food was even colder then before. Really not that impressed in the quality of everything. If it improves id be a big fan! It's worth it because they're kind of pricey and you can judge if you like it without spending a bunch of money! I ordered the hickory burger, which comes with bun, hickory sauce and American cheese. I prefer onions on a hickory burger, but unless you ask it doesn't come with them. They cooked it perfectly medium with a slight run of pink through the middle. Husband ordered the cheeseburger medium-rare, but it came out more of a medium. Still we both enjoyed them - I couldn't finish the last bite of mine - they're really big with a nice open grill flavor The fries were OK, but nothing special and I didn't eat them all (mainly because of the huge burger). A fellow came by and refilled our drinks which surprised me since it was an order at the counter kind of thing. Nice touch.
