Honestly I was kind of so-so on them from my last visit a few years ago, so I was not particularly interested in trying this location, but I was wrong. Walking in it was warm and cozy inside, which felt really nice on a cold and rainy evening. The decor is simple, but tasteful. We were greeted warmly when we walked in and helped with the menu. Had not been to Haystack in a while...found a gift card so decided to use it. Feel like it has gone down compared to recent visits. The manager ( I think) was very friendly taking my order and delivering it to me. However after that he never approached my table to find out how everything was....and no one removed dirty dishes. When I left, all the plates and napkins were still there. Also...Haystack has ALWAYS been reliable as far as cooking my burger medium-rare. My burger today was closer ro medium....almost medium well. However I don't recommend this restaurant as they charge a 3% Credit Card fee and don't even tell you. Their prices and margins are high enough, so no need for a cc fee that they hide. We visited this location on Friday night and were fairly disappointed with our experience. The food is good and was fine, but the restaurant was generally dirty and loud. Trying to find a clean table to sit at for two people proved difficult and otherwise kids kept running in and out of the doors and parents were generally too drunk to notice or care. read more

We had a great experience. Shoutout to Numan at the front. He was so caring and attentive, I thought he was the manager. He definitely deserves a raise for how well he treated us! The food was amazing. Everyone loved the burgers - they were just perfect. The garlic Parmesan fries were great, but the fried pickles were even better. Haystack is arguably the best place to eat in Hillcrest Village especially when the weather's beautiful, you can sit outside, and your kids can play all around freely and safely. It might be the best factor Haystack has going for itself. Since it's not a greet-and-sit restaurant where you have a waiter, there isn't much to say about the service. People take your orders. You pay them. Food is brought to your table. That sums up the service, and it can be hit or miss. Maybe they'll bring you that extra plate you asked for, or maybe you'll get up and awkwardly stand at the kitchen entrance to ask for one after it became clear no one was coming back. This is the kind of place where you grab your own silverware, napkins, condiments, and drinks. So service hardly factors into Haystack's appeal. Pros on the food: the prices are fair because the portions are towering. From mountainous heaps of chips with salsa and queso, or personal fav fried pickles, to any burger or sandwich on the menu. Seriously, they're huge. We always order one kid's burger to split between my two littles and it's plenty. I'd split a burger with my wife if she wasn't traditional and I wasn't explorative. I do love seeing so many varied options of the American classic. I keep feeling an adventure is awaiting when I order. Cons on the food: for all the creative combinations to crunch on top of the patties, the flavors have never been robust or breathtaking. Something gets lost in all that innovation and I can't tell what it is. Any burger that boasts heat - that's really all it has going for it. I do like The Barn and Escabeche burgers, but somehow they're only one note. All those toppings seem like it would be a symphony of deliciousness. Same for the El Tres that I think is supposed to be named for three cheeses but there are only two? I must be wrong. Regardless, it's flavors fall flat and not even its size makes up for it. One thing definitely not going for Haystack are the bathrooms. Shamefully filthy and unkept. Management needs to bring the hammer down on that because it can ruin an appetite. But I do love coming here for the atmosphere and location. It's great for families to get together and let the kids be free as birds while parents get some adult topics in. (Who'm I kidding? The hamburgers were delicious! The french fries were good and had an amazing dipping sauce. And the haystack onion rings were divine! Its hard to find these in any restaurant and are so much better than the onion rings! The manager was prompt taking our order, pouring my craft beer and getting our food to the bar. We sat there because the chairs had a back ( spine surgeon patient). It's hard to find since there are NO SIGNS in the parking lot indicating their location. We kept driving around the parking lot until we finding saw the sign on the building. It's just north of the Ka Thai asian restaurant facing this playing field which is perfect for family outings. The burgers have always been yummy and they definitely scratch that itch, but sometimes for all of the ingredients they provide it ends up tasting more flat than it should. You absolutely can't beat this location if you have kids tho. We love taking our family here to play on the playground and to run around together! I have eaten at least 10 meals at 2 other Haystack locations, all were great! Today, my little cloud of happiness crashed to the ground. Instead of the usual fresh, juicy, hamburger patty... this was DOA. These mushrooms were sliced so thin... they were see-through! The french-fried potatos were cold & old. I arrived at 4PM, ahead of their dinner / happy hour rush, I was only customer here! It was hard to get anyone's attention, so I had to announce myself, laughing. C'mon guys, don't look annoyed. I guess this is a "Locals Only" home turf? The next customers were cheerily welcomed, started a big chatty convo, got backrubs, etc! The Hillcrest Village shopping mall has a grass play area, with modest outdoor playground, with Haystack, and other eateries surrounding. There is also a pay-to-play indoor businesss here. If you have youngsters, they can get in some kid business here! Parking pro tip: No parking next to, or near Haystack. Park in the east end lot, walk west past "Cane Russo" restaurant (red pig statue out front). Now, look for a silver/chrome metal "totem pole" art statue about 20 feet tall, Haystack is back behind this totem pole. Outdoor seating with umbrella tables. Indoor seating on hardwood seats, modern industrial metal chairs. The dozen bar seats are padded with backrests. *Power outlets under the bar counter! Twin big screens behind the beertaps. At 5PM it was 35% capacity, a few families with kids, some friends meeting at the bar, and a few solo burger fans. I hope they all enjoy their meals. read more

I just went to the Haystack on Arapaho about 45 minutes ago, and I hate being lied to all the while having a tip menu coming up at the register before I even taste anything which I am glad I didn't tip, Haystack should tip me for eating there. I usually don't leave a review, but retiring from the Food Service Business after 30 years, I feel I have the education to know what's going on as far as food goes......and this was not right! It was slow , and I was looking at trying a "Haystack " burger. I ask the cashier nice polite young lady that I can't decide on medium or medium rare, I don't like my hamburger over cooked, she said medium was pink inside and not overcooked so I said ok medium sounds fine I will try that. Don't get me wrong I know hamburger meat is cooked but every hamburger place can cook differently. Here is the problem, she doesn't have any idea what's she is talking about when it comes to cooking meat or it's your grill cooks not knowing how to cook hamburger meat......it's probably a combination of both and I stressed I didn't want it overcooked ......and the fries I ordered were lukewarm at best , and I had to pay 19.00 for all the not so wonderful cuisine. I will not be ordering from this restaurant again, it wasn't a pleasant food experience. And back to the Tip thing....get it out of your guest face before they even taste the food and walk away from the register......it doesn't bother me to put " No " Tip. All thru the years I taught my waitstaff that Tips are for service above and beyond an everyday experience. Same great Haystack burgers but at a new location! We've gone to the Haystack's at Belt Line & Coit for many, many years. It's a pretty small location and parking is hard to come by there but still has the great food we love! This location is on the west side of the green space at Arapaho and Hillcrest. Ample parking (at least for now - all storefront spaces are not filled up yet). We were greeted by Drew, he was very friendly and helpful! We were on our way home from the airport and were tired and wanted to take our food home to eat it. We ordered our usual Down on The Farm burger, homemade sweet potato chips and today tried a cookies and cream milkshake. The milkshakes looked huge and Drew asked if we wanted it split into 2 cups! $40 for a hamburger onion rings and a salad with two drinks. Who are you kidding? Average quality burger with shredded onion rings that you need a fork to eat. Serve by kids with very little training and no social skills. There are several good restaurants in this complex. Avoid this one. One stars for location only. I find it really annoying when you pay for something and they leave it out. It reflects on the reputation and management of the organization. While they were busy increasing their prices, they were unable to fill the to go order correctly. By the time I got home, it was too late to return. A few weeks after opening, this Haystack seems to be still be ironing out the kinks. We came in on a Wednesday evening and there wasn't a line or big crowd. Nonetheless we waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive. For this type of modified fast-food (order yourself at the register) concept, a 30+ minute wait is totally unacceptable. Compounding the issue is that the fries were probably put aside well before the burger so they were completely cold and inedible by the time the plate arrived. Unfortunately so were the haystack onions. They were cooperative in replacing the fries but it's worth pointing out that the entire staff seemed frazzled and overwhelmed -- perhaps by the volume of take-out orders. I ordered the Haystack Burger which is a bacon cheeseburger with haystack onions and BBQ sauce. The burgers at Haystack are very good. They were all high quality meat, cooked medium and were very pink in the middle. While I appreciate this, I point this out because a lot of people expect their burgers to be cooked medium-well at these types of burger joints. The sandwich itself was decent but the bacon on the burger leaves a lot to be desired as it is soggy and fatty. This was the second time I was disappointed with the bacon at Haystack (different locations). At about $10/burger (without fries), I would say that I expect more value than what I received. This location is on the small side with probably only about 8 tables (seating up to 6) so if they get busy, you could be waiting a long, long time for your burger fix. For now, there's not a lot of other burger options close by other than the fast food places so I expect Haystack will do well here. Hopefully, they can fix the things that need fixing and prosper. read more

Awful establishment. We sat down and was waiting for a family member to arrive so we can all order together. This was not allowed. It was brunch time and nobody was sitting at any tables. We were informed to go stand in-line and order before we can sit down. One of the rude managers said this rule also included my 87 year old grandmother who can't even stand and walk without being assisted. I was completely outraged, we got up and walked next door to a lovely Mexican restaurant. I worked here for 4 months and when the store owner named Kevin showed up he made me clean the whole restaurant by myself. The second day he tried to make me clean all the chair legs which I had already did that to the stools the day before and it was never in my job description to do that. Ist time dining there and we were very disappointed! The Mgr. "John" was rude as he took our order. He was quite sarcastic as I asked questions about the menu and mentioned it was our 1st time there. He rushed us then got our order wrong! When they brought the food out we saw it was not what I ordered. They took it back; they took a long time to replace it. He brought it back after my hubby was done eating his food.......the order was still wrong! The Mgr. "John" had a bad attitude when he was the one who entered the order wrong (per the receipt) in the first place. He had the nerve to be rude. My hubby liked his meal but did not like the service.
