This is for those people who like a small diner, with a hands-on touch. I was in the mood for a great traditional breakfast, and that's what I got. I followed my instincts and ordered the homemade corned beef hash, with one scrambled egg and hash browns, and was very pleased with everything (except the bottled grapefruit juice, which was mostly corn syrup). As you can see from the photo, the chef had a generous hand! The service was friendly. A lot of workers came in to order breakfast sandwiches. I think there were nine small tables in the whole place. Parking was easy, but pulling out from the parking area to go home can't be done in a rush, as it's on the corner of Ledge Rd. and Noroton Ave. It was morning rush hour. read more

The owner is always incredibly nice and remembers us each time we come in. The food is amazing--we come from Cali originally so it's hard to find food comparable to the great food in Cali/NY. But this diner matches that quality and service. Everything's always clean. It's a small place but that doesn't matter when the food is great, the service is quick, and the atmosphere is lovely. Had a GREAT breakfast this morning at Jake's Place. Unpretentious spot with simple menu and limited seating (7 tables for two and 6 stools at counter), but really good food and superb service. Steady line of takeout orders and the owner knew all customers by name. Highly recommend their egg sandwiches, which can be customized (on bagel, croissant (freshly baked), or English Muffin) with many options. We stopped by this place for breakfast on the way to Cape Cod. It was a perfect meal - seriously incredible pancakes (get the maple syrup for extra!), crispy home fries, tasty omelette with buttery toast. We loved the pancakes so much that we ordered a second round but with blueberries. read more

Delicious lunch with your favorite local diner fare. Staff was lovely and they were getting ready to close for the afternoon and seated us and made a delicious meal. Clean and cute - reminds me of a childhood diner I used to go to. Small tables and a counter. We met Jake. He is lovely and very social and sat and chat with us a bit. Would come back. Was looking for a place for a delicious and convenient breakfast on the way home and found it at Jake's Place. Jake's is right off of I 95 - it literally took us 30 seconds to get back on the highway. The breakfast menu is basic but all the staples are there. The french toast was great and the mushroom cheddar omelet was loaded with mushrooms. Very attentive and pleasant service. Prices are reasonable. The food always comes out so fast. I don't know how they do it, but they never burn or undercook the meals, and they add the perfect amount of everything in each and every food. The employees are so nice, and aren't afraid to have a conversation with you. Just a tip: if you go from 11-11:30, you can get both breakfast and lunch in the same meal. Came here for the first time today after driving past many times. It was lovely and we were greeted like long lost friends with impeccable service. The place was small and busy but the staff were on it and treated us well. The owner stopped and chatted with us which was nice. We were on the Merritt Pkway after 2 PM headed to RI and were starving. Checked with Siri for a local lunch place- and Jake's Place came up. It was 6 miles away, but we decided to check it out anyway. After a really beautiful detour through Darien's neighborhood of ginormous homes and mansions, we came upon Jake's diner. It even looked closed, but a few truck drivers nearby assured us it was open. It's a Cute little locals' hole in the wall- that did not disappoint!! I got the Catalina chicken sandwich- OMG it was awesome, with avocado, chicken, tomato and bacon, on a whole grain delicious bread- and Jake's special sauce- it was to die for! My husband loved his homemade meatball sub sandwich- Jake enlightened us that it's called a wedge in CT! Who knew?? Kinda like our frappes in RI are called cabinets! After reading the reviews, we decided to come here for breakfast before continuing on to NH. Jake's Place is small and narrow with tables that sit in a line from one end of the diner to the other. The counter at the front of the diner that has additional seating. There are two clear plastic display cases nearby with bagel selections. Daughter ordered the 2 eggs (over hard) with sausage and toast breakfast special. The owner/server substituted coffee with milk for her and she had orange juice as well. She said that the eggs were cooked nicely and the sausage was just as good. Hubs ordered pastrami on roll and thought it was good as well. He also thought the coffee was good. Finally, I had blueberry pancakes and thought it was delicious. They were nice and crispy. Although they didn't look it, they were fluffy in texture. Service was quick and friendly. We are new to Darien, Ct, and luckily found Jake's Place and had a delicious lunch today, We were greeted in a welcoming and friendly manner by Jake who chatted with us and our grandson. The service was attentive and the food came out quickly. I had a sandwich special, my husband a chicken wrap and our grandson the kids hot dog meal. All were excellent! We were visiting the area from Texas and stopped in for breakfast. Really glad we did. First, the food was great. We had a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich, a blueberry pancake, the special (eggs, toast, bacon, potatoes, juice), and French toast. Everything was great. But probably the best part was that the owner came over and visited with us for quite awhile. We talked about the area and he even recommended a nice drive with some really great houses to see. I would give this place zero stars if I could. THE FOOD SUCKS! It was my first time here, and maybe this place was good at some point in the past, but I don't know. However, if it was, things have definitely changed for the worse. I ordered the 3 cheese Philly Cheesesteak and it was disgusting. The roast beef was pre-cooked (and looked nasty), only had 1 kind of cheese put on top (not 3), and immediately heated up in the microwave... what a disappointment... complete with boiling hot and cold portions of cheese that were unevenly heated up by chef Mic(rowave)! Maybe they meant that 3 cheese meant 3 tiny triangle slices of the same kind of cheese, so there is a gray area there as to weather this is false advertising or not. I will say one positive thing about the sandwich, the cheap ass, tiny role that was used was actually toasted. I guess they don't totally screw you over at Jake's Place, just 95% of the way. Might I add that this pathetic excuse for a sandwich was not only tiny, but it also costed almost $14! I've consumed many Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches in my life, and this price is amongst the most I ever paid for one. For this price, I expect something good. Furthermore, it was loaded with jalapeño's from a can (probably to camouflage the crappy, pre cooked, microwaved roast beef and unevenly microwaved cheese that was used). While in the "diner", I noticed that they had a glass refrigerated case with bacon, and other foods being stored there. I noticed a whole pile of bacon... all PRE-COOKED, just the way that they sell it at Restaurant Depot! I guess we now know why everything is precooked here, with their crappy, store bought pre-made, cheap as heck ingredients. Does this place actually cook anything at all? Or do they just "heat up" stuff in the microwave? I know they use a microwave because they have it located just behind the cash register on a shelf and I saw all the food going in and out of it, including mine! I bet the only thing that actually gets cooked there are eggs, but I wouldn't know because this is the only diner on the planet that stops serving breakfast late morning! Someone should clue in Jake that diner's are specifically known to serve breakfast 24hours a day. That's why they are called diner's and not fast-food restaurants, but I digress. Avoid this place and save yourself some money because you can get better food from the gas station around the corner... they also have a microwave but the food you heat up there is more fresh. read more

Where to start.... A diner that does not serve breakfast past 11:30am. No soup on Saturdays, "we don't heat it up because it doesn't sell on Saturdays. More like the microwave is busy heating up the rest of the food they serve. Nothing about the food was fresh. Pre- cooked bacon was sitting in grease in a case... waiting to be heated in the microwave. Besides horrible food, one of the servers sprayed whipped cream in her hand and licked the large blob from her hand. Terrible I have no idea how they got 4 and half star ,I ordered 2 grilled chicken it was hard and we ordered chicken fingers it was ok . Chicken has skin on Breast they didn't remove it it was hard , second grilled chicken was over cooked , burnt .thank god I ordered side order French fries otherwise I left place empty stomach .i will never go back . I love this place for breakfast--their breakfast special--two eggs, bacon, home fries, toast and coffee for $6.75. Can not beat it. Fresh, piping hot and delish. Counter staff is friendly, but most importantly, efficient. They move quickly and know their stuff. This seems to be the go to place for local contractors (always a good sigh--usually indicates good, fresh and reasonably priced food). So much so that this place is closed on Sunday instead of Monday--indicating that the bulk of their business must come during the week. read more
